  • How to make Evolution mail work with my work email address?

    this is the 1st time to write here and the 1st time to use a mail client other than outlook. I tried to add my enterprise email address to evolution mail, I tried both server types exchange mapi and microsoft exchange. With exchange mapi i get this error message "Authentication failed. MapiLogonProvider: Failed to login into the server" With Microsoft Exchange I get this error "Could not connect to server . Make sure the URL is correct and try again." Although I'm sure of all the steps Server: ip address of the mail server Username: Domainname\Username Domain: domain name My system is Ubuntu Release 11.04 (natty) Kernel Linux 2.6.38-15-generic Genome 2.32.1 Evolution 2.32.2 Any kind of help is appreciated and thanks in advance

  • Why can't i change the permissions of files I have access to?

    I'm logged into a server as user "ubuntu" and I've got files that look like this: -rw-rw-r-- 1 www-data www-data 33150 2012-06-04 22:17 file-a.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 www-data www-data 36371 2012-06-04 22:15 file-b.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 www-data www-data 41439 2012-06-04 22:16 file-c.png the ubuntu user is a member of the group www-data: > groups unbuntu ubuntu : ubuntu www-data so shouldn't I be able to change other permissions since I have access to the file? I'm not an expert on the user/group stuff ... so this is just perplexing me. I'm trying to run: > chmod o-r * I realize I can do it with sudo, easily, but I'm trying to understand why I can't modify the files without sudo. Thanks for any help!

    Hi There is this weird problem going on with putting ssl on the server I keep on getting this error in the terminal after I already created the .key and .crt files but it keeps on saying I placed the files in the conf.d directory and I already configured the thing so there is something that I did wrong there I also used openssl to create a .key and the .crt files thanks for the help if anyone can service apache2 reload Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/conf.d/www.domainname.crt Invalid command '-----BEGIN', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'conftest' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. ...fail!

  • Ripping DVD to iso - Accurately

    I have been using Brasero to rip my DVD collection to .iso. However, I've discovered some errors in some of the DVDs through playback e.g. VLC player would just stop playing the iso file when a bad section in playback is met (half-way through a film). The worst thing is that no errors or warnings were thrown during the ripping process - I could have . Is there a method or application that will monitor DVD/file data integrity and avoid such scenarios in the future? Anything equivalent to Exact Audio Copier or CDparanoia for DVDs?

  • Changing mouse behaviour in EOG

    When I open a photo in eog I can easily zoom with the mouse mouse wheel. This is kind of nice but since I have a touchpad with two-fingered scrolling and horizontal scrolling I'd rather scroll in the image and zoom by using Ctrl+Mouse Wheel? I basically want the same behaviour as in evince: Horizontal Scroll and Normal Scroll navigate within the image and Ctrl + Mouse Wheel zooms in and out. Is this possible somehow? [EDIT] I just figured out that what I want is already implemented: I can pan the image by using Ctrl + Mouse Wheel. This is fine as it is the behaviour I want only with the Ctrl inverted. But I cannot pan to the left. Up, down and right work fine. What's the problem?

  • Wireless keeps asking for password

    Hia I just installed 12.04 on my old ibook G3 (since i wiped the HDD) Now luckely i have a wifi-ethernet bridge on my pc to give the ibook intertnet but even when it is connected to eth0 (LAN) it keeps asking to connect to eth1(Wi-Fi) the router is using WPA2 Personal with AES I was just wondering, bescuse the router is upsatirs and the ibook is downstairs next to my PC. and the wifi connects upstairs, but I can't use it up there 'cos the batteiy is junk and i got no plugs that'll reach.     I want to create my own deb repository to store some packages. I've tried reprepro and it works fine, except one but fundamental feature. Reprepro can't store several versions of the same package in the repository. But the ability to store several versions of the same package is essential to me, so I'm asking what soft can do such a thing. Here is a piece of reprepro FAQ that shows that it can't do it: 3.1) Can I have two versions of a package in the same distribution? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, this is not possible right now, as reprepro heavily optimizes at only having one version of a package in a suite-type-component-architecture quadruple. You can have different versions in different architectures and/or components within the same suite. (Even different versions of a architecture all package in different architectures of the same suite). But within the same architecture and the same component of a distribution it is not possible.

  • LTSP: flash plugin crashes after updates

    I am running an alternate install 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 with ltsp-server-standalone. I recently ran a few updates, including adding wine from the repos, adding Medibuntu, and adding google earth, all on the server, which runs as a user workstation. Before the updates, the flash plugin ran fine in thin clients. However, it now crashes. No problem with running the flash plugin on the server / workstation. I have since followed the LTSPManual pdf to copy over my sources list, add Medibuntu in the chroot, update and upgrade, and then update the image, but the flash plugin still crashes.   • how to safely Uninstall Ubuntu 12.04 and reinstall 11.10

    I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 following the instructions here. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PreciseUpgrades. But after the upgrade a lot of my image processing packages don't work some of their dependencies have been removed. Honestly there is not that much difference between 11.10 and 12.04. So please can someone tell me how to safely remove 12.04 and go back to 11.10 without losing documents, and source packages on my old Ubuntu. Thanks

I had tried to configure my internet connection in fedora 16 using the following method which worked fine :-- I've tried to go to Edit Connection then to the DSL tab then ADDenter my username and passwordSave.   • How to restore the icon of firefox (or any other program)

    Ubuntu 11.10 came with Firefox 7.x.x so I downloaded the Firefox 12 from its site. I did following to install this Extracted the archive. Put that extracted folder into /usr/lib/, the location was something like /usr/lib/firefox-12.0/. At this point of time I was having 2 firefox versions, so I deleted the older one (/usr/lib/firefox-7.x.x) Next I made a link of the firefox executable (/usr/lib/firefox-12.0/firefox) and place that into /usr/bin replacing the older one. During this process I didn't touched/removed from launcher bar. There was no problem in to launch firefox from the old icon from the launcher, I checked the version in about and it was 12. But as soon as I restarted the system I got the following results. Now how can I restore the icons?

  • htaccess 301 redirect help needed

    Due to some issues in my site many pages are visible as duplicate using : www.example.com/page.html?task=view but it's content is exactly same as www.example.com/page.html. One way is to use http 301 redirect from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html when anybody fetches page with arguments. But links like www.example.com/page.html?task=view will remain visible to outside world. Another way is canonicalization which I don't want to use as it is difficult to insert the tag in Joomla CMS. I want to hide www.example.com/page.html?task=view from external world. Is it possible to change the url from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html ? I mean if there is href link of www.example.com/page.html?task=view in my web page, it should be visible to external world as without any arguments. This is different from using 301 to convert externally accessed page : www.example.com/page.html?task=view to without using arguments in .htaccess.

  • migrating PR / rankings from one site to another

    Ive got a clients company site with decent PR, backlinks and search engines rankings. The client wants to change their comapany name and therfore URL, i will set up a rediect between the old site and the new site. But i was wandering is their a way to tell Google that they are moving while retaining all your rankings ? It is the same people, services, office building same everything just rebranded under a different name and url. Additionaly if their is a way to do this, how does google stop you buying expired domains and just pointing them onto your site, for instance i could buy several PR3 domains all relating to the same sector and point them at my site or would google catch on to this ?

  • Wordpress Multisite and Google Analytics in subfolders with mapped domains

    I have a wordpress multisite with sub folders. The site's subfolders are mapped to domains, which are set to primary. I'm using the 'Google Analytics Multisite Async' code to track things. From what I can see it's tracking the sites fine (getting page hits for each site in google analytics) baring the original site in the Multisite which in content overview lists domains then the amount of traffic it's getting along with the orginal domains traffic. I don't want to track any other traffic for my orginal site than what goes to that. i.e. I don't want it tracking my other sites in multi-site. e.g. domain1.com is my orginal and I have lots of other sites in the multisite lets say domain2.com, domain3.com. In content overview in Analytics it's listing say domain2.com as content. Can I tell it to filter these out some how either in Analytics or within WordPress? Hopefully explained that clearly!

  • Alternatives to a leveling system

    I'm currently designing a rough prototype of a mecha fighting game. These are the basics I came up with: Multiplayer (matchmaking for up to 10 people, for now) Browser based (HTML5) 2D (<canvas>) Persistent (as in, players have accounts and don't have to use a new mech each time they start a match) Players earn money upon destroying another mech, which is used to buy parts (guns, armor, boosters, etc) Simplicity (both of the game itself, and of the development of said game) No "leveling" (as in, players don't get awarded with XP) The last part is bothering me. At first, I wanted to have players gain experience points (XP) when destroying other mechs, but gaining two things at once (money and XP) seemed to be in conflict with my last point, which is simplicity. If I were to have a leveling system, that would require additional development. But, the biggest problem is that I simply couldn't fit it anywhere! Adding levels would require adding meaning to these levels, and most of the things that I hoped to achieve could already be achieved with the money mechanic I introduced. So I decided to drop leveling off completely. That, in turn, removed a fairly popular and robust mean of progression in games from my game (not that I would use it well anyway). Is there another way of progression in games, aside from leveling and XP points, that wouldn't get rendered redundant by my money mechanic, would be somehow meaningful (even on a symbolic level), and wouldn't be in conflict with my last point, which is simplicity?

  • GameStateManagement and inputs not being recognized

    EDIT: I've removed a bit of code from the input class to make this more readable, and updated my StartScreen class, which is now at the bottom. I have the same issues though, but they are explained in my comments on the bottom of this page. It won't let me paste my additional code here (the format comes out crazy), so I've linked to pastebin with the code pastebin I've been trying to implement the MS provided GameStateManagement sample with my game, but it has proven a bit difficult. Really, I'm using Oneksoft's Starter Kit, which uses the MS provided sample, so they are identical, except for my splash screen. I'm able to get the splash screen to launch, where it informs the player to press A to advance the screen, but this doesn't seem to accept any of my inputs. I’ve also added Console.Writeline(“Pressing A”) under the IsMenuPressed method in Input.cs to verify that it is getting called, but for some reason it is constantly spamming my log, rather than just appearing each time I press it. Not sure why this is happening.   • Can I animate render targets or the swap chain?

    I want to animate some synthetic video bits to fullscreen w/o tearing. Can I set up D3D 9/10/11 in exclusive mode, and have it present a series of buffers that I'm writing to? I know how to copy system memory bits into a texture, then draw that texture as a fullscreen quad, but it seems like overkill. Why should I use the triangle rasterizer when I want to do something so simple? All I want to do is set up a long (4-8 buffer) swapchain and set the bits of the back buffer that is about to be displayed. Or, I want to allocate 4-8 RenderTargets, and on each frame, copy the bits from system memory to the RenderTarget, then set it as the next thing to display. I've never seen or heard about anybody doing this, but it seems so dead simple!

  • Should iOS games use a Timer?

    No matter what frameworks we use -- Core Graphics, Cocos2D, OpenGL ES -- to write games, should a timer be used (for games that has animation even when a user doesn't do any input, such as after firing a missile and waiting to see if the UFO is hit)? I read that NSTimer might not get fired until after scheduled time (interval), and CADisplayLink can delay and get fired at a later time as well, only that it tells you how late it is so you can move the object more, so it can make the object look like it skipped frame. Must we use a Timer? And if so, what is the best one to use?

    How to combine two functions together I have a class controlling some hardware: class Heater() def set_power(self,dutycycle, period) ... def turn_on(self) ... def turn_off(self) And a class that connects to a database and handles all data logging fuctionallity for an experiment: class DataLogger() def __init__(self) # Record measurements and controls in a database def start(self,t) # Starts a new thread to aqcuire and reccord measuements every t secconds Now, in my program recipe.py I want to do something like: log = DataLogger() @DataLogger_decorator H1 = Heater() log.start(60) H1.set_power(10,100) H1.turn_on() sleep(10) H1.turn_off() etc Where all actions on H1 are recorded by the datalogger. I can change any of the classes involved, just looking for an elegant way to do this. Ideally the hardware functions remain separated from the database and DataLogger functions. And ideally the DataLogger is reusable for other controls and measurements.

  • iOS Efficiency File Saving Efficiency

    I was working on my iOS app and my goal is to save a file that I am receiving from the internet bit by bit. My current setup is that I have a NSMutableData object and I add a bit of data to it as I receive my file. After the last "packet" is received, I write the NSData to a file and the process is complete. I'm kind of worried that this isn't the ideal way to do it because of the limitations of RAM in a mobile device and it would be problematic to receive large files. My next thought was to implement a NSFileHandle so that as the file arrives, it would be saved to the disk, rather than the virtual memory. In terms of speed and efficiency, which method do you think will work decently on an iOS device. I am currently using the first, NSMutableData approach. Is it worth changing my app to use the NSFileHandle? Thanks in advance, Guvvy

    I'm trying to write a program that takes the length of my first, middle, and last names individually and then adds the total amount of letters up in the end. My answer keeps on being 666 instead of 18.
