    I must not be the only one - I'm rsyncing .tar.gz files and notice that every time the full file gets rsynced rather than the differences. Reading into it it seems back in 1999 someone created an algorithm that fixed the issue http://svana.org/kleptog/rgzip.html (only 5% of data needed transferred) Has this gone anywhere since, how do I create rsync friendly .tar.gz files?

    We are rolling out a large deployment of SQL Server Reporting Services Reports and our platform is SQL Server 2005 so our Report Server is version 2005 running in Native mode. Our web application uses server reports rendered in the Report Viewer 9.0 control. We want to be able to use local reports based on the 2008 RDL spec to create some dashboard applications. We also would like to use the new report viewer 10.0 to viewer these reports. Is there a way to run these both Side-By-Side in the same project? If so how would we go about that? Create a custom server control?

  • jQuery Audio Player

    I was given 2 MP3 files, one that is 4.5Mb and one that is 5.6Mb. I was instructed to have them play on a website i am managing. I have found a nice, clean looking CSS based jQuery audio player. My question is, is this the right solution for files that big? I am not sure if the player preloads the file, or streams it ? (if that is the correct terminology) i dont deal much with audio players and such... this player is from happyworm.com/jquery/jplayer/latest/demo-01.htm is there another approach i shoudl take to get this to play properly? I dont want it to have to buffer, and the visitor to wait, or slow page loading...etc..etc.. i want it to play clean and not affect the visitors session to the site. thanks

    I need a software that simulates a network adapter. I need the virtual adapters will be able to communicate with each other. For example, if I i have 2 virtual adapter (on the same computer): interface1-1.1.1.1 and interface2-1.1.1.2. I want the packets that will be send through interface1 will be received in interface2. I have as an option to install VMWare server, but i prefer something more specific. anyone have ideas?

    Let's say I have a class public class MyObject { public int SimpleInt{get;set;} } And I have a List<MyObject>, and I ToList() it and then change one of the SimpleInt, will my change be propagated back to the original list. In other words, what would be the output of the following method? public void RunChangeList() { var objs = new List<MyObject>(){new MyObject(){SimpleInt=0}}; var whatInt = ChangeToList(objs ); } public int ChangeToList(List<MyObject> objects) { var objectList = objects.ToList(); objectList[0].SimpleInt=5; return objects[0].SimpleInt; } Why?     I have a toString() representation of an ArrayList. Copying the toString() value to clipboard, I want to copy it back into my IDE editor, and create the ArrayList instance in one line. In fact, what I'm really doing is this: my ArrayList.toString() has data I need to setup a unit test. I want to copy this ArrayList.toString() into my editor to build a test against this edge case I don't want to parse anything by hand My input looks like this: [15.82, 15.870000000000001, 15.92, 16.32, 16.32, 16.32, 16.32, 17.05, 17.05, 17.05, 17.05, 18.29, 18.29, 19.16] The following do not work: Arrays.asList() google collections Lists.newArrayList() Suggestions?

  • Python Locking Implementation (with threading module)

    This is probably a rudimentary question, but I'm new to threaded programming in Python and am not entirely sure what the correct practice is. Should I be creating a single lock object (either globally or being passed around) and using that everywhere that I need to do locking? Or, should I be creating multiple lock instances in each of the classes where I will be employing them. Take these 2 rudimentary code samples, which direction is best to go? The main difference being that a single lock instance is used in both class A and B in the second, while multiple instances are used in the first.   • Is it bad practice to initialize a variable to a dummy value?

    This question is a result of the answers to this question that I just asked. It was claimed that this code is "ugly" because it initializes a variable to a value that will never be read: String tempName = null; try{ tempName = buildFileName(); } catch(Exception e){ ... System.exit(1); } FILE_NAME = tempName; Is this indeed bad practice? Should one avoid initializing variables to dummy values that will never actually be used? (EDIT - And what about initializing a String variable to "" before a loop that will concatenate values to the String...? Or is this in a separate category? e.g. String whatever = ""; for(String str : someCollection){ whatever += str; } )

  • Best Practice: User generated HTML cleaning

    I'm coding a WYSIWYG editor width designMode="on" on a iframe. The editor works fine and i store the code as is in the database. Before outputing the html i need to "clean" with php on the server-side to avoid cross-site-scripting and other scary things. Is there some sort of best practice on how to do this? What tags can be dangerous? UPDATE: Typo fixed, it's What You See Is What You Get. Nothing new :)
