• Create a super user in MySQL 5.5 not working: Permission denied for root@localhost

  Using CentOS 6, logged in to MySQL as root, entering the command: create user 'user123' identified by 'pass123'; works fine. But when I try and give that user super user privileges with: grant all on *.* to 'user123' identified by 'pass123'; I get the error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Then select * from mysql.user; shows that root has Y in all columns, so should have all privileges. I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me find why root is unable to grant privileges as I can't see why it wouldn't be working. Thanks

• Is it possible to re-create the Windows 8.1 install image after the upgrade

  I have downloaded and installed the Windows 8.1 upgrade from the Windows store. The hardware was a 64-bit Toshiba P50 laptop. I need to upgrade a second P50 and wish to do so without another 3.6Gb download (I tried the instructions here but never got the chance to create the installation media, nor was I asked for a product key). I saw mention on superuser of creating USB rescue media after installation and using that to clone the upgrade onto another machine. Is this likely to be a viable option?

  Hi, I have 2 machines. Both running CentOS. Box1 is webserver with apache, php. Box2 is mysql, and file storage. The files will only be accessible from Box1 within the webapp. I'd like to somehow create a symlink or somesuch on box1 to a folder on box2 where uploaded files can be stored and retrieved. Security in mind, what would be the best way to go about linking these 2 boxes up in a transparent (to apache) way? NB: the boxes are connected directly to each other via a crossover cable; no lan access to box2. Much thanks!

  I installed Ubuntu in a VM using VirtualBox, and after a few hours of Googling all the things I had to install and configure for the rest of the environment, I am finally up and running with a Ruby on Rails IDE and have MySql up and running. After I start up the Ubuntu VM, I have to go to a terminal window and do this to start MySql: /etc/init.d/mysql start So that works fine, but, since I am such a GUI person, I’m wondering how I can create an icon on the Ubuntu Desktop that I can click on to launch this command. Can you tell me how to do that?

  Hi, I was wondering if it's possible. I want to create a virtual network over RAS using Windows Server 2003. The Client should be able to connect to the server using L2TP and should get an IP Adress from a private Range (lets say 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200 and a subnetmask of 255.255.255.0). Now each client connected to the server should be able to ping another connected client. e.g. 192.168.1.123 <- 192.168.1.145 via RAS via the server. Is this possible? • Problem transferring file to FTP server - 503 Could not create file

  I try to transfer a file from SSIS package to a FTP server provided by my client. When I try connecting and transfer using a FTP tool (WinSCP) manually it works fine and file was transferred. But when i use the ftp command in command prompt and try to transfer using "send" command i get an error "553 could not create file". This also happens from SSIS package. I'm not in control of the FTP server but if anyone can provide a solution I can pass it to the admin or anything to be done from my end?

While I've found plenty of resources telling me about how this happens, I haven't seen anything about why it happens. What is the purpose of this step?

  I am planning to use Mercurial in the near future on some projects. These projects will normally reside in a directory on my Windows machine, but I will be sharing these directories using VirtualBox so I can work on them directly from within Linux. I understand that Mercurial will sometimes create hard links when cloning repositories. I'm not sure how a VirtualBox shared directory handles these hard links (or if it even can), so I'd rather just tell Mercurial to never attempt to make hard links and always make a copy. My question: how do I globally disable Mercurial from hard linking? (Although if someone has gotten Mercurial and VirtualBox shared folders to work nicely with hard linking, I'd like to hear about it!)

I see that PC Settings is an executable named SystemSettings.exe, found in C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel. However, creating a shortcut to it doesn't work.   I remember doing this a long time ago and have forgotten how I had done it. I like to do this when I have long html or php files to edit and I need part of the code from further down the file in a place nearer to the top, or when I want to compare different parts of the same file. There was a way to do this without opening two instances of Notepad++ and when I clicked on save, it made the saved changes in both instances of the opened file (whereas if I have 2 windows of Notepad++ opened simultaneously, it will prompt me to either update or not update the second opened instance if the first one was saved midway.)

To make it all I only have a laptop with Dual-Core 2.10Ghz, 3 GB RAM, 50 GB free space and Windows 7 on it. Also I have external USB 3.0 hard-drive with 250GB free space and flash disk with 8GB space. What can you suggest? Because I have limited resources, I think to install ESXi 5.1 on the main disk of my laptop as second OS, with installed Windows 7.   Hi, I need to evacuate 2 Datastores. Now the only things on those 2 datastores are 4 replica / source machines. These are productive ones which means, there are a lot of linked clones linked to these replicas. So there is no way to recompose these ones. If I would unprotect the entity the linked clones wouldn´t work anymore right? Is there a way to move the replicas to another datastore without "killing" the linked clones?

• getJSON not working if the mvc model view controller has a parameter

  I'm having an issue with a callback. I'm not even getting an error in Firebug. If I add a parameter to TestPage(int id) then the call back to LoadMapLonLats doesn't work. Seems odd. Of course TestPage is the page I'm loading so I need to do some work here before rendering the page. Not sure why adding a parameter to the view would break the callback to another function. //this breaks he callback to LoadMapLonLats public ActionResult TestPage(int id) { return View(); } Any ideas? Seems like this may be related, if not sorry I can post a new thread.

I've been searching around for a bit, and I failed to find a way in which I only take the data from the Dataset and put it inside a XML tags, with the tags being defined by an already-existing schema. So it might go like this: 1- Create Dataset and fill its rows with data. 2- Create an XML according to an XML schema rules. 3- Fill said XML file with data from Dataset such that data is taken from the Dataset while structure of the XML file is taken from the XML schema.

  I need to create a bootstrap for my WiX project I've tried using setupbld.exe but it will only allow me to create an executable that will show my UI or one that will behave as a silent installer but not both. I need to be able to run the resulting executable with argument that will tell it wether or not to show the UI during installation. I've found this post by John Robbins that explains how to re-build the setup.exe stub used in the creation of the bootstrap but I was hoping there is a simpler way to do what I need. Does anyone know of a way to create a bootstrap that I use to run either as a simple (with UI) install or as a silent install.

  Alright, so the key here is I'm not using IB at all, because the View I'm working with is created programmatically. The UIView covers the lower half the screen, and has a bunch of buttons on it. However, I want to add more buttons to the UIView, without making it any larger. To do so, I want to make a UIScrollView inside the view, which will allow me to add more buttons off screen so the user can scroll to them. I think that's how it works. self.manaView = [[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; self.manaView.backgroundColor = [UIColor purpleColor]; UIScrollView *scroll = [UIScrollView alloc]; scroll.contentSize = CGSizeMake(320, 400); scroll.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator = YES; [self.manaView addSubview:scroll]; The first part of the code iniates my UIView, which works great, but I can't figure out how to make the UIScrollView programmatically and add it to the view, and then add the buttons to it. • creating a Grails application in IntelliJ IDEA 9.0.x fails to prompt for "create-app"

  When I create a Grails application in IntelliJ 9 on Snow Leopard I am not prompted to create an application. IntelliJ finished the wizard and creates an empty project that is not a Grails application. I have tried two different Apple computers (MacBook Pro and Mac Pro) it does not work on either. The same steps on a Linux system results in a prompt to "create-app" and a Grails application. I have already tried the steps in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/470882/intellij-idea-setup-on-os-x Is there a specific place that Grails needs to be installed? Has anyone else seen this behavior? Thanks

  I'm trying to run the Android MapView example, and am getting a 'Cannot cast from View to MapView' error in Eclipse.
