How difficult it is for someone who has developed web-application using J2EE, Spring etc technology to develop an application for Telecommunication Integration network (IN) layer, the telecom product is to be developed using SS7 stack, JAIN API, J2EE technology. How vital is the knowledge of telecommunication sector?

Does anyone anticipate growth in telecommunication sector, what future lies for web development?
