Does substing a directory affects the performance creating/reading/updating many small files in the substed volume? (will use svn there) If yes, how serious is the "penalty"?

I have a terminal server environment exclusively with Windows Server 2008.
My problem is that I need to "map" a drive letter to each users Temp folder. This is due to a legacy app that requries a separate Temp folder for each user but which does not understand %temp%.
So, just add "subst t: %temp%"…

Folders created with SUBST cmd not working on IIS 6. In IIS 7(with windows 7) the virtual drive is not listing when browsed inorder to set physical path for virtual directory.
