  • Identifying Data Model Changes Between EBS 12.1.3 and Prior EBS Releases

    - by Steven Chan
The EBS 12.1.3 Release Content Document (RCD, Note 561580.1) summarizes the latest functional and technology stack-related updates in a specific release.  The E-Business Suite Electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM) summarizes the database objects in a specific EBS release.  Those are useful references, but sometimes you need to find out which database objects have changed between one EBS release and another.  This kind of information about the differences or deltas between two releases is useful if you have customized or extended your EBS instance and plan to upgrade to EBS 12.1.3. Where can you find that information?Answering that question has just gotten a lot easier.  You can now use a new EBS Data Model Comparison Report tool:EBS Data Model Comparison Report Overview (Note 1290886.1)This new tool lists the database object definition changes between the following source and target EBS releases:EBS 11.5.10.2 and EBS 12.1.3EBS 12.0.4 and EBS 12.1.3EBS 12.1.1 and EBS 12.1.3EBS 12.1.2 and EBS 12.1.3For example, here's part of the report comparing Bill of Materials changes between 11.5.10.2 and 12.1.3:

  • New Whitepaper: Advanced Compression 11gR1 Benchmarks with EBS 12

    - by Steven Chan
In my opinion, if there's any reason to upgrade an E-Business Suite environment to the 11gR1 or 11gR2 database, it's the Advanced Compression database option.  Oracle Advanced Compression was introduced in Oracle Database 11g, and allows you to compress structured data (numbers, characters) as well as unstructured data (documents, spreadsheets, XML and other files).  It provides enhanced compression for database backups and also includes network compression for faster synchronization with standby databases. In other words, the promise of Advanced Compression is that it can make your E-Business Suite database smaller and faster.  But how well does it actually deliver on that promise?Apps 12 + Advanced Compression Benchmarks now availableThree of my colleagues, Uday Moogala, Lester Gutierrez, and Andy Tremayne, have been benchmarking Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 with Advanced Compression 11gR1.  They've just released a detailed whitepaper with their benchmarking results and recommendations. This whitepaper is available in two locations:Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 with Oracle Database 11g Advanced Compression (Note 1110648.1) (requires My Oracle Support access)Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 with Oracle Database 11g Advanced Compression (Applications Benchmark website, PDF, 500K)

  • TDE Tablespace Encryption 11.2.0.1 Certified with EBS 12

    - by Steven Chan
Oracle Advanced Security is an optional licenced Oracle 11g Database add-on.  Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) offers two different features:  column encryption and tablespace encryption.  11.2.0.1 TDE Column encryption was certified with E-Business Suite 12 as part of our overall 11.2.0.1 database certification.  As of today, 11.2.0.1 TDE Tablespace encryption is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. What is Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) ? Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) allows you to protect data at rest. TDE helps address privacy and PCI requirements by encrypting personally identifiable information (PII) such as Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. TDE is completely transparent to existing applications with no triggers, views or other application changes required. Data is transparently encrypted when written to disk and transparently decrypted after an application user has successfully authenticated and passed all authorization checks. Authorization checks include verifying the user has the necessary select and update privileges on the application table and checking Database Vault, Label Security and Virtual Private Database enforcement policies.

  • New Whitepaper: Upgrading EBS 11i Forms + OA Framework Personalizations to EBS 12

    - by Sara Woodhull
Personalizations are -- and have always been -- one of the safest and most upgradable ways to "customize" your Oracle E-Business Suite screens, both for Oracle Forms-based screens and for Oracle Application Framework-based pages. However, the upgrade from Release 11i to Release 12.1 spans many years of EBS evolution, during which time Oracle has actively been building many new features and modules. A lot has changed in Oracle E-Business Suite that may affect upgrading your personalizations from 11i to 12.1. We have published a new note on My Oracle Support that discusses ways to evaluate your existing personalizations:Upgrading Form Personalizations and OA Framework Personalizations from Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i to 12.1 (Note 1292611.1)Two distinct types of personalizations There are two distinct types of personalizations: Form Personalization OA Framework Personalization. Both types of personalization are completely metadata-based. The personalizations are stored as data in database tables. However, because the underlying technologies (Oracle Forms and OA Framework) are very different, Forms personalizations and OA Framework personalizations are not equivalent and cannot be converted or migrated from one to the other.

  • ATG Live Webcast Event - EBS 12 OAF Rich UI Enhancements

    - by Bill Sawyer
The E-Business Suite Applications Technology Group (ATG) participates in several conferences a year, including Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco and OAUG/Collaborate.   We announce new releases, roadmaps, updates, and other news at these events.  These events are exciting, drawing thousands of attendees, but it's clear that only a fraction of our EBS users are able to participate. We touch upon many of the same announcements here on this blog, but a blog article is necessarily different than an hour-long conference session.  We're very interested in offering more in-depth technical content and the chance to interact directly with senior ATG Development staff.  New ATG Live Webcast series -- free of charge As part of that initiative, I'm very pleased to announce that we're launching a new series of free ATG Live Webcasts jointly with Oracle University.  Our goal is to provide solid, authoritative coverage of some of the latest ATG technologies, broadcasting live from our development labs to you. Our first event is titled: The Latest E-Business Suite R12.x OA Framework Rich User Interface Enhancements This live one-hour webcast will offer a comprehensive review of the latest user interface enhancements and updates to OA Framework in EBS 12. • Using Microsoft Office 2007 with E-Business Suite Release 12

    - by Steven Chan
Many products in the Oracle E-Business Suite offer optional integrations with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Projects.  For example, some EBS products can export tabular reports to Microsoft Excel.  Some EBS products integrate directly with Microsoft products, and others work through the Applications Desktop Integrator (WebADI and ADI) as an intermediary. These EBS integrations have historically been documented in their respective product-specific documentation.  In other words, if an EBS product in the Oracle Financials family supported an integration with, say, Microsoft Excel, it was up to the product team to document that in the Oracle Financials documentation. Some EBS systems administrators have found the process of hunting through the various product-specific documents for Office-related information to be a bit difficult.  In response to your Service Requests and emails, we've released a new document that consolidates and summarises all patching and configuration requirements for EBS products with MS Office integration points in a single place:Using Microsoft Office 2007 with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i and R12 (Note 1072807.1)

  • Offloading (Some) EBS 12 Reporting to Active Data Guard Instances

    - by Steven Chan
For most Oracle Database users, Oracle Active Data Guard allows users to:Create a physical standby database for business continuity and disaster recoveryOffload reporting from the production database to the read-only physical standby databaseE-Business Suite customers have been able to use Active Data Guard to create physical standby databases for their EBS environments since the feature was introduced with the 11g Database.  EBS sysadmins can use the generic Active Data Guard documentation to take advantage of the Active Data Guard standby database capabilities.  I am pleased to announce that it is now possible to offload a subset of some ReportWriter-based reports -- but not all -- from a production EBS environment to an Active Data Guard physical standby database.  But before I go into the details of this newly-certified configuration, it's necessary to understand some details about what happens whenever someone attempts to access the E-Business Suite.

  • How to Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04.2 to Ubuntu 12.04.3

    - by Saurav Kumar
I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04.2 32bit. I installed it using LiveCD. Tomorrow, 23rd August 2013,Ubuntu 12.04.3 is released. I want to upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04.2 to Ubuntu 12.04.3 without using any LiveCD. Is it possible? If so please suggest me how can I do. Actually while using Ubuntu 12.04.2 I have troubled with graphics. My graphics card is Intel i845G 64 MB. When Ubuntu starts it works fine and smooth without any lagging, but after sometime it hangs for few seconds (1 or 2 seconds) with a garbage screen and becomes sluggish. All windows and browsers start lagging and also it is not possible to play any video in any player (VLC, Movie Player, Xnoise, SMPlayer etc..). I think Upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04.3 could fix my problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated..

  • Data Masking Pack 12.1.0.3 Certified with E-Business Suite 12.1.3

    - by Elke Phelps (Oracle Development)
I'm pleased to announce the certification of the E-Business Suite 12.1.3 Data Masking Template for the Data Masking Pack with Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12.1.0.3. You can use the Oracle Data Masking Pack with Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control 12c to scramble sensitive data in cloned E-Business Suite environments.     You may scramble data in E-Business Suite cloned environments with EM12.1.0.3 using the following template: E-Business Suite 12.1.3 Data Masking Template for Data Masking Pack with EM12c (Patch 18462641) What does data masking do in E-Business Suite environments? Application data masking does the following: De-identify the data:  Scramble identifiers of individuals, also known as personally identifiable information or PII.  Examples include information such as name, account, address, location, and driver's license number. Mask sensitive data:  Mask data that, if associated with personally identifiable information (PII), would cause privacy concerns.  Examples include compensation, health and employment information.   Maintain data validity:  Provide a fully functional application.  How can EBS customers use data masking? The Oracle E-Business Suite Template for Data Masking Pack can be used in situations where confidential or regulated data needs to be shared with other non-production users who need access to some of the original data, but not necessarily every table.  Examples of non-production users include internal application developers or external business partners such as offshore testing companies, suppliers or customers.  Due to data dependencies, scrambling E-Business Suite data is not a trivial task.  The data needs to be scrubbed in such a way that allows the application to continue to function. The template works with the Oracle Data Masking Pack and Oracle Enterprise Manager to obscure sensitive E-Business Suite information that is copied from production to non-production environments.  The Oracle E-Business Suite Template for Data Masking Pack is applied to a non-production environment with the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Data Masking Pack.  When applied, the Oracle E-Business Suite Template for Data Masking Pack will create an irreversibly scrambled version of your production database for development and testing. Is there a charge for this? Yes. You must purchase licenses for the Oracle Data Masking Pack to use the Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 template. The Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 Template for the Data Masking Pack is included with the Oracle Data Masking Pack license.  You can contact your Oracle account manager for more details about licensing. References Additional details and requirements are provided in the following My Oracle Support Note: Using Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 Template for the Data Masking Pack with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1 Data Masking Tool (Note 1481916.1) Masking Sensitive Data in the Oracle Database Real Application Testing User's Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) Related Articles Scrambling Sensitive Data in E-Business Suite E-Business Suite 12.1.3 Data Masking Certified with Enterprise Manager 12c
