Just installed Ubuntu 12.04 - integrated speakers aren't working but headphones are

I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows Vista. There were no previous versions of Ubuntu installed.

My computer is a Sony Vaio all in one, with integrated sound card and speakers.

I can't get any sound coming from the speakers, but if I plug headphones into the jack on the side of the computer and select "headphones" under "sound" in "system settings" I can get sound through them.

I have been searching all day trying to find a fix but haven't had any luck.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
