  • Long string insertion with sed

    I am trying to use this expression to insert the contents of one text file into another after a give string. This is a simple bash script: TEXT=`cat file1.txt` sed -i "/teststring/a \ $TEXT" file2.txt This returns an error, "sed: -e expression #1, char 37: unknown command: `M'" The issue is in the fact that the contents of file1.txt are actually a private certificate so it's a large amount of text and unusual characters which seems to be causing an issue. If I replace $TEXT with a simple ASCII value it works but when it reads the large content of file1.txt it fails with that error. Is there some way to carry out this action? Is my syntax off with sed or my quote placement wrong?

  • IIS web service responds on server, not from remote client

    I have installed a web service on a server running IIS (v6, as far as I can tell). There is another service installed, which responds as expected. My service responds correctly when a browser is pointed to localhost, but there is no response when a remote client tries to query the service. Fiddler on the remote client simply reports a timeout. Wireshark on the remote client shows no response at all from the server, no NACK, nothing. Wireshark on the server detects no query at the relevant port (the service is installed on port 8080). There are no relevant entries in the event viewer. Obviously there is some issue of permissions or authentication. I have tried to compare my service to the service that works, but I have not been able to locate relevant parameters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Pfsense 2.1 OpenVPN can't reach servers on the LAN

    I have a small network set up like this: I have a Pfsense for connecting my servers to the WAN, they are using NAT from the LAN - WAN. I have an OpenVPN server using TAP to allow remote workers to be put on the same LAN network as the servers. They connect through the WAN IP to the OVPN interface.     I am trying to set robots.txt for all virtual hosts under nginx http server. I was able to do it in Apache by putting the following in main httpd.conf: <Location "/robots.txt"> SetHandler None </Location> Alias /robots.txt /var/www/html/robots.txt I tried doing something similar with nginx by adding the lines given below (a) within nginx.conf and (b) as include conf.d/robots.conf location ^~ /robots.txt { alias /var/www/html/robots.txt; } I have tried with '=' and even put it in one of the virtual host to test it. Nothing seemed to work. What am I missing here? Is there another way to achieve this?

  • High Load average threshold in linux

    My one of friend said that his server load average sometime goes above 500-1000, for me it is strange value because I never saw load average more than 10.   • How to log size of cookies in request header with apache

    We have an issue on our site with cookies growing too large. We have already expanded the acceptable header size and throttled the cookie sizes for now, but I'd like to figure out what the average client's header sizes are, specifically of the cookies. I've created an apache log that captures the cookies being set on each request: LogFormat "%{Cookie}i" cookies But this just spits out the entire contents of all cookies in the header. Is there a way to have apache just log the size (or just length of the string) per request?

I have not made decision where to put some core services as: dhcp, ldap, dns - which are critical for all network infrastructure. There are two possibilities: Configure them as redundant HA services on cluster hosts. Pack them all into dedicated virtual machine. What is the best practice?

  • Extremely high mysqld CPU usage with no active queries

    I have a VPS running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with LEMP stack, followed the guide from Linode Library (since I'm using a Linode) to setup, and everything worked fine until now. I don't know what's wrong, but my CPU usage just goes up since a week ago. Today things getting really bad - I got 74% CPU usage so I went check and found that mysqld taking too much CPU usage (somewhere around 30% ~ 80%) So I did some Google Search, tried disable InnoDB, restart mysql, reset ntp / system clock (Isn't this bug supposed to happen more than a year ago?!) and reboot my VPS, nothing helped. Even with mysql processlist empty, I still get mysqld CPU usage very high. I don't know what I missed and have totally no idea, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.   • tap interfaces always disabled in linux bridge

    Since yesterday I have been wrestling with this problem: unable to load configuration from uwsgi When I google it, nothing comes up. I am trying to run UWSGI under nginx with a very simple uwsgi.ini file. The file is being pointed to correctly.   • Is there any way to synchronize AD users with Office 365 but still be able to edit them online?

    I'm performing a migration to Office 365 from a third-party mail server (MDaemon); the local Active Directory doesn't include any Exchange server, and never had any. We will need directory synchronization in order to enable users to log on to Office 365 using their domain credentials; but it seems that as soon as you enable directory synchronization, you can't perform any action anymore on Office 365 users: all changes need to be made on the local Active Directory, and then replicated by the synchronization process. For ordinary users with a single e-mail address and standard features, this is not a big problem; but what about users which need an additional address? What if I need to configure some nonstandard setting, like "hide from address list" or a custom mailbox quota? From what I've gathered, the only supported way to do this, as you can't directly edit Office 365 objects anymore after synchronization is enabled, is to extend the local AD schema with Exchange attributes, and then manually edit them (!). Or, you can install at least one local Exchange server, and then use the Exchange administrative tools to configure the required settings. Is this correct or am I missing something? Is there any way to synchronize user accounts and password, but still be able to edit user settings directly in Office 365? If not (everything really needs to be set locally and then synchronized), is there any simpler way to do this than manually editing LDAP attributes or installing a local Exchange server?

  • Error installing mysql, any way to fix it?

    I was installing mysql with apt-get install mysql-server (like I always did) before that I had done an apt-get update (I am using Debian 6), and when I installed I found this problem, pretty common as I see, but Ive followed all stepts and nothing have worked, Ive tried with apt-get install -f also with apt-get remove mysql-server (and common, and mysql-server-5.1) and also with apt-get purge (every packate) and later install, but nothing...   • How to proceed setting up a secondary mysql linux slave?

    I have a mysql database master and slave in production. I want to setup additional mysql slave. There is around 15 Terabyte of data in the database and there are MYISAM and InnoDB tables in the database. I am thinking of below options: Shutdown master database and copy the mysql data folder to secondary slave. Can Innodb tables be copied like this? Run flush table with read lock, scp the file to new slave and unlock the table and this is possible for myisam tables, can I do the same for innodb tables too? Thanks for looking at the question.

  • Dovecot and StartSSL problems with issuer

    I am using dovecot (1) and trying to get my StartSSL certificate running. ssl_key_file points to my private key I tried pointing ssl_cert_file to my public key, with and without using the class1 certificate from http://www.startssl.com/certs/sub.class1.server.ca.pem as ssl_ca_file aswell as combing them with cat publickey sub.class1.server.ca.pem chained My mail client keeps telling me the certificate has no issuer, but doing openssl x509 on my public certificate tells me it is C=IL, O=StartCom Ltd., OU=Secure Digital Certificate Signing, CN=StartCom Class 1 Primary Intermediate Server CA My option for the CSR were: openssl req -new -newkey rsa:4096 -nodes Dovecot's log doesn't mention any problems. EDIT: Doesn't seem to be a problem with dovecot. I am having the same problem with postfix. openssl verify gives me the same error.

  • Sending UDP/514 data magically appears in syslog without rsyslog running

    I’m using a programming language without a library to log to rsyslog over UDP. I thought I was going to need to write a library but I discovered something weird. If I send data on UDP/514 with the port open on the server then the data appears in the server’s syslog. rsyslogd isn’t running so syslog isn’t doing this. Data doesn’t get formatted into a syslog message so rsyslogd really isn’t doing this (only raw text enters syslog). Linux must see the data coming in on this port and know that it should go into /var/log/messages? If I do the same on another port (e.g. UDP/515) then nothing appears in the log! What is doing this? Some CentOS feature? The kernel?

    I have a Linux-Mint Debian Edition System. When I install sendmail I get an infinite loop. Reading configuration from /etc/mail/sendmail.conf. Validating configuration. Creating /etc/mail/databases... Reading configuration from /etc/mail/sendmail.conf. Validating configuration. Creating /etc/mail/databases... When I try dpkg --configure -a it is the same. Now I want to simple remove sendmail from the installation queue - but I can't simply do that, because apt-get always wants to configure sendmail first. Is there a way to force apt-get to remove sendmail or set it to "configured" - even though the package is not properly configured?

  • Graphics Tablet as input device for Windows 8

    Having used Windows 8 (and 8.1) on a touch screen I know how much better it is than with a mouse. I've seen people with graphics tables on 7 use them to scroll their browser etc... so I was wondering if I could use one as a touch screen for windows? and if did would the 8 features of swipe in from the sides etc... work properly? Just incase brand is an issue in this I was looking at getting a Wacom.

    This question is similar to 3 Monitors, 1 graphics card but with different video card. It has the same ports as GT 120 in that question. Would it support dual monitor? I don't need 3 monitors. Just 2 is good. Checked GeForce GT 430 Specs but have no idea whether it will support or not. While on it, can somebody explain how to know whether a graphics card support multiple display from such information?
