  • pdflatex reads .eps files saved in OS/X, but not in Ubuntu

    - by David B Borenstein
Sorry if this is a stupid question; I'm a newbie. I am preparing a manuscript in LaTeX. The journal (Physical Biology, an IOP publication) requires that figures be saved in .eps format, so I am trying to do that. However, I cannot get my LaTeX file to build when I have generated the .eps files on my Ubuntu computer. If I save the images on my Mac, the file build just fine. So far, I have tried saving images in ImageJ, FIJI and Inkscape. The same problem occurs in all three. When using kile, I get the following error: /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/oberdiek/epstopdf-base.sty:0: Shell escape feature is not enabled. In TexWorks, the error is different, but still there: Package pdftex.def Error: File `./figures4/figure4a-eps-converted-to.pdf' not found. Now, if I fire up Inkscape, FIJI or ImageJ on OS/X, everything works fine. The Mac also can't build with the Ubuntu-saved images. The images generated on the Ubuntu machine open fine using Document Viewer. I am building the same LaTeX file on both computers, with the exact same results. The header of my LaTeX file is: \documentclass[12pt]{iopart} \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{epstopdf} \usepackage{parskip} \usepackage{color} \usepackage{iopams} And then the code for the figure is: \begin{figure} \center{\includegraphics[width=4in] {./figures4/figure4a.eps}} \footnotesize{\caption{ \label{fig:4a} (4a) lorem ipsum dolor sic amet.}} \end{figure} I'd be happy to send an example of both .eps files. Again, sorry if this is a dumb question. I tried everything I could think of before posting here. Thanks, David

  • Bad results converting PDF to EPS on Linux

    - by Tim
I'm having some trouble converting PDFs (created by Adobe Illustrator on a Mac) to EPS. I have tried several things but I am wondering if there is a better option. The following list is ordered by decreasing quality: inkscape --export-area-page --export-eps=out.eps in.pdf using the graphical program Inkscape works best, but is a bit slow; pdftops -eps in.pdf out.eps uses Poppler and works good and is fast; pdf2ps in.pdf out.eps uses ghostscript and works ok for simple documents; convert in.pdf out.eps uses ImageMagick and always rasterizes the image. I haven't tested the following: acroread -toPostScript use acroread (Linux only) Some issues I've found: Transparency is not supported in EPS, but instead of flattening the layers, most programs rasterize the image producing big files and ugly graphs. Inkscape does this best by only rasterizing the unsupported area. Gradients are rendered properly by Inkscape, but Poppler somehow chops up the gradient into many shapes of different colors. Greek symbols are seemingly not supported by Ghostscript and are rasterized (using pdf2ps). What are your experiences for this kind of task? Did I forgot certain programs and/or command line options that improve quality? I found some posts on this, but not a (thorough) comparison of possibilities, please correct me if I'm wrong. • How to convert eps file to a large jpeg image

    - by Anand
Hello, I am using Linux. I want to convert an eps file to jpeg file. I find that I can use "convert" command. However, the resulting image looks very small. I want to enlarge the jpeg file by -resize option. It seems not to work. The resulting image is a pure black one. Do anyone has the same problem? Here are more details: 1: if I use convert -scale 1000x1000 your.eps your.jpg the resulting image looks like a low quality image. The eps vector image is not scaled properly. 2: if I use convert -geometry 300% your.eps your.jpg I get a pure black image. Here is my phf file: 2shared.com/document/RXl2Be-g/askquestions.html and my eps file: 2shared.com/file/qrmwKegj/askquestions.html Thank you very much for your help!

  • PDF printer which correctly embeds EPS into PDF

    - by Alexey Popkov
I need to convert to PDF a Word document containing embedded vector EPS images (by printing to PDF printer - I use Word 2003). Several years ago I tested some of commercial and free PDF printers and found none, with except to Acrobat Distiller, which embeds in the generated PDF file real PostScript content of the EPS image instead of the preview showed by Word. Has the situation changed from that time? Do you know any free or commercial PDF printer which handles embedded EPS correctly? UPDATE Good thread about EPS handling in different versions of Word: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/439881

  • resolution of an eps file

    - by yCalleecharan
Hi, I'm using Gunplot to create a figure in the metapost format, after which I'm converting to eps via the command line: mpost --sprologues=3 -soutputtemplate=\"%j-%c.eps\" myfigu.mp to get myfigu-0.eps. I would like to know the resolution of such an eps file. How do I proceed? Is the eps thus created has a fixed resolution? Thanks a lot

  • Converting .eps to .jpg

    - by Slinky
Our print team saves raster images as .eps files. We need to convert about 11000 .eps to .jpg. We are using ImageMagick (with Ghostprint) on Linux. The conversion occurs but the resulting .jpg is not the same size as the source .eps - It's about 1/2 the size. Probably a problem converting a vector to a raster. Any way to solve this?

  • iteration in latex

    - by Tim
    Hi, I would like to use some iteration control flow to simplify the following latex code \begin{sidewaystable} \caption{A glance of images} \centering \begin{tabular}{| c ||c| c| c |c| c|| c |c| c|c|c| } \hline \backslashbox{Theme}{Class} &\multicolumn{5}{|c|}{Class 0} & \multicolumn{5}{|c|}{Class 1} \\ \hline \hline 1 & \includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/0_1.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/0_2.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/0_3.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/0_4.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/0_5.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/1_1.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/1_2.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/1_3.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/1_4.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/1/1_5.eps} \\ \hline \hline 2 & \includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/0_1.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/0_2.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/0_3.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/0_4.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/0_5.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/1_1.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/1_2.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/1_3.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/1_4.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/2/1_5.eps} \\ \hline ... % similarly for 3, 4, ..., 22 \hline 23 & \includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/0_1.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/0_2.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/0_3.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/0_4.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/0_5.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/1_1.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/1_2.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/1_3.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/1_4.eps} &\includegraphics[scale=2]{../../results/23/1_5.eps} \\ \hline \end{tabular} \end{sidewaystable} I learn that the forloop package provides the for loop. But I am not sure how to apply it to my case? Or other methods not by forloop? Thanks and regards! Update: If I also want to simply another similar case, where the only difference is that the directory does not run from 1, 2, to 23, but in some arbitrary order such as 3, 2, 6, 9,..., or even a list of strings such as dira, dirc, dird, dirb,.... How to make the latex code into loops then? Thanks!

  • Image processing on bifurcation diagram to get small eps size

    - by yCalleecharan
Hello, I'm producing bifurcation diagrams (which are normally used in nonlinear dynamics). These diagrams identify abrupt changes in topologies due to stability changes. These abrupt changes occur as one or more parameters pass through some critical value(s). An example is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LogisticMap_BifurcationDiagram.png On the above figure, some image processing has been done so as to make the plot more visually pleasant. A bifurcation diagram usually contains hundreds of thousands of points and the resulting eps file can become very big. Journal submission in the LaTeX format require that figures are to be submitted in the eps format. In my case one of such figures can result in about 6 MB in Matlab and even much more in Gnuplot. For the example in the above figure, 100,000 x values are calculated for each r and one can imagine that the resulting eps file would be huge. The site however explains some image processing that makes the plot more visually pleasing. Can anyone explain to me stepwise how go about? I can't understand the explanation provided in the "summary" section. Will the resulting image processing also reduce the figure size? Furthermore, any tips on reducing the file size of such a huge eps figure? Thanks a lot...

  • Convert EPS/PDF to JPEG/PNG?

    - by Kjensen
Hi I need to be able to take EPS and PDF's and convert them to JPEG/PNG on the fly to display on a website - using .net code. I used ADC PDF from WebSupergoo for this like 3 years ago, and it worked fine - but some other and better options could easily have surfaced since then.

  • How do you import an EPS file in Inkscape?

    - by Neil
I'm using Inkscape, and I'm trying to import an EPS file to use it as a vector and eventually save it as an SVG. This link here mentions several methods: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=797 But the responses aren't rated since it's a forum, so I thought I'd ask here to find the best answer. I'd prefer not to have to use some website to convert the file to a PDF first. Either way, when I import an EPS into Inkscape, or use the website to convert it to a PDF, in both cases the resulting file loses all colour and gradients, and the EPS file gets cut off on the right side. It looks like ps2pdf is clipping the file incorrectly, and Inkscape is eliminating the colour. I have these version installed in Ubuntu Lucid Linux: Inskape 0.47.0-2ubuntu2 Ghostscript 8.71.dfsg.1-0ubuntu5.3

  • Retrieving many huge sized EPS files and converting them to JPEG in ASP.NET application

    - by Ashish Gupta
I have many (600) EPS files(300 KB - 1 MB) in database. In my ASP.NET application (using ASP.NET 4.0) I need to retrieve them one by one and call a web service which would convert the content to the JPEG file and update the database (JPEGContent column with the JPEG content). However, retrieving the content for 600 of them itself takes too long from the SQL management studio itself (takes 5 minutes for 10 EPS contents). So I have two issues:- 1) How to get the EPS content ( unfortunately, selecting certain number of content is not an option :-( ):- Approach 1:- foreach(var DataRow in DataTable.Rows) { // get the Id and byte[] of EPS // Call the web method to convert EPS content to JPEG which would also update the database. } or foreach(var DataRow in DataTable.Rows) { // get only the Id of EPS // Hit database to get the content of EPS // Call the web method to convert EPS content to JPEG which would also update the database. } or Any other approach? 2) Converting EPS to JPEG using a web method for 600 contents. Ofcourse, each call would be a long running operation. Would task parellel library (TPL) be a better way to achieve this? Also, is doing the entire thing in a SQL CLR function a good idea?

  • How can I enable my users to view EPS, PSD, and AI files without the Adobe Creative Suite?

    - by ObligatoryMoniker
I have many user's who work on a sales floor and need to be able to open these files just to view them so that they can confirm that the artwork they are getting from a customer is correct before passing it on. I do not want to purchase Adobe Creative Suite licenses for these users so that they can simply view these documents. What is the cheapest and best alternative to the Adobe Creative suite that will realistically open all (or at least some) of the files they are likely to receive? Currently I have tried to use XnView with Ghostscript, Inkscape, and Adobe Acrobat Reader but even with all these combined we still can't open many of the files that we receive.

  • Thunderbird confused about EPS attachments

    - by Martin
Sometimes, when I receive (Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 on OS X 10.5) emails with an EPS attachement sent from Mail OS X 10.4, I cannot open the EPS file. Thunderbird shows me 1 file, that can't be opened with any software but text edit. But, if I forward the email to myself, the forwarded email then has 2 files of the same name. One of the 2 forwarded files can be opened as expected. What can be wrong here?
