• Ruby - Nokogiri - Need to put node.value to an array

  What I'm trying to do is read the value for all the nodes in this XML and put them into an array. This should be simple but for some reason it's driving me nuts. • StringBufferInputStream Question in Java

  I want to read an input string and return it as a UTF8 encoded string. SO I found an example on the Oracle/Sun website that used FileInputStream. I didn't want to read a file, but a string, so I changed it to StringBufferInputStream and used the code below. The method parameter jtext, is some Japanese text. Actually this method works great. The question is about the deprecated code. I had to put @SuppressWarnings because StringBufferInputStream is deprecated. I want to know is there a better way to get a string input stream? Is it ok just to leave it as is? • Testing paginated UIScrollView on iPad

  I'm creating a magazine reader (something like iGizmo on iPad). I have two scrollviews one that paginate over articles and second to paginate inside of an article through pages. I'd like to check memory usage of my app after scrolling through 20 pages. To do so I decided to create an automated ui test that scrolls 20 times right and the check the memory foot print at the end of the test. I need that info to have some metrics before I start optimizing the memory usage And Here is the thing: I can't make the ui automation to pass to the second page. My automation code looks like that: var window = UIATarget.localTarget().frontMostApp().mainWindow(); var articleScrollView = window.scrollViews()[0]; articleScrollView.scrollRight(); // do you know any command to wait until first scrolls ends? articleScrollView.scrollRight(); // this one doesn't work I guess that I need to wait for the first scorlling to end before I can run another one, but I don't know how to do that as each page is just an image. However, he does not give a working example of this (in the example that he uses data is loaded into a form through a file called data.php).   I have a method for reading JSON from a service, I'm using Gson to do my serialization and have written the following method using type parameters. public T getDeserializedJSON(Class<T> aClass,String url) { Reader r = getJSONDataAsReader(url); Gson gson = new Gson(); return gson.fromJson(r, aClass); } I'm consuming json which returns just an array of a type e.g. [ { "prop":"value" } { "prop":"value" } ] I have a java class which maps to this object let's call it MyClass. However to use my method I need to do this: RestClient<ArrayList<MyClass>> restClient = new RestClient<ArrayList<MyClass>>(); ArrayList<MyClass> results = restClient.getDeserializedJSON(ArrayList<MyClass>.class, url); However, I can't figure out the syntax to do it. Passing just ArrayList.class doesn't work. So is there a way I can get rid of the Class parameter or how do I get the class of the ArrayList of MyClass?

  Hi all. Long time reader, first time writer. Quick query i hope someone can help me with. I have a webpage (php, javascript) which has a small contact form for a user to fill in and email us. Not a problem in itself, i have a working form already. Nothing noteworthy, just a form posting to a php page which sends an email. <form id="myform" name="myform" method="post" action="Mailer.php"> So user fills in form, hits submit and the page changes to mailer.php and they find their way back to where they were. What I want instead is for the to stay on the same page when submit is pushed. The form div to update itself to just say 'message sent' or something. I just want to avoid a full page refresh. Much like how on say facebook, commenting on a status only updates that div. Hope that is phrased clearly enough. Cheers all,

  I'm writing a pdf reader iPhone application. I know how to show pdf file in view using CGPDF** classes in iOS. What I want to do now is to search text in pdf file, and highlight the searched text. So, I need a library which can detect what text is in what position. Besides, I want the library able to handle unicode and Chinese characters. I've searched for a few days but still cannot find anything suitable. I've tried xpdf, but it is written in c++. I don't know how to use c++ code in iPhone app. I've also tried http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cpp/ExtractPDFText.aspx but it does not handle Chinese characters. I've tried to code by myself, but the encoding in PDF is really complicated. • Java/Python: Integration, problem with looping updating text

  Hello! Basically I have a script in Python that grabs the text from an open window using getWindowText() and outputs it to the screen. The python loops so as the text in the window changes, it outputs the changes, so the output of the python will always be up to date with the window text. I'm trying to access this text in my Java program by executing the python script as a process and reading the text it outputs using a buffered reader. For some reason this works fine for the first block of text, but will not read any more after this, it wont read any updates to the text as the python outputs it. Can someone shed some light on this? • Trouble with go tour crawler exercise

  I'm going through the go tour and I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the language except for concurrency. On slide 71 there is an exercise that asks the reader to parallelize a web crawler (and to make it not cover repeats but I haven't gotten there yet.) If I put a defer close(ch) somewhere in the Crawl method, then I end up writing to a closed channel in one of the spawned goroutines, since the method will finish execution before the spawned goroutines do. If I omit the call to close(ch), as is shown in my example code, the program deadlocks after all the goroutines finish executing but the main thread is still waiting on the channel in the for loop since the channel was never closed.

• Ruby & ActiveRecord: referring to integer fields by (uniquely mapped) strings

  While its not my application a simple way to explain my problem is to assume I'm running a URL shortener. Rather than attempt to try and figure out what the next string I should use as the unique section of the URL, I just index all my URLs by integer and map the numbers to strings behind the scenes, essentially just changing the base of the number to, let's say, 62: a-z + A-Z + 0-9. In ActiveRecord I can easily alter the reader for the url_id field so that it returns my base 62 string instead of the number being stored in the database: class Short < ActiveRecord::Base def url_id i = read_attribute(:convo) return '0' if i == 0 s = '' while i > 0 s << CHARS[i.modulo(62)] i /= 62 end s end end but is there a way to tell ActiveRecord to accept Short.find(:first,:conditions=>{:url_id=>'Ab7'}), ie. putting the 'decoding' logic into my Short ActiveRecord class? I guess I could define my own def self.find_by_unique_string(string), but that feels like cheating somehow! Thanks!

• Save a tab in a jQuery Modal Window for future Display

  Hello, long time reader, first time poster. I’m coming with an issue that many of you will find trivial but I’m bashing my head against it for too long time and I can’t seems to find any clue on the internet. As a total scrubs with JavaScript, I’m trying to use JQuery.ui smartmodal windows (v 1.8.rc1) for displaying two football teams in two separate tabs. Like France in Tab(0) and England in Tab(1). When I open this modal window, the first tab (France) is always opened by default. Everything’s fine until here : I’m trying to improve this modal window by remembering what was the last Tab the user was looking when he closed the modal, for reopening it (in spite of the first tab, by default) when the user will reopen this modal latter on. I’ve already tried to use the “selecting & loading a jquery tab programatically » method but without any kind of success, and I’m slowly running out of options (and time). Thanks for reading me, if you have any idea on how can I use a parameter in the smartmodal call, that would greatly help me.

  I am developing a ebook reader app. I have the .ePUB file for the entire ebook where in each topic of the ebook is a html file. I want to implement the search functionality in the app. I am using NSRegularExpression class for searching. Please consider the following html code: <temp> I am temp in tempo with temptation </temp> Say for example in the above html code I just want to search for the word temp. Now in above code temp is appearing 5 times - <temp> </temp> temp tempo temptation. I am looking for a regular expression where I can only extract the whole word "temp". I don't want to consider the word temp in the html tags <temp> </temp>. I also don't want the word tempo and temptation to be considered. Thanks in advance

• Problem reading in file written with xdr using c

  I am using Ubuntu 10.4 and have two (long) C programs, one that writes a file using XDR, and one that uses this file as input. However, the second program does not manage to read in the written file. Everything looks perfectly fine, it just does not work. More spesifically it fails at the last line added here with the error message xdr_string(), which indicates that it can not read in the first line of the input file. I do no see any obvious errors. The input file is written out, have a content and I can see the right strings using stings -a -n 2 "inputfile". Anyone have any idea what is going wrong?   I am new to programming and come from a non-CS background (no formal degree). I mostly program winforms using C#. I am confused about 32 bit and 64 bit.... I mean, have heard about 32 bit OS, 32 bit processor and based on which a program can have maximum memory. How it affects the speed of a program. There are lot more questions which keep coming to mind. I tried to go through some Computer Organization and Architecture books. But, either I am too dumb to understand what is written in there or the writers assume that the reader has some CS background. Can someone explain me these things in a plain simple English or point me to something which does that. EDIT: I have read things like In 32-bit mode, they can access up to 4GB memory; in 64-bit mode, they can access much much more....I want to know WHY to all such things. • Saving information in the IO System

  Hi Kernel Gurus, I need to write a kernel module that simulate a "multicaster" Using the /proc file system. Basically it need to support the following scenarios: 1) allow one write access to the /proc file and many read accesses to the /proc file. 2) The module should have a buffer of the contents last successful write. Each write should be matched by a read from all reader. Consider scenario 2, a writer wrote something and there are two readers (A and B), A read the content of the buffer, and then A tried to read again, in this case it should go into a wait_queue and wait for the next message, it should not get the same buffer again. I need to keep a map of all the pid's that already read the current buffer, and in case they try to read again and the buffer was not changed, they should be blocked until there is a new buffer. I'm trying to figure it there is a way i can save that info without a map. I heard there are some redundant fields inside the I/O system the I can use to flag a process if it already read the current buffer. Can someone give me a tip where should i look for that field ? how can i save info on the current process without keeping a "map" of pid's and buffers ? Thanks!

• why i change the alpha value of UIImageView but no effect?

  I am working on a reader app. when you read one magazine, it will display first five pages and download the rest pages one by one. there is a scrollview to view the thumbnail image of pages. At the beginning, if the page needs downloading, the corresponding thumbnail view's alpha value is set to 0.5. when the page is downloaded, i will update the thumbnail view's value to 1.0. I use one operation to download the page, and when one is downloaded i use delegate to set thumbnail view's alpha. But when i update thumbnail view's alpha value, it still the same as the beginning. it seems the alpha has no effect.   Hi, I'm writing a kernel module that reads from a /proc file. When someone writes into the /proc file the reader will read it, but if it reads again while there is no "new" write, it should be blocked. In order to remember if we already read, i need to keep a map of the latest buffer that process read. To avoid that, I was told that there might be some redundant field inside the current- (task_struct struct) that i can use to my benefits in order to save some states on the current process. How can I find such fields ? and how can i avoid them being overwritten ? I read somewhere that i can use the offset field inside the struct in order to save my information there and i need to block lseek operations so that field will stay untouched. How can I do so ? and where is that offset field, i can't find it inside the task_Struct. Thanks and I need to save for each process some information in order to map it against other information. I've tried putting takePicture in a timer and running it a few seconds after camera initialization to check for race conditions, but no change. Just calling Camera.open() doesn't cause the crash. Also, calling Camera.open() causes what I think is the autofocus motor to make a sort of ticking sound.   I'm looking for a tool which would be able to capture a screen region, pass it to OCR and put the result into clipboard. "import ppm:- | gocr -i - | xclip -selection c" works, but gocr is unreliable: simple text on a webpage has errors. It is a clear font but the OCR tool always misses "r" and replaces it with underscore. "import ppm:- | ocrad -i - | xclip -selection c" says "ocrad: maxval 255 in ppm "P6" file." tesseract needs an image file and does not accept piping input to it. xfce4-screenshooter does not do OCR. ABBYY Screenshot Reader is proprietary. tessnet2 is freeware running on a proprietary platform. Google Docs can OCR screenshots in a batch. But my data is confidential and better not put online. • [android] MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault

  Folks, I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. I've tried all variations, including 3gpp and H.263 and reducing the video resolution to 320x240. What am I missing? The state machine causes 4 MediaPlayer beeps and then turns on the video camera. Here's the pertinent source: UPDATE: ADDING SURFACE CREATE INFO I have rebooted the device based on previous answer to similar question. UPDATE 2: I seem to be following the MediaRecorder state machine perfectly, and if I trap out the MR code, the blank surface displays perfectly and everything else functions perfectly. I can record videos manually and play back via MediaPlayer in my code, so there should be nothing wrong with the underlying code. I've copied sample code on the surface and surfaceHolder code. I've looked at the MR instance in the Debug perspective in Eclipse and see that all (known) variables seem to be instantiated correctly.
