It appears that Lucid Lynx comes with PHP 5.3. Is there a convenient way to downgrade to the latest 5.2x release?

Whats common among Skype, Opera, OpenOffice in Ubuntu ? Whenever I open these applications I get logged off and shows back me the login screen. This started happening since the 10.10 upgrade.

I have been trying to resolve my issue of spiking cpu caused by php-fpm processes. I've reduced the php-fpm config settings to:

pm.max_children = 12
