  • What is the Benefit of Offsite SEO

Off site SEO is a massive field, which is extremely complex and is made up of lots of different factors. What I will look to do is touch on what I consider to be the most important areas and the impact which they can potentially have on your websites ranking within search engines. The primary and most important item in my experience is links.

  • How many times can you randomly generate a GUID before you risk duplicates? (.NET)

    - by SLC
Mathematically I suppose it's possible that even two random GUIDs generated using the built in method in the .NET framework are identical, but roughly how likely are they to clash if you generate hundreds or thousands? If you generated one for every copy of Windows in the world, would they clash? The reason I ask is because I have a program that creates a lot of objects, and destroys some too, and I am wondering about the likelihood of any of those objects (including the destroyed ones) having identical GUIDs.

  • Open source alternative for "Intellisense"

    - by Elazar Leibovich
Microsoft has recently announced "Intellisense", a killer feature for VS2010 IMHO. Basically it records all the instructions the program ran, and allows you to easily look through the execution log. Is there a similar feature for open source tools? Specifically such a feature for Java with Eclipse integration would be a nice thing to have.

  • naive bayesian spam filter question

    - by Microkernel
Hi guys, I am planning to implement spam filter using Naive Bayesian classification model. Online I see a lot of info on Naive Bayesian classification, but the problem is its a lot of mathematical stuff, than clearly stating how its done. And the problem is I am more of a programmer than a mathematician (yes I had learnt Probability and Bayesian theorem back in school, but out of touch for a long long time, and I don't have luxury of learning it now (Have nearly 3 weeks to come-up with a working prototype)). So if someone can explain or point me to location where its explained for programmers than a mathematician, it would be a great help. PS: By the way I have to implement it in C, if you want to know. :( Regards, Microkernel

  • Error when feeding a mysql db with a python-parsed data

    - by Barnabe
I use this bit of code to feed some data i have parsed from a web page to a mysql database c=db.cursor() c.executemany( """INSERT INTO data (SID, Time, Value1, Level1, Value2, Level2, Value3, Level3, Value4, Level4, Value5, Level5, ObsDate) VALUES (%s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s)""", clean_data ) The parsed data looks like this (there are several hundred such lines) clean_data = [(161,00:00:00,8.19,1,4.46,4,7.87,4,6.54,null,4.45,6,2010-04-12),(162,00:00:00,7.55,1,9.52,1,1.90,1,4.76,null,0.14,1,2010-04-12),(164,00:00:00,8.01,1,8.09,1,0,null,8.49,null,0.20,2,2010-04-12),(166,00:00:00,8.30,1,4.77,4,10.99,5,9.11,null,0.36,2,2010-04-12)] if i hard code the data as above mySQL accepts my request (except for some quibbles about formatting) but if the variable clean_data is instead defined as the result of the parsing code, like this: cleaner = [(""" $!!'""", ')]'),(' $!!', ') etc etc] def processThis(str, lst): for find, replace in lst: str = str.replace(find, replace) return str clean_data = processThis(data, cleaner) then i get the dreaded "TypeError: not enough arguments for format string" After playing with formatting options for a few hours (I am very new to this) I am confused... what is the difference between the hard coded data and the result of the processThis function as fas as mySQL is concerned? Any idea greatly appreciated...

  • Optimally reducing maximum flow

    - by ArIck
Given a parameter k, I'm trying to delete k edges from a directed graph such that the maximum flow is reduced by as much as possible. The graph has a source s and a sink t, and the capacity of each edge is one. The graph may or may not contain cycles. My proposed solution would be to first perform a topological sorting on the graph, using an algorithm that "forgives" cycles -- perhaps by ignoring edges that lead us back to the source. Then (assuming k = 1): i = 0 for each vertex u order by topological(u) for each edge (u, v) order by topological(v) descending if topological(v) > topological(u) then delete (u, v) if ++i = k then return else // edge doesn't contribute to max flow, ignore Would this work, or am I totally off-track here?

  • How te execute with /bin/false shell

    - by Amar
Hello I am trying to setup per-user fastcgi scripts that will run each on different port and with different user. Here is example of my script: #!/bin/bash BIND=127.0.0.1:9001 USER=user PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=2 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=10000 etc... However, if I add user with /bin/false (which I want, since this is about to be something like shared hosting and I dont want users to have shell access), the script is run'd under 1001, 1002 'user' which, as I googled, might be security hole. My question is: Is it possible to allow user(s) execute shell scripts but disable them to log in via SSH ? Thank you

  • Best Youtube embed player sizes?

    - by Xeoncross
I use tumblr to share videos and, unfortunately, when re-posting a video to your tumblelog it uses the embed code at 400x336px. This is neither widescreen nor very large. So I'm trying to set the player to better size and I'm finding that the youtube player really comes in many sizes. For example, when copying the embed code for and HD video I get the sizes 560x340, 640x385, and 853x505. Then when I look at the embed code for a SD video I get the sizes 425x344, 480x385, and 640x505. I was having the best luck with setting the player to 640 x 505 as it was large enough for HD and perfect for SD. print str_replace( array('400', '336'), array('640', '505'), $video_player_html); Has anyone dealt with trying to find a good standard embed size for a site? One thing that would make this a lot easier is to know whether the video was HD or not - however, that info is not provided in the embed code. I guess I am actually more interested in knowing the right ratio (or specific size) to use that works the best for youtube's mixed content.

  • How is unautenticated site navigation handled in ASP.NET?

    - by Code Sherpa
Hi. I am wondering how to do the following... I have a registration system. When the user successfully registers, he is then led down a series of data gathering pages (for his profile) and then, finally, ends on his profile's home page where he can start to use the site. All this happens without ever logging into the system so, he is unauthenticated and unconfirmed. My question is, how does this happen? How can I allow my user to be unauthenticated (and unconfirmed, but this I understand) and use all aspects of the Web site? The way I have things set up right now, my code should be doing this: case CreateProfileStatus.Success: //FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(userName, false); Response.Redirect("NextPage.aspx", false); break; but, I am being redirected to the login page after registration which is not the result I want. This is what the relevant nodes in my web.config look like: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms name=".AuthCookie" loginUrl="default.aspx" protection="All"/> </authentication> <authorization> <deny users="?"/> <allow roles="Administrators" /> </authorization> <anonymousIdentification enabled="true" cookieName=".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookieTimeout="100000" cookiePath="/" cookieRequireSSL="false" cookieSlidingExpiration="true" cookieProtection="Encryption" cookieless="UseCookies" domain="" /> When the user logs out after the registration and initial interaction with the site he will be required to log in upon return. At this point he must be authenticated but does not need to be confirmed for a period of time. Eventually, he will be reminded. So, how is this done? Thanks in advance.

  • Collision Detection for arbitrarily sized, positioned and rotated rectangles in XNA

    - by Stefan
I'm working with xna in C# and in my game I will have a variety of space ships flying all over the place. They will each have an arbitrary rotation, size and position in space and I need a method to determine when they collide. Ideally the method would take two Rectangles, two doubles and two Vector2s for size, rotation and position respectively and return a boolean that indicates whether they have intersected or not.

  • Is there a Java API for creating a XHTML document?

    - by Bedwyr Humphreys
I want to provide a simple XHTML representation of each of the resources in a REST web service. At the moment i'm using a StringBuilder to generate these which is both tedious and error prone. I don't see these changing after I publish the service but the process of coding each is a bit painful. Is there a XHTML document writer api? Should I just use an XML writer? Which one? Should I just roll my own basic HTML document class - doctype is the same each time, i just need to set the title, metatags and body content, most of which (but not all content) is already in HTML for the GETs. Or should I just use StringBuilder and stop whining? ;) Thanks.
