I'm particularly interested in drawing primitives performance (CAD, GIS, etc.) but any speed comparison with GDI/GDI+ would be very interesting.

I am using gdi+ for image format checking.
It is really surprising that gdi+

does not throw exception when a device is removed.
for example, I am checking a list of image files on a removable device.
I plug the disk off,
