  • How can I solve, error:unknown filesytem grub rescue>

    I was previously using Win7 and had two partitions on my hard disk. After learning about Ubuntu I decide to remove Windows and install Ubuntu 11.10 instead. All my important files and documents are stored in my second partition. After successful installation, during restart I get the error : error: unknown filesystem grub rescue> Please help me to resolve the problem, and note that I don't want dual boot my machine.

  • Setting up Windows 2008 with VPN and NAT

    I have a Windows 2008 box set up with VPN, and that works quite well. NPS is used to validate the VPN clients, who are able to access the private address of the server, once connected. I can't for the life of me get NAT working for the VPN clients, though. I've added NAT as a routing protocol, and set the one on in the VPN address pool as private, and the other as public - but it still won't NAT connections when I add a route through the VPN server's IP on the client side (route add SomeInternetIp IpOfPrivateInterfaceOnServer). I know I can reach the server's private interface (which happens to be 10.2.2.1) with remote desktop client, so I can't think of any issues with the VPN.

  • Folder/File permission transfer between alike file structure

    So my company has recently upgraded to a new SAN but the person who copied all the data over must have done a drag n' drop or basic copy to move everything. Apparently Xcopy is not something he cared to use. So now I am left with the task of duplicating all the permissions over. The structure has changed a bit ( as in more files/folders have been added) but for the most part has been stayed unchanged. I'm looking for suggestions to help automate this process. Can I use XCopy to transfer ONLY permissions to one tree from another? Would i just ignore any folders/permissions that don't line up correctly? Thanks a ton in advance, Tyler

  • cannot get apache2 redirect working for a site

    what i want to do is to redirect all visitors going to example.com to www.example.com.it seems a very common task but for some reason it is not working for this specific site .it always points to the default one.   • Ways to recover data from external hard drive

    I use an external hard disk for backup of my mac with time machine (OS 10.5.8). I have made something wrong and I have found important folders in the recycler bin. These folders come from external hd. They are backup folders (backups.backupdb) and others. I have tried to restore them draggin and dropping. Some of them came back in the external hd in a while. For the others it takes hours to "preparing to copy" and then it has said "there's no space to copy" on ext hd. It's strange. Files are now in the recycle bin (180gb), and the ext had should have lot of free space. But it isn't really so. Ext hd is not free of space even if these files are in the bin. I ask for advices. I'm not also able to use time machine now (and i have "lost" old backups) for the same reason. Ext hd says that it has not free space.. Thanks

  • How can I get a Windows 2008 print server to deploy to child domains?

    I am setting up a print server for our company that has a parent domain and 2 child domains. The print server is on the parent domain and I have no problems getting the print server to deploy printers through group policy to users on its own domain. The problem I am having is that it isn't deploying the printers to users that are in it's child domains. Some other info that may help: I am not sharing or listing printers in the directory I have added pushprinterconnections.exe to the group policy login script Does anything come to mind?

  • Using custom DataContractResolver in WCF, to transport inheritance trees involving generics

    I've got a WCF service, in which there are operations which accept a non-generic base class as parameter. [DataContract] class Foo { ... } This base class is in turn inherited, by such generics classes as [DataContract] class Bar : Foo { ... } To get this to work, I'd previously have to register KnownTypes for the Foo class, and have these include all possible variations of Bar (such as Bar, Bar and even Bar). With the DataContractResolver in .NET 4, however, I should be able to build a resolver which properly stores (and restores) the classes. My questions: Are DataContractResolvers typically only used on the service side, and not by the client? If so, how would that be useful in this scenario? Am I wrong to write a DataContractResolver which serializes the fully qualified type name of a generic type, such as Bar1[List1[string, mscorlib], mscorlib] ? Couldn't the same DataContractResolver on the client side restore these types?

  • Using a Scala symbol literal results in NoSuchMethod

    I have recently begun using Scala. I've written a DSL in it which can be used to describe a processing pipeline in medici. In my DSL, I've made use of symbols to signify an anchor, which can be used to put a fork (or a tee, if you prefer) in the pipeline. The question: What could possibly cause a symbol literal's mere existence to cause a NoSuchMethodError? In my DSL I am using an implicit function which converts symbols to instances of the Anchor class, like so: implicit def makeAnchor(a: Symbol):Anchor = anchor(a) Sadly, my understanding of Scala is weak enough that I can't think of why that might be causing my NoSuchMethodError.

  • NSRunAlertPanel not working in Tiger, though it works on Leopard and Snow Leopard

    I'm currently using NSRunAlertPanel to display a dialog. It works perfectly in Leopard and Snow Leopard. In Tiger, it also works except for the icon. In Leopard and Snow Leopard, the icon I used for the App is displayed on the left side of the strings. This is the expected behavior. However, in Tiger, there is a big margin on the left side of the strings, the icon is missing but the gap for the icon is there. Here's how i used the code: NSRunAlertPanel(@"My Application", @"My Application's string contents", @"OK", nil, nil); I really need to know why this happens. I did not add any code for the icon to appear in leopard and snow, but it's there. Thanks.

  • Avoiding secondary selects or joins with Hibernate Criteria or HQL query

    I am having trouble optimizing Hibernate queries to avoid performing joins or secondary selects. When a Hibernate query is performed (criteria or hql), such as the following: return getSession().createQuery(("from GiftCard as card where card.recipientNotificationRequested=1").list(); ... and the where clause examines properties that do not require any joins with other tables... but Hibernate still performs a full join with other tables (or secondary selects depending on how I set the fetchMode). The object in question (GiftCard) has a couple ManyToOne associations that I would prefer to be lazily loaded in this case (but not necessarily all cases). I want a solution that I can control what is lazily loaded when I perform the query.     I read the following page: Robert Benson's article on ECF developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/event_completion.html I also read the Solaris man pages but they are not very clear of how to use event notifications for directories. For example, If I add a new file into a directory, I would like to get some notification of that event. I found this link: blogs.sun.com/praks/entry/file_events_notification Which has what I need but it is for Solaris 11 ( which is not in the market yet).
