• Finding Telecommuting Opportunities as a Recent College Graduate

  Reading the answers to hiring practices of remote vs. local employees and freelance programming sites, I would like to add this question to the mix. I am a recent college graduate from an electrical engineering background with 2 years worth of work terms in programming (C, C++, VBA, Matlab, etc.) while I was still in school. While I am interested in learning other software tools (such as Python, Ruby on Rails, Javascript, etc.), I want to use the tools I have now in a telecommuting role while I grow my toolset. Despite having 2 years of work experience (and I've lost track of when I have started programming), my status as a recent college graduate may be an obstacle of my credibility to compete for telecommuting (or in fact any) programming opportunities. I don't know how I can go about finding telecommute programming opportunities for someone with my situation. Overall, many of previous places I've worked at liked my work. What are your suggestions? However, when starting to work on anything bigger than a small (think 1 C source file or Python module) program, there are some general concepts which become much more important when working on "big" (think many Python modules or C files) programs; one example is modularity, another is having a set aim. This became a bit fo a catchphrase amongst my high school mates. Well folks, I am developing my technuique. I am beginning to learn coding for Unity 3D. Which one do you suggest is more versatile and easier to work on for future, because I am a game designer not a coder, I would do coding until I don't have anyone else to code for me. It should be easy and fast to learn, functional and universal to apply, and innovative at the same time. C# or JavaScript ? • How should a new programmers behave at their first job? [on hold]

  What are programmers expected to know at their first job and how old will they typically be? I'm not going to school so I'm not around other programmers, therefore I have no idea what kind of programmers they are when they first get hired. I just want to get an idea what the median programmer's knowledge looks like. Will they already have had experience with version control? Are they writing good maintainable code? And what are they expected to do do? I'm programming my own software at home and because of the complexities of it and how new I am to programming I'm sometimes throwing all the code out and starting again with a better design. Aren't new programmers going to write terribly structured software for their employer, or is someone else going to be making the decisions on how everything is laid out?

• Ivy bridge i3 recognized as Xeon e3-1200

  The situation: I've got a Ivy bridge i3 3225 which is being recognized as a Xeon e3-1200 series cpu by Ubuntu 14.04 64bit. The problem: cpu fan makes more noise than necessary (under dual-boot Win8 the fans are off), cannot install the intel graphics drivers from 01.org. Goals: - find a fix for the load fans could be they are not CPU related, I've tried some fan controller packages, but they made no difference. - get the intel graphics to install (this now fails as xeon cpu's are not supported, I got the package working on a i5 laptop) - get to know some more about how hardware recognition works Tried so far: - a reinstall of Ubuntu, but it was recognized again as a Xeon cpu. - different fan control packages, but they either do not recognized the fans, or just keep fan speed to high. • At $20/month Windows Azure host my website with 99.97% uptime

  Couple of years ago a reliable and decent performing Windows hosting was not affordable to many enthusiastic developers who want to try a startup idea or build a hobby site. I tried to start an ASP.NET website few years ago to provide services like – Mobile Tracing, Vehicle Tracing. • Question about Partitioning

  I am looking to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10. I have been using windows for work and school for over a year, and have about 100 gig of stored files (backed up of course) and some paid programs. Because of this, I really want my partitioning experience to go well. Unfortunately, I am running into a bit of an anomoly When I load GPart, I see that my sda drive is unallocated http://i.imgur.com/Hi2XhIr.png Whereas my sdb appears to contain all of the windows files and partitions, and make up my C: drive http://i.imgur.com/aaCOXje.png Is this going to be an issue, as all literature on dual boot installation references sda? • Ubuntu 12.10 graphics does not work properly

  My graphic on ubuntu 12.10 does not work as well as on 12.04. After upgrade I installed driver sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current for my Nvidia 450 GTS graphics card. But sometimes I see slight lag on my videos played in VLC player, some of desktop and window effects are lagging, sometimes I can see an indescribable souce of pixels on my screen at the start of ubuntu and so on. I feel difference between 12.04 and 12.10 in favour of former version.   After I've installed some language packs and spell checking dictionaries (I'd like to use with Firefox and OpenOffice) I've got tons of language variations installed. This makes very inconvenient to maintain dictionary additions, for example. Sometimes Firefox decides to switch to Australian, sometimes to UK dictionary, sometimes to US, etc. For me, a Russian, English is just English, and German is just German. I think every English-speaking will understand me, may I write "color" or "colour", "dialog", or "dialogue" (I usually prefer classic UK spelling though, as a matter of a habit (as I was taught at school)). How to remove all those dialects?
