  • Video on Hyperion Tax Provision

    - by Lia Nowodworska - Oracle
( in via Jan) EPM Information Development has asked us to remind you about the new video available for Hyperion Tax Provision. You can view it on the OracleEPMWebcasts YouTube channel here: http://bit.ly/1jxLlCy An information rich 4:40 minutes of your time.  So please take a look. The video gives a brief overview of the main features of  Hyperion Tax Provision. You will learn ... That Tax Provision and reporting System builds on the Hyperion Financial Close Reporting Platform That much of the Tax Provision flow process is similar to the Financial Close Process and that the modules have been aligned to work together very closely. That HTP enables you to integrate Book- and Tax Reporting on a common platform. That It uses the technology of HFM, ties in with SmartView and can be used with Hyperion Financial Reporting. That the native integration between the Financial System and the Tax System creates transparency for the Tax Departments and removes bottlenecks in the tax process. More technical information can be found here: Oracle Hyperion Tax Provision Data Sheet Oracle Hyperion Tax Provision White Paper Oracle Hyperion Tax Provision Documentation If you have another 45 minutes to spare and want to get into greater detail, then you can check out the recording of an Advisor Webcast that we did earlier last year: You can find this via KM Doc Oracle Business Analytics Advisor Webcast Schedule and Archive Recordings (Doc ID 1456233.1) -> Select the Tab "Archived 2013" and it is the third from the top: "Oracle Hyperion Tax Provision - Features and Overview with Demo" If you have questions towards that Advisor Webcast, you may participate in the Community Discussion about it. • The Emergence of a New Architecture for Long-term Data Retention

    - by Claudia Caramelli-Oracle
Dear Partner, A new research report from Wikibon explains how the combination of flash and tape makes for a superior solution for long-term data archives versus using dedupe appliances. The combination of these two technologies, that have been in the market, one for a few years and the other for decades, introduces a new concept. The concept is “Flape”, a concept first coined by Wikibon in October of 2012. Flape is a combination of Flash (SSD) technology and tape…this combination of technologies when used for long-term archiving can save IT departments as much as 300% of their overall IT budget over the course of 10 years. Do you want to know more? You can review the whole report here.

  • Wesquare (NL) helps major CG customer integrating Oracle Service Cloud (RightNow) with JDEdwards

    - by Richard Lefebvre
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE When this well known, Italy based, CG player claimed that they needed a new CRM tool, Oracle partner WeSquare had a precise idea of what would be required, knowing that the customer was using JDEdwards as an ERP: they immediately thoughts about a solution that would help synchronizing the customer’s back-end system with the new CRM interface. The customer asked for presentations from three companies, including Oracle, and eventually selected Oracle Service Cloud (RightNow) with Alfa Sistemi (Oracle Platinum Partner) as a System Integrator supported by Wesquare (Oracle Gold partner specialized in RightNow). Synchronizing an On Premises ERP with a new SaaS based CRM platform could be seen as an uphill task, but WeSquare was determined, during the presales cycle, to prove that they had the skills and the attitude to make the difference. So, they rolled up their sleeves and got to it: five days of relentless work, missed lunches, and hours of brainstorming showed its result in the form of a new interface that works fabulously well with the JDEdwards ERP back-end and was successfully pitched by Oracle to the end-customer to win the deal! WeSquare took the occasion to learn that they can integrate Oracle Service Cloud (RightNow) with practically every other solution that a customer may run. As part of the project, WeSquare was also involved in different add-on’s development with the aim of enriching Oracle Service Cloud’s functionality. WeSquare is based in The Netherlands with an in-shore practice supported by off-shore teams in India. WeSquare can integrate and synchronize any application with RightNow. Not an Oracle user group—although the conference was about and for higher education customers using Oracle software—but a Higher Education User Group (HEUG) conference. So what’s the difference? First of all, the HEUG is an entirely independent organization from Oracle, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors. As a self-governing organization, the more than 23,000 higher education members (and growing!) actively participate in a multitude of initiatives, communications and shared-learning opportunities that benefit each of them and their institutions. For example, one of these programs includes 16 active and effective Product Advisor Groups (PAGs) that interact directly with Oracle management, developers and business partners to provide input into product strategies and improvements. The HEUG also provides a variety of online tools to help its members navigate the world of Oracle applications software. There’s a lot more that this organization does, but you can go to www.heug.org yourself to learn more. We want to get back to our story! Anyway, as we were leaving the HEUG conference in Latin America, one of the guests invited to attend commented: “Do these users realize and appreciate how many people from Oracle come to support them? You have a much larger representation at these types of conferences than any other vendor. It shows the tremendous support you have for your higher education customers.” So that’s it! This is why the partnership between the HEUG and Oracle is so powerful and unique in the software industry. Two distinct, independent organizations come together focused entirely on providing the highest value and mutual benefit to each member, each organization and the larger higher education community. Through open communications and active engagement since the HEUG was formed in 1998, our partnership today is stronger than it has ever been and membership growing globally. Result? Everyone benefits. All for one and one for all—we are in this together. We’ve got a lot going on in the student solutions team and are working closely with customers and the HEUG to move ahead on continued development for PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9.2 and a new Oracle Student Cloud. Come back here for more stories, news and information! --Oracle Student Solutions Team

  • Online DATAFILE MOVE in Oracle Database 12c

    - by Ulrike Schwinn (DBA Community)

  • Simplifying data search using .NET

    - by Peter
An example on the asp.net site has an example of using Linq to create a search feature on a Music album site using MVC. The code looks like this - public ActionResult Index(string movieGenre, string searchString) { var GenreLst = new List<string>(); var GenreQry = from d in db.Movies orderby d.Genre select d.Genre; GenreLst.AddRange(GenreQry.Distinct()); ViewBag.movieGenre = new SelectList(GenreLst); var movies = from m in db.Movies select m; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(searchString)) { movies = movies.Where(s => s.Title.Contains(searchString)); } if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(movieGenre)) { movies = movies.Where(x => x.Genre == movieGenre); } return View(movies); } I have seen similar examples in other tutorials and I have tried them in a real-world business app that I develop/maintain. In practice this pattern doesn't seem to scale well because as the search criteria expands I keep adding more and more conditions which looks and feels unpleasant/repetitive. How can I refactor this pattern? One idea I have is to create a column in every table that is "searchable" which could be a computed column that concatenates all the data from the different columns (SQL Server 2008). So instead of having movie genre and title it would be something like. if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(searchString)) { movies = movies.Where(s => s.SearchColumn.Contains(searchString)); } What are the performance/design/architecture implications of doing this? I have also tried using procedures that use dynamic queries but then I have just moved the ugliness to the database. E.g. CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[search_music] @title as varchar(50), @genre as varchar(50) AS -- set the variables to null if they are empty IF @title = '' SET @title = null IF @genre = '' SET @genre = null SELECT m.* FROM view_Music as m WHERE (title = @title OR @title IS NULL) AND (genre LIKE '%' + @genre + '%' OR @genre IS NULL) ORDER BY Id desc OPTION (RECOMPILE) Any suggestions? Tips?

  • in iOS7 how do you stop the First viewcontroller autorotating?

    - by uaka
I have an app that just needs one screen to autorotate, the first and last screens should be portrait. I can get the last screen to stop rotating using: -(NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations { return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskPortrait; } But this does not work on the first screen, I am using a storyboard with a UINavigationController (I'm thinking that may have something to do with it?) Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks

  • Algorithm to reduce calls to mapping API

    - by aidan
A random distribution of points lies on a map. This data lies behind an API, and I want to grab the complete set of points within a given bounding box. I can query the API with the bounding box and the API will return the set of points that fall within that box. The problem is that the API will limit the result set to 10 items, with no pagination and no indication if there are more points that have been omitted. So I made a recursive algorithm that takes a bounding box and requests the points that lie within it. If the result set is exactly 10 items, then I split the bounding box into four quadrants and recurse. It works fine but my question is this: if want to minimize the number of API calls, what is the optimal way to split the bounding box? Splitting it into quadrants was just an arbitrary decision. When there are a lot of points on the map, I have to drill down many levels before I start getting meaningful results. So I imagine it might be faster to split the box into, say, 9, 16, or more sections. But if I do that, then I eventually get to a point where a lot of requests are returning 0 results which isn't so efficient. Also, does the size of the limit on the results set affect the answer? (This is all assuming that I have no prior knowledge of nominal point density in the bounding box)

  • Is there a more intelligent way to do this besides a long chain of if statements or switch?

    - by Harrison Nguyen
    I'm implementing an IRC bot that receives a message and I'm checking that message to determine which functions to call. Is there a more clever way of doing this? It seems like it'd quickly get out of hand after I got up to like 20 commands. Perhaps there's a better way to abstract this? public void onMessage(String channel, String sender, String login, String hostname, String message){ if (message.equalsIgnoreCase(".np")){ // TODO: Use Last.fm API to find the now playing } else if (message.toLowerCase().startsWith(".register")) { cmd.registerLastNick(channel, sender, message); } else if (message.toLowerCase().startsWith("give us a countdown")) { cmd.countdown(channel, message); } else if (message.toLowerCase().startsWith("remember am routine")) { cmd.updateAmRoutine(channel, message, sender); } }

  • How to publicize new Android's HTTP requests library

    - by Yaniv
I don't know if this really belongs here, but I developed an open-source HTTP requests library for Android called Unite. This library was built mainly to significantly facilitate the work and coding time, and makes it easy to create and work with HTTP requests. I think a big advantage of this library is that it is open-source, so everyone can contribute to make it even better. I started this project for personal use, and I really like the result. What is the right and proper way to publicize the project, I do think it will be handy to Android developers. So how can I make developers know this library exist?

  • Testing complex compositions

    - by phlipsy
I have a rather large collection of classes which check and mutate a given data structure. They can be composed via the composition pattern into arbitrarily complex tree-like structures. The final product contains a lot of these composed structures. My question is now: How can I test those? Albeit it is easy to test every single unit of these compositions, it is rather expensive to test the whole compositions in the following sense: Testing the correct layout of the composition-tree results in a huge number of test cases Changes in the compositions result in a very laborious review of every single test case What is the general guideline here?

  • Why using Fragments?

    - by ahmed_khan_89
I have read the documentation and some other questions' threads about this topic and I don't really feel convinced; I don't see clearly the limits of use of this technique. Fragments are now seen as a Best Practice; every Activity should be basically a support for one or more Fragments and not call a layout directly. Fragments are created in order to: allow the Activity to use many fragments, to change between them, to reuse these units... == the Fragment is totally dependent to the Context of an activity , so if I need something generic that I can reuse and handle in many Activities, I can create my own custom layouts or Views ... I will not care about this additional Complexity Developing Layer that fragments would add. a better handling to different resolution == OK for tablets/phones in case of long process that we can show two (or more) fragments in the same Activity in Tablets, and one by one in phones. But why would I use fragments always ? handling callbacks to navigate between Fragments (i.e: if the user is Logged-in I show a fragment else I show another fragment). === Just try to see how many bugs facebook SDK Log-in have because of this, to understand that it is really (?) ... considering that an Android Application is based on Activities... Adding another life cycles in the Activity would be better to design an Application... I mean the modules, the scenarios, the data management and the connectivity would be better designed, in that way. === This is an answer of someone who's used to see the Android SDK and Android Framework with a Fragments vision. I don't think it's wrong, but I am not sure it will give good results... And it is really abstract... ==== Why would I complicate my life, coding more, in using them always? else, why is it a best practice if it's just a tool for some cases? what are these cases?

  • Gathering IP address and workstation information; does it belong in a state class?

    - by p.campbell
I'm writing an enterprisey utility that collects exception information and writes to the Windows Event Log, sends an email, etc. This utility class will be used by all applications in the corporation: web, BizTalk, Windows Services, etc. Currently this class: holds state given to it via public properties calls out to .NET Framework methods to gather information about runtime details. Included are call to various properties and methods from System.Environment, Reflection details, etc. This implementation has the benefit of allowing all those callers not to have to make these same calls themselves. This means less code for the caller to forget, screw up, etc. Should this state class (please what's the phrase I'm looking for [like DTO]?) know how to resolve/determine runtime details (like the IP address and machine name that it's running on)? It seems to me on second thought that it's meant to be a class that should hold state, and not know how to call out to the .NET Framework to find information. var myEx = new AppProblem{MachineName="Riker"}; //Will get "Riker 10.0.0.1" from property MachineLongDesc Console.WriteLine("full machine details: " + myEx.MachineLongDesc); public class AppProblem { public string MachineName{get;set;} public string MachineLongDesc{ get{ if(string.IsNullOrEmpty(this.MachineName) { this.MachineName = Environment.MachineName; } return this.MachineName + " " + GetCurrentIP(); } } private string GetCurrentIP() { return System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(this.MachineName) .AddressList.First().ToString(); } } This code was written by hand from memory, and presented for simplicity, trying to illustrate the concept.

  • Do you know some Information about train travel in China?

Me and my friend are planning to China travel next year.well train travel in China is an interesting experience, with the world's fastest train (guangzhou to wuhan), the word's highest train (in tibet) and the world's oldest working train (from Tonglio to Baotou in the north of China). Now travelling in China by train is not always easy. You can do a Hong Kong to Beijing Train trip, and buy those tickets online. But to be honest with you, most of that journey is pretty boring. The best part of it is going through northern Guangdong and Southern Hunan provinces.ChinaTour.com is a reliable China Travel Agency based in USA, which has specialized in inbound China travel for decades.

  • issues with ASUS S301L ultrabooks

    - by Wuerze
I just like to tell you what still is a Problem in Ubuntu 14.04 and should be solved for a nice experience of this distribution. Unfortunately I do not have any hints to tell you, because I am just a user and know not much about programming. Anyway, I hope it helps. 1) Intel open source Graphics issues (proprietary) -when attaching HDMI-cable the screen switches to the external monitor and it's fine, but there is no switching back unless restart with HDMI deattached -black screen appears for like 2 seconds as if I would change screen in the settings; frequency increases with intensity of driver use (i.e. videos or video games) 2) hotkeys (commonly recognised) -there is no possibility to adjust brightness with the hotkeys (Fn+F5 and Fn+F6) 3) touchscreen (commonly recognised) -the touchscreen is behaving like a mouse -configuring gestures for the multi touch screen seems to always end in disabling touch pad gestures 4) panel symbols -battery symbol has got a low accuracy while it determines accurately the energy left; only 5 steps of energy are shown by the symbol Thank you all for participating in the solution of these problems! I will stay tuned and edit this list if something has been solved.

  • How to improve battery life on Samsung 13.3” Series 7 Ultra (NP730U3E-S01AU)?

    - by beam022
Recently I've bought a Series 7 Ultra Samsung ultrabook and decided to change the OS from originally installed Windows 8 to Ubuntu 14.04LTS. However, it's difficult not to notice great decrease in battery life: on pre-installed Windows 8 battery would last for about 6 hours while on Ubuntu it's almost empty after 2 hours of same kind of work (wi-fi, web, vlc, spotify, intellij idea). I'm not here to say that Ubuntu's battery performance is worse than Windows, but to ask for suggestions how to improve the situation (2 hours of work is pretty poor battery life). Can you recommend some sources, applications or tips/tricks that would improve battery life on my ultrabook? I really like the Ubuntu experience, but this makes my machine much less reliable. I suspect that graphic video card might be one of the issues here. Let me give you tech specs of the ultrabook: Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 3337U (1.80GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) Chipset: Intel HM76 Graphic: AMD Radeon™ HD 8570M Graphics with 1GB gDDR3 Graphic Memory (PowerExpress) and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Display: 13.3" SuperBright+ 350nit FHD LED Display (1920 x 1080), Anti-Reflective Memory: 10GB DDR3 System Memory at 1,600MHz Hard-drive: 128GB Solid-state Drive More informations here, on the official page. If it's helpful to provide additional info, I'm happy to do it, just let me know what you need. Thank you.
