• SVN Backup using rsync command

  Hi, I setup a cron for taking backup of my SVN repo( 8 GB) to another server. But some times I get errors and I feel that this is not the proper way to back an svn to a remote server. I used the command rsync -avz myrepo. Please suggest me a good way to do svn backup to a remote server. I cannot zip the files and transfer it daily since it's 7 GB. Thanks

• Compiled git from source, cannot access subversion repositories using git-svn

  I'm setting up a CentOS dev box, and need git. At first I tried to install git using yum, but I could not connect to a yum repository that had git. Next I downloaded the git source (version 1.7.1) and compiled it. When I run the following command git svn clone svn+ssh://... I get the following error.   I am trying to setup Continuous Integration in our office. Being a puny little developer I am facing this supposedly infamous problem: " Source control operation failed: svn: OPTIONS of 'https://trunkURL': Server certificate verification failed: issuer is not trusted" So I tried the following solution - Run CC.NET service (server running as win service) using a domain account (rather than default LOCAL SYSTEMS) and accept cert permanently using command prompt under that user by using svn log/list on the repo. Doesn't help :(. I tried with different machine but I obtained every time time the same error: svn: OPTIONS of 'http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/trunk': could not connect to server (http://svn.macports.org) I can't understand the problem, the address is http so I think that is a problem of subversion with http address (the repository is the one for Macport for MAC OS but I think that the problem is not about the repository but is a subversion problem)

  I have hosted my repository in assebbla & it works fine. now I want to write a script that can automate the build process : 1. Take the code from assembla repository 2. Make a dump and copy it onto my web server. what I have researched from net states that use of commands like svn co svn+ssh://[email protected]/home/svn/test I believe I need to open Shell on my server and type these commands but shell has been disabled from my server admin. I tried to run the same from php using exec , admin has disabled that too. (am using shared hosting and want to do a automated deployment using these simple steps. i don't want to bring my local system in this process) now am not sure even if I get the shell access open to my server these commands like svn will work there as I don't have SVN installed on my server (its installed on assembla). kindly let me know if any more explanation is required regarding the same or if am going on the wrong track.   I would like to be able to pull changes on a remote server from an SVN server on a local development box. The SVN port is closed to the WAN but available via our LAN and we have a VPN setup locally. Is it difficult to setup the remote server to use VPN to connect to the remote SVN server and update code?   im using netbeans for svn. i open a project in netbeans and then i import it to a svn repo. it seems that although im only importing the project folder, svn creates .svn folders in all folders within this project folder. why is that? i thought that i was only creating .svn folders to checked out projects, not imported ones? now this folder acts very weird, when i open this folder as a project in netbeans, netbeans treats it like a svn folder some way. is this normal? cause i want this one to not be under SVN.

But, when I try to "add a new SVN repository", I input this, for example: http://svn.python.org/projects/peps/trunk I get this: Error validating location: "org.tigris.subversion.javahl.ClientException: RA layer request failed svn: OPTIONS of 'http://svn.python.org/projects/peps/trunk': could not connect to server (http://svn.python.org) " Keep location anyway? I know that my eclipse can connect to the 'net because I downloaded subclipse earlier (I had to change my proxy settings). I get a similar message for other SVN locations I've tried to add. Anyone have any solutions?

  I'm in a position where I'm the only one using git, everybody else is using svn. I've used 'git svn' to connect to the team svn and mostly it works just fine. Lately, I've started a project initially on my own, separate git repo and now I need to merge stuff from it to the svn. However, I still would like to keep tweaking the implementation in my own privacy between releases. So, what would be the most straightforward way to cherry-pick some commits from my private repo to the svn-cloned repo? Requirement is to keep full local history and have only one svn commit for each pick. Or is there some squashing to be done? As a method to achieve this, is there a way to get the private repo as another origin for the svn-cloned repo?

• How can I setup a svn subdomain so I can checkin/out without using svn+ssh?

  I have a svn repository on my hosting account at ~/repository/. At the moment I have to create ssh keys to my server for users to checkin/out from the repository using a command like "svn+ssh://domain.com/project1/trunk". This is fine when there were 2 of us using the repository but now I have other people that might be doing work on the server that I cannot fully trust, hence I cannot give them ssh keys as then they will have access to my entire server. I would like to setup access to my svn repository via a subdomain e.g. svn.domain.com, so that users can checkin/out from this location using a command like: "svn co http://svn.domain.com/project1/trunk" - without using ssh. Can this be done and how? This should also help me solve my other issue of managing which users have access to which svn projects. Thanks for any help in advance!

• svn stat says folder uncontrolled, but won't let me svn add it!

  Hi, Running into a weird problem with svm. I do svn stat in my controlled directory, lists something like: ? myproject/foo ? myproject/zoo so I do: svn add myproject/zoo and then I get this message back: svn: warning: 'myproject/zoo' is already under version control I don't get it, why is it showing it as uncontrolled then? I tried running svn cleanup, svn update, nothing though. I am also looking at my svn project in tracker, and I don't see the /zoo folder as present. What can I do to convince svn it's not really added? Thanks

  Hi, I have started to use git-svn for some of my work to be able to do local commits. This works great for projects that use standard svn layout. Recently I started working on a Java project that is split into multiple connected modules (20-25), and each module have its own root folder in the same svn repo with its own trunk/branches/tags. svnrepo/ module-1 trunk branches tags module-N trunk branches tags I have cloned each and every module with git svn clone -s /path/to/svnrepo/module[1-N]. The "problem" is that when I want to do git svn rebase on all modules i have to do it N times. I have tried to do git svn clone /path/to/svnrepo/ do avoid doing the rebase operation N times, but that leaves me with a directory layout that is the same as in the svn repo. Is there a way that I can track all the trunks of all modules in one git repo? So that I get a directory layout like this within my git repository: module-1 module-2 module-N

  We're a heavy user of SVN here. While the advantages of GIT over SVN made us want to change, the advantages of Hg over SVN mean it's now time to change and we need to start doing so very soon. I'm not so worried on the client side, but here are my questions. There are some excellent books on setting file metaproperties, properly organizing projects, etc on SVN. What is that book(s) for Hg? Is there a way to convert an SVN repository (that you've used) and can report how well it went? We don't want to lose years of commit logs if possible. When you DO convert, how did you split up the old code? Did you commit trunk as one project, and tags/forks as another? If you used SVN for legacy work, did you check in updates to SVN or something else?

  I need to allow access to an svn repository using email addresses as the user name. I can log in to the server over ssh no problem by changing the email address "@" to a "$" like so: ssh [email protected] Unfortunately, the same does not work for svn+ssh. This gets me nowhere: svn ls svn+ssh://[email protected]/home/accountname/data/svn/repos Anyone know how this is usually done?
