  • Newbie: UINavigationController is pulling me back from further learning :(

    I have created a window-based application and my problem is I am unable to create UINavigationController on the go. InFact I don't know how to do that. My AppDelegeate - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after application launch [window addSubview:logInView.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } here the logInView is an object of @interface LogInViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UITextField *usernameField; IBOutlet UITextField *passwordField; IBOutlet UIButton *logInButton; } -(IBAction) logInClick:(id) sender; from the click action of this loginviewcontroller It should be showing the home screen with navigation controller. and I have to add many subviews. My question is where should I init the UINavigationController and where could I write the codes for adding subviews? how to map it with interfacebuilder?

  • Linux Security/Sysadmin Courses in London?

    Hi, My employer has offered to send me on a couple of training courses and I'm just looking for some recommendations. I'm mainly looking to improve my security and general sysadmin skills. I would like to do something focused on UNIX as I mainly work with Linux boxes (but also a couple of FreeBSD boxes). I don't want to do a study-from-home course, so I would need to find somewhere based in London. It would be great to hear from anyone who has some experience with this kind of course.   • LINQ to SQL - Left Outer Join with multiple join conditions

    I have the following SQL which I am trying to translate to LINQ: SELECT f.value FROM period as p LEFT OUTER JOIN facts AS f ON p.id = f.periodid AND f.otherid = 17 WHERE p.companyid = 100 I have seen the typical implementation of the left outer join (ie. into x from y in x.DefaultIfEmpty() etc.) but am unsure how to introduce the other join condition ('AND f.otherid = 17') EDIT Why is the 'AND f.otherid = 17' condition part of the JOIN instead of in the WHERE clause? Because f may not exist for some rows and I still want these rows to be included. If the condition is applied in the WHERE clause, after the JOIN - then I don't get the behaviour I want. Unfortunately this: from p in context.Periods join f in context.Facts on p.id equals f.periodid into fg from fgi in fg.DefaultIfEmpty() where p.companyid == 100 && fgi.otherid == 17 select f.value seems to be equivalent to this: SELECT f.value FROM period as p LEFT OUTER JOIN facts AS f ON p.id = f.periodid WHERE p.companyid = 100 && AND f.otherid = 17 which is not quite what I'm after.

    Hi, consider the following example: public IEnumerable<String> Test () { IEnumerable<String> lexicalStrings = new List<String> { "test", "t" }; IEnumerable<String> allLexicals = new List<String> { "test", "Test", "T", "t" }; IEnumerable<String> lexicals = new List<String> (); foreach (String s in lexicalStrings) lexicals = lexicals.Union (allLexicals.Where (lexical => lexical == s)); return lexicals; } I'd hoped for it to produce "test", "t" as output, but it does not (The output is only "t"). I'm not sure, but may have to do something with the deferred processing. Any ideas how to get this to work or for a good alternative?

  • stuck with enable session state

    hi i have an application wherein i am accessing the Session object in the CommonCode.cs file that resides in the App_Code folder. But when the session object is accessed the application throws me an error: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration.     Hi all, I get this error: StandardWrapperValve[Vaadin Servlet]: PWC1406: Servlet.service() for servlet Vaadin Servlet threw exception java.lang.ClassCastException: com.delhi.entities.Category cannot be cast to com.delhi.entities.Category when I try to run my webapps on glassfish v2. Category is a JPA entity object the offending code according to the server log is: for (Category c : categories) { mymethod(); } categories is derived from: List<Category> categories = q.getResultList(); Any idea what went wrong?

  • New to AVL tree implementation.

    I am writing a sliding window compression algorithm (LZ77) that searches for phrases in a "moving" dictionary. So far I have written a BST where each node is stored in an array and it's index in the array is also the value of the starting position in the window itself. I am now looking at transforming the BST to an AVL tree. I am a little confused at the sample implementations I have seen. Some only appear to store the balance factors whereas others store the height of each tree. Are there any performance advantage/disadvantages of storing the height and/or balance factor for each node? Apologies if this is a very simple question, but I'm still not visualizing how I want to restructure my BST to implement height balancing. Thanks.

  • How to pass data to a C++0x lambda function that will run in a different thread?

    In our company we've written a library function to call a function asynchronously in a separate thread. It works using a combination of inheritance and template magic. The client code looks as follows: DemoThread thread; std::string stringToPassByValue = "The string to pass by value"; AsyncCall(thread, &DemoThread::SomeFunction, stringToPassByValue); Since the introduction of lambda functions I'd like to use it in combination with lambda functions. I'd like to write the following client code: DemoThread thread; std::string stringToPassByValue = "The string to pass by value"; AsyncCall(thread, [=]() { const std::string someCopy = stringToPassByValue; }); Now, with the Visual C++ 2010 this code doesn't work. What happens is that the stringToPassByValue is not copied. Instead the "capture by value" feature passes the data by reference. The result is that if the function is executed after stringToPassByValue has gone out of scope, the application crashes as its destructor is called already. So I wonder: is it possible to pass data to a lambda function as a copy? Note: One possible solution would be to modify our framework to pass the data in the lambda parameter declaration list, as follows: DemoThread thread; std::string stringToPassByValue = "The string to pass by value"; AsyncCall(thread, [=](const std::string stringPassedByValue) { const std::string someCopy = stringPassedByValue; } , stringToPassByValue); However, this solution is so verbose that our original function pointer solution is both shorter and easier to read. Update: The full implementation of AsyncCall is too big to post here. In short, what happens is that the AsyncCall template function instantiates a template class holding the lambda function. This class is derived from a base class that contains a virtual Execute() function, and upon an AsyncCall() call, the function call class is put on a call queue. A different thread then executes the queued calls by calling the virtual Execute() function, which is polymorphically dispatched to the template class which then executes the lambda function.

  • Serialized task distribution: use thread or epoll?

    Now I'm in such a situation that there is a group of predefined tasks for multiple clients to do(any client can take any task). When a client connects to the server, server choose a task from the uncompleted tasks and send it to the client. It takes a while for the client to finish the task and send the result back to the server. Since a task should be sent to only one client, server should process requests in a serialized way. Now I have two plans to do it: create a thread for each client connection and all the threads take turns accessing the task pool, or use epoll listening on all the connection and process for each event of clients. Which one is better for the job? Or is there any other ideas? The server will be run on a multi-core machine.

  • How can you tell which columns are unused in ALL_TAB_COLS?

    When you query the ALL_TAB_COLS view on Oracle 9i, it lists columns marked as UNUSED as well as the 'active' table columns. There doesn't seem to be a field that explicitly says whether a column is UNUSED, or any view I can join to that lists the unused columns in a table. How can I easily find out which are the unused columns, so I can filter them out of ALL_TAB_COLS?

  • Clean Stack Traces in Groovy using Eclipse?

    I am using Groovy in a Java Swing application as part of my plan to force-feed myself dynamic languages until I like them (which is happening, partly). My stack traces are filled with Groovy stuff like org.codehaus.groovy.runtime.callsite.ConstructorSite$ConstructorSiteNoUnwrapNoCoerce.callConstructor is there a way to get Eclipse to remove all of that codehaus stuff (filter stack traces, basically)? Edit: I can do this from the command-line with grep (well, not yet) so it's not so bad, but inside of Eclipse would be great too.
