An issue on object orientation in php

So the question is what would be the proper way to chance my username and password through the objects interface and then call twitterDisplay() method with the new data?Hope that makes sense. Console.WriteLine(b.a.y); } When I run the above program, it does not give me any errors, although I did not initialize struct A in class B constructor..'a=new A();'

Having a simple Python class like this: class Spam(object): __init__(self, description, value): self.description = description self.value = value Which is the correct approach to check these constraints: "description cannot be empty" "value must be greater than zero" Should i: 1.validate data before creating spam object ? 2.check data on __init__ method ? 3.create an is_valid method on Spam class and call it with spam.isValid() ? 4.create an is_valid static method on Spam class and call it with Spam.isValid(description, value) ? 5.check data on setters declaration ? 6.... Could you recommend a well designed\Pythonic\not verbose (on class with many attributes)\elegant approach?

Passing class method as selector problem.

Hi, I want to build a selector from a class method. I'm doing it this way: NavigationTreeActionHandler* handler=[NavigationTreeActionHandler self]; NavigationTreeNode* bombsNode=new NavigationTreeNode("Bombs","bigbomb.tif" ,handler,@selector(BigBombButtonPressed:)); I need to pass to NavigationTreeNode the target and the selector to the target method. I try to get the target using the self property of the class object (Don't know if htis is the correct way to do it). Then I get the selector for the class method I want to call on the class. Everything compiles ok but it fails when I use: [[handler class] instanceMethodSignatureForSelector:selector]; I get a nil and don't really know why... could anybody help please? Getting an error when trying to set a ForeignKeyAttribute in a base class class User{} abstract class FruitBase{ [ForeignKey("CreateById")] public User CreateBy{ get; set; } public int CreateById{ get; set; } } class Banana{} class DataContext : DbContext{ DbSet<Banana> Bananas{ get; set; } } If I move the FruitBase code into the banana, all is well, but I don't want to, as there will be many many fruit and I want to remain relatively DRY if I can Is this a know issue that will be fixed by March? Does anyone know a work around?

Hi All, I have problem implementing the operator!= in a set class deriving from an abstact one. The code looks like this: class Abstract { public: //to make the syntax easier let's use a raw pointer virtual bool operator!=(const Abstract* other) = 0; }; class Implementation { SomeObject impl_; //that already implement the operator!= public: bool operator!=(const Abstract* other) { return dynamic_cast<Implementation*>(other)->impl_ != this->impl_; } }; This code works but it has the drawback to use dynamic_cast and I need to handle error in casting operation. This is a generic problem that occur when a function of a concrete class it is trying to using some internal information (not available at the abstract class level) to perform a task. Is there any better way to solve this kind of problem? Cheers

Which class will be instanciated

Say I have 2 subclasses from UIViewController, class A and class B. In Main nib file an object is representing class A and it is set to load file from Secondary nib file. The owner of Secondary nib is of class B. The question is - from which class an object in Main nib file will be instanciated once the nib files unarchived in the memory? The reason this question arised is that I have to take care myself if such reference to external NIB file present, to ensure that the first nib's object and second nib's owner is same. Please correct me if my statement is wrong.

What's the best way to create a static utility class in python? Is using metaclasses code smell?

Ok so I need to create a bunch of utility classes in python. Normally I would just use a simple module for this but I need to be able to inherit in order to share common code between them. The common code needs to reference the state of the module using it so simple imports wouldn't work well. I don't like singletons, and classes that use the classmethod decorator do not have proper support for python properties. One pattern I see used a lot is creating an internal python class prefixed with an underscore and creating a single instance which is then explicitly imported or set as the module itself. This is also used by fabric to create a common environment object (fabric.api.env). I've realized another way to accomplish this would be with metaclasses. Second, sub-classing MetaFoo in a different module wouldn't be as awkward because I wouldn't be importing a class with an underscore which is inherently going against its private naming convention. Third, this seems to be the closest approximation to a static class that exists in python, as all the meta code applies only to the class and not to its instances. This is shown by the common convention of using cls instead of self in the class methods. As well, the base class inherits from type instead of object which would prevent users from trying to use it as a base for other non-static classes. It's implementation as a static class is also apparent when using it by the naming convention Foo, as opposed to foo, which denotes a static class method is being used. As much as I think this is a good fit, I feel that others might feel its not pythonic because its not a sanctioned use for metaclasses which should be avoided 99% of the time. I also find most python devs tend to shy away from metaclasses which might affect code reuse/maintainability. Is this code considered code smell in the python community? I ask because I'm creating a pypi package, and would like to do everything I can to increase adoption.

help fixing pagination class

It appears that when I submit the form the file is not sent and I am unsure as to why? I have also been unsuccessful in finding an example online where a file upload is used in conjunction with other input types. Another query I have is that for Create, and Edit operations I have used a PartialView for my forms to make my application have higher code reuse. The form action is normally generated by just using: Html.BeginForm() And this populates the action depending on which Url is being used Edit or Create. However when populating HTML attributes you have to provide a action and controller value to pass HTML attributes. using (Html.BeginForm("Create", "Problem", FormMethod.Post, new { id = "ProblemForm", enctype = "multipart/form-data" })) Is it possible to somehow populate the action and controller value depending on the URL to maintain code reuse? Thinking about it whilst typing this I could set two values in the original controller action request view data and then just populate the value using the viewdata values? If you want some in your book, you check them: </p> <form> <ul> <li> <input type="checkbox" id="prologue" /> <label for="prologue">prologue</label> </li> <li> <input type="checkbox" id="chapter" /> <label for="chapter">chapter</label> </li> <li> <input type="checkbox" id="summary" /> <label for="summary">summary</label> </li> <li> <input type="checkbox" id="etc" /> <label for="etc">etc</label> <label> </li> </ul> </form> <p id="summary"> For each checkbox, I want to assign an ID so that clicking a label checks the corresponding checkbox. The problems occur when other elements in the page already use those IDs. In this case, a CSS declaration was made to add margins to the two paragraphs which IDs are "prologue" and "summary", but because of the IDs given to the checkboxes, the checkboxes named "prologue" and "summary" are also affected by this declaration. The following links simply call a javascript function which writes out the element whose id is <a href="javascript:alert(document.getElementById('prologue'));">prologue</a> and <a href="javascript:alert(document.getElementById('summary'));">summary</a>, respectively. In the first case (prologue), the script writes out [object HTMLParagraphElement], because the first element found with id "prologue" is a paragraph. But in the second case (summary), the script writes out [object HTMLInputElement] because the first element found with id "summary" is an input. In the case of another script, the consequences of this mix up could have been much more dramatic. Now try clicking on the label prologue in the list above. It does not check the checkbox as clicking on any other label. This is because it finds the paragraph whose ID is also "prologue" and tries to check that instead. By the way, if there were another checkbox whose id was "prologue", then clicking on the label would check the one which appears first in the code. </p> <p> An easy fix for this would be to chose other IDs for the checkboxes, but this doesn't apply if these IDs are given dynamically, by a php script for example. Another easy fix for this would be to write labels like this: <pre> <label><input type="checkbox" />prologue</label> </pre> and not need to give an ID to the checkboxes. But this only works if the label and checkbox are next to each other. </p> <p> Well, that's the problem. I guess the ideal solution would be to link a label to a checkboxe using another mechanism (not using ID). I think the perfect way to do this would be to match a label to the input element whose NAME (not ID) is the same as the label's FOR attribute. What do you think? </p> </body> </html>

This is the method to store a single attribute: $this->getUser()->setAttribute('something', $something); And the documentation says: "User attributes can store any type of data (strings, arrays, and associative arrays)" ... but doesn't say anything more. The API documentation doesn't have a "SetAttributes" or something similarly obvious. Thank you.

Why can one null return be tested but another throws an exception?

How do I get a PHP class constructor to call its parent's parent's constructor

It's certainly not the best approach nor is it OOP friendly, but that's not what the question was asking. For anyone coming across this question at a later date - Please find another solution. I was able to find a much better approach that didn't wreak havoc on the class structure. So should you.
