How to send Ctrl+Alt+F1 to window (to switch terminal remotely, not locally)?

when I press Ctrl+Alt+F{1..12}, it switches me to other virtual terminal.

When I have VNC/rdesktop client (and there it is VMWare/Virtualbox with other Linux) I want to switch virtual terminal remotely, but just pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 switches things locally.

VirtualBox/VMWare often provides special means to send Ctrl+Alt+Del, but not Ctrl+Alt+F1.

(I already know that I can log in over ssh and chvt)
