What is a good topic for a research paper on modern computer architecture?

This may not be the right place for this, but I wanted to get this question in front of some of the brightest people on the internet, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I have to write a research paper on some modern aspect of computer architecture. The subject is really not very restrictive; pretty much any recent development in computer hardware will work. I want to write it over something really interesting, but I don't have a lot of good ideas.

What would make a really interesting paper?
