  • Joining different models in Django

    Let's say I have this data model: class Workflow(models.Model): ... class Command(models.Model): workflow = models.ForeignKey(Workflow) ... class Job(models.Model): command = models.ForeignKey(Command) ... Suppose somewhere I want to loop through all the Workflow objects, and for each workflow I want to loop through its Commands, and for each Command I want to loop through each Job. Is there a way to structure this with a single query? That is, I'd like Workflow.objects.all() to join in its dependent models, so I get a collection that has dependent objects already cached, so workflows[0].command_set.get() doesn't produce an additional query. Is this possible?

  • How can I prevent SerializeJSON from changing Yes/No/True/False strings to boolean?

    I have a data struct being stored in JSON format, converted using the serializeJSON function. The problem I am running into is that strings that can be boolean in CF such as Yes,No,True,and False are converted into JSON as boolean values. Below is example code. Any ideas on how to prevent this?     Hello, I'm abit new to programming Android App's, however I have come across a problem, I can't find a way to make global variables -unlike other coding like php or VB.NET, are global variables possible? If not can someone find a way (and if possible implement the way into the code I will provide below) to get a value from the variable 'songtoplay' so I can use in another Public Void... I would like the recruiters to be able to add a small javascript snippet to their personal websites, that will list jobs on my site. how can i go about this? I have webservices set up so the javascript can just call that, but i also need the result to be formatted and placed inline. This should work in a simular way to google adsense.   • What is the Browser version of a WebBrowser control in Windows Forms

    I'm building a Windows Forms application which makes use of the WebBrowser control. Can anyone tell me what rendering engine the control uses? Is it fixed based on the version of the .NET framework I'm developing against or is it based on the version of IE installed on the client's machine? Does the client even need IE? In other words, if a website looks right in my application on my machine, is it reasonably safe to assume it'll render right on everyone else's machine? Thanks!

  • SimpleXML adding html into Hash tree

    Question: I have an xml file that I am pulling from the web and parsing. One of the items in the xml is a 'content' value that has HTML. I am using SimpleXML/XMLin to parse the file like so: $xml= eval { $data-XMLin($xmldata, forcearray = 1, suppressempty= +'') }; When I use Dumper to dump the hash, I dsicovered that SimpleXML is parsing the HTML into the hash tree. 'content' => { 'div' => [ { 'xmlns' => 'http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml', 'p' => [ { 'a' => [ { 'href' => 'http://miamiherald.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451b26169e20133ec6f4491970b-pi', 'style' => 'FLOAT: left', 'img' => [ etc..... This is not what I want. I want to just grab content inside of this entry. How do I do this?

  • Qt and variadic functions

    OK, before lecturing me on the use of C-style variadic functions in C++...everything else has turned out to require nothing short of rewriting the Qt MOC. What I'd like to know is whether or not you can have a "slot" in a Qt object that takes an arbitrary amount/type of arguments. The thing is that I really want to be able to generate Qt objects that have slots of an arbitrary signature. Since the MOC is incompatible with standard preprocessing and with templates, it's not possible to do so with either direct approach. I just came up with another idea: struct funky_base : QObject { Q_OBJECT funky_base(QObject * o = 0); public slots: virtual void the_slot(...) = 0; }; If this is possible then, because you can make a template that is a subclass of a QObject derived object so long as you don't declare new Qt stuff in it, I should be able to implement a derived templated type that takes the ... stuff and turns it into the appropriate, expected types. If it is, how would I connect to it? Would this work? connect(x, SIGNAL(someSignal(int)), y, SLOT(the_slot(...))); If nobody's tried anything this insane and doesn't know off hand, yes I'll eventually try it myself...but I am hoping someone already has existing knowledge I can tap before possibly wasting my time on it.

  • Inserting newlines into a GtkTextView widget (GTK+ programming)

    I've got a button which when clicked copies and appends the text from a GtkEntry widget into a GtkTextView widget. (This code is a modified version of an example found in the "The Text View Widget" chapter of Foundations of GTK+ Development.) I'm looking to insert a newline character before the text which gets copied and appended, such that each line of text will be on its own line in the GtkTextView widget. How would I do this? I'm brand new to GTK+.   • How to rewrite url to include subdirectory?

    The following set of rewrite rules rewrite any urls formatted as foo.mydomain.com/bar to mydomain.com/mysubs/foo/bar.php. This all works fine except if I have a subdirectory named 'blah' in the original url such as foo.mydomain.com/blah/bar, then it will rewrite it as mydomain.com/mysubs/foo/bar (without the blah subdirectory) when what I need is the url to be rewritten as mydomain.com/mysubs/foo/blah/bar. So, what do I need to change to make this work correctly?   • When to use certain optimizations such as -fwhole-program and -fprofile-generate with several shared libraries

    Probably a simple answer; I get quite confused with the language used in the GCC documentation for some of these flags! Anyway, I have three libraries and a programme which uses all these three. I compile each of my libraries seperately with individual (potentially) different sets of warning flags. However, I compile all three libraries with the same set of optimisation flags. I then compile my main programme linking in these three libraries with its own set of warning flags and the same optimisation flags used during the libraries' compilation. 1) Do I have to compile the libraries with optimisation flags present or can I just use these flags when compiling the final programme and linking to the libraries? If the latter, will it then optimise all or just some (presumably that which is called) of the code in these libraries? 2) I would like to use -fwhole-program -flto -fuse-linker-plugin and the linker plugin gold. At which stage do I compile with these on ... just the final compilation or do these flags need to be present during the compilation of the libraries? 3) Pretty much the same as 2) however with, -fprofile-generate -fprofile-arcs and -fprofile-use. I understand one first runs a programme with generate, and then with use. However, do I have to compile each of the libraries with generate/use etc. or just the final programme? And if it is just the last programme, when I then compeil with -fprofile-use will it also optimise the libraries functionality? Many thanks, James

    I started learning vim today and installed it using sudo apt-get install vim Now, when I try to do something like :5dd it gives me the not an editor command error. I'm not sure why this is. Am I doing anything wrong? I looked at tutorials and everywhere I look I see that 5dd is a valid command.

  • Linq with a long where clause

    Is there a better way to do this? I tried to loop over the partsToChange collection and build up the where clause, but it ANDs them together instead of ORing them.     I've got an array of characters which contains a string: char buf[MAXBUFLEN]; buf[0] = 'f'; buf[1] = 'o'; buf[2] = 'o'; buf[3] = '\0'; I'm looking to pass this string as an argument to the gtk_text_buffer_insert function in order to insert it into a GtkTextBuffer. What I can't figure out is how to convert it to a const gchar *, which is what gtk_text_buffer_insert expects as its third argument. Can anybody help me out?

    Hard to come up with a good title for this question. What I really need is to be able to provide template parameters with different number of arguments in place of a single parameter. Doesn't make a lot of sense so I'll go over the reason: template < typename T, template <typename,typename> class Policy = default_policy > struct policy_based : Policy<T, policy_based<T,Policy> > { // inherits R Policy::fun(arg0, arg1, arg2,...,argn) }; // normal use: policy_base<type_a> instance; // abnormal use: template < typename PolicyBased > // No T since T is always the same when you use this struct custom_policy {}; policy_base<type_b,custom_policy> instance; The deal is that for many abnormal uses the Policy will be based on one single type T, and can't really be parameterized on T so it makes no sense to take T as a parameter. For other uses, including the default, a Policy can make sense with any T. I have a couple ideas but none of them are really favorites. I thought that I had a better answer--using composition instead of policies--but then I realized I have this case where fun() actually needs extra information that the class itself won't have. This is like the third time I've refactored this silly construct and I've got quite a few custom versions of it around that I'm trying to consolidate. I'd like to get something nailed down this time rather than just fish around and hope it works this time. So I'm just fishing for ideas right now hoping that someone has something I'll be so impressed by that I'll switch deities. Anyone have a good idea? Edit: You might be asking yourself why I don't just retrieve T from the definition of policy based in the template for default_policy. The reason is that default_policy is actually specialized for some types T. Since asking the question I have come up with something that may be what I need, which will follow, but I could still use some other ideas. template < typename T > struct default_policy; template < typename T, template < typename > class Policy = default_policy > struct test : Policy<test<T,Policy>> {}; template < typename T > struct default_policy< test<T, default_policy> > { void f() {} }; template < > struct default_policy< test<int, default_policy> > { void f(int) {} }; Edit: Still messing with it. I wasn't too fond of the above since it makes default_policy permanently coupled with "test" and so couldn't be reused in some other method, such as with multiple templates as suggested below. It also doesn't scale at all and requires a list of parameters at least as long as "test" has.   • Which function pair in QString to use for converting to/from std::string?

    I'm working on a project that we want to use Unicode and could end up in countries like Japan, etc... We want to use std::string for the underlying type that holds string data in the data layer (see Qt, MSVC, and /Zc:wchar_t- == I want to blow up the world as to why). The problem is that I'm not completely sure which function pair (to/from) to use for this and be sure we're 100% compatible with anything the user might enter in the Qt layer. A look at to/fromStdString indicates that I'd have to use setCodecForCStrings. The documentation for that function though indicates that I wouldn't want to do this for things like Japanese. This is the set that I'd LIKE to use though. Does someone know enough to explain how I'd set this up if it's possible? The other option that looks like I could be pretty sure of it working is the to/fromUTF8 functions. Those would require a two step approach though so I'd prefer the other if possible. Is there anything I've missed?

  • NSDirectoryEnumerator And Subfolders

    I have an iPhone app that searches a folder, collates an an array of all the audio files, and lets them be played back. The problem is that if there is a subfolder within the folder I am searching, it will just skip over it/not go into its contents.   • How can I quickly sum all numbers in a file?

    I have a file which contains several thousand numbers, each on it's own line: 34 42 11 6 2 99 ... I'm looking to write a script which will print the sum of all numbers in the file. I've got a solution, but it's not very efficient. (It takes several minutes to run.) I'm looking for a more efficient solution. Any suggestions?
