iwconfig, iw not displaying wireless information

intel-wireless

after fresh install to 12.10, the wireless information is not shown by both iwconfig and iw. The wireless sets up successfully and able to connect

This is what i get

$ iwconfig wlan0
wlan0     IEEE 802.11abgn  ESSID:off/any  
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=14 dBm   
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

$ iw wlan0 link
Not connected.

   $ uname -a
