  Hello, I try to run Mesa gears example and I get following error: freeglut (./gears): Unable to create direct context rendering for window 'Gears' This may hurt performance. though the application runs successfully, but I guess that in future I will have much problems with productivity. I run Linux CentOS 5 on WMvare 7. • Get cryptic error when trying to create a snapshot of any of my VMs

  I'm using Oracle VM VirtualBox. I have 6 VMs that I've imported. When I click on an individual VM, and then click the camera image (or Ctrl+Shift+S) to take a snapshot, the snapshot process fails and VirtualBox gives the following error: Failed to create a snapshot of the virtual machine vmName. Details: Result Code: VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80BB0005) This happens not only for one of my VMs, but all of them, if I try to take a snapshot of each one separately, one at a time. My computer is a Windows 7 machine. I have 200 GB free on my hard drive, and I see no reason why the error should occur. I can import VMs, run them, and clone then without any problems. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix the issue?

I am aware of netsh but I don't think its equivalent, I need to specific the SPI (thats the 2222 above) and this seems impossible. Any ideas or alternatives?! Thanks, Stuart.

• Create a CDROM Bootdisk to update BIOS

  So, I have a Tyan Opteron board with a very old BIOS version. I realize Opteron's aren't exactly common like Athlons, Phenoms, Intel CPUs, etc. but my question revolves around updating the BIOS, however I don't have a floppy drive and there's no option to boot off of a USB key. Tyan has incomplete instructions on their website (link) on how to flash the BIOS via USB. So my second tactic has been to create a Windows 98 boot-able CDROM with the flash utilities on it. It's been years since I've made one but after going to sites like bootdisk.com and such I haven't had any success. Can anyone tell me step-by-step how to make a boot-able Windows 98 CDROM? I can't believe I'm having such a hard time doing this but I've failed on four different attempts and I must be doing something wrong or I'm not accounting for something.

  I'm trying to create a Virtualbox image of windows 8 consumer preview. I tried this tutorial: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-install-windows-8-on-virtualbox/ I did exactly what was said in that tutorial. At the step "Now navigate to the Windows 8 developer build ISO file that you downloaded and select it." I get the error "Could not get the storage format. (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED)". I also get this if I use the regular wizard. Host OS: windows 7 Virtualbox version: 4.1.16 Both windows 8 64 bit and 32 bit tested.

• SCO UNIX problem: "Cannot create /var/adm/utmp or /var/adm/utmpx"

  Hey everyone, I have an old server that doesn't boot. I don't know the version of unix installed, but I see SCO UNIX. I cannot write or press anything. Even CTRL + ALT + DEL does not work. I cannot get into the system. I have tried booting with a DamnSmallLinux LiveCD but it does not recognize the file system on HDA. Is there a way to either log in as root or bypass this error? Thanks.

I have already successfully installed MegaCli to OpenFiler but I'm stuck in figuring out the correct command line for creating a raid 10 array.   I have just installed a fresh MinGW installation on Windows 7 64bit using the Graphical User Interface Installer (the recommended approach) following the instructions given here and keeping the default options (i.e. installation in C:\MinGW) - hopefully without missing any steps or messing things up in any way. However, when running the ssh command, I get the following error: C:\Users\Diablossh username@host Could not create directory '/home/username/.ssh'. The authenticity of host 'username@host (host ip here)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is (fingerprint here). Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes Failed to add the host to the list of known hosts (/home/username/.ssh/known_hosts). So, I basically have to confirm the connection every time. Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

I have noticed that all files newznab needs to create are created under my login user, and not apache default user (www-data). I read here that it's bad security practice to allow www-data to write files. I agree. But as an apache newbie, I would like to know where (in the httpd.conf I suppose ?) the user allowed to write files can be configured, because I want another account to be allowed to write files instead of my main account.

  How to properly create chroot jail (on Ubuntu, or some some other Linux if not applicable) to make user able to edit system settings (eg. with ifconfig) and be able to communicate with external scripts? The use case would be to enable user to authenticate using SSH and then be able to perform very limited set of actions from command line. Unfortunately the tricky part is the access to system settings. I have considered multiple options and the alternative is to setup fake SSH server (eg. with Twisted), try to use restricted shell (however, I seem to need chroot still), or write a script on top of the shell (?).

  Great to find this forum full of knowledge. I was wondering if anyone knew of an application or other work around to create a virtual input device in windows. I have a IP cam app on my android phone, that I would like to use for skype webcam. It comes with a port for getting the video feed into skype, and that works great. However, the only audio available, is a OGG stream. Both video and audio work great with media players such as VLC etc, but ot with skype, since skype only works with windows input devices. Is there such software outthere, in which I could simply name my audio stream address, and pipe that to a virtual input device to allow skype to find it?

  I tried searching the Internet, but could not find a decent tutorial explaining how to create a bootable Ubuntu Linux (10.04) USB installation that could be run not only on a PC but also on Macs and MacBook Pros. In addition, I tried refit, but ended with "Missing operating system" error. Here is basically the layout of my bootable under PC Ubuntu USB drive (using MBR): Partition 1 (ext3, bootable) - Ubuntu Linux 32 bit, contains also grub2 bootloader. Partition 2 (ext3) - Ubuntu Linux 64 bit. Partition 3 (fat32) - contains data. What would be the best way to enable this drive to boot under Mac OS X? And if refit has to be used, could I simply have one more partition on the USB drive containing it? Thanks!

  I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business. Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install. Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files. So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this? I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.

• Using MVC with a retained mode renderer

  I am using a retained mode renderer similar to the display lists in Flash. In other words, I have a scene graph data structure called the Stage to which I add the graphical primitives I would like to see rendered, such as images, animations, text. For simplicity I'll refer to them as Sprites. Now I'm implementing an architecture which is becoming very similar to MVC, but I feel that that instead of having to create View classes, that the sprites already behave pretty much like Views (except for not being explicitly connected to the Model). And since the Model is only changed through the Controller, I could simply update the view together with the Model in the controller, as in the example below: Example 1 class Controller { Model model; Sprite view; void TeleportTo(Vector2 position) { model.Position = view.Position = position; } } The alternative, I think, would be to create View classes that wrap the sprites, make the model observable, and make the view react to changes on the model. This seems like a lot of extra work and boilerplate code, and I'm not seeing the benefits if I'm just going to have one view per controller.   I want to make short timelapse video using ffmpeg under ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I have a folder containing all images with names DSC_0000.jpg DSC_0001.jpg and so on. I found this question ffmpeg: create a video from images and I try to run the same command as mentioned there: ffmpeg -i DSC_%d.jpg -vcodec mpeg4 timelapse.avi and it fails with DSC_%d.jpg: No such file or directory I've also tried ffmpeg -i DSC_%04d.jpg -vcodec mpeg4 timelapse.avi and it fails with the same error And also for some reason my ffmpeg does not understand option -start_number, if I run ffmpeg -start_number 0 -i DSC_%d.jpg -vcodec mpeg4 timelapse.avi I get this error: Unrecognized option 'start_number' Failed to set value '0' for option 'start_number' I would appreciate any help

• How to create an UEFI bootable USB stick from an ISO

  I have an ISO image of my backup solution's recovery cd. When I burn the image to a CD-ROM, I can boot from it in UEFI or normal mode without problems. Unfortunately, this is no solution for my laptop, as it does not have an optical drive. Thus, I tried to create a bootable USB stick that can also boot in UEFI mode, but so far I have not been successful (note that the laptop has UEFI and boots Windows 7 in UEFI mode). So my question is, if anyone knows how I can get said ISO on my USB stick so that it boots as if I would use a CD-ROM?

• Android: Layouts and views or a single full screen custom view?

  I'm developing an Android game, and I'm making it so that it can run on low end devices without GPU, so I'm using the 2D API. I have so far tried to use Android's mechanisms such as layouts and activities where possible, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's not easier to just create a single custom view (or one per activity) and do all the work there. Here's an example of how I currently do things: I'm using a layout to display the game's background as an image view and the square game area, which is a custom view, centered in the middle. What would you say? Should I continue to use layouts where possible or is it more common/reasonable to just use a large custom view? I'm thinking that this would probably also make it easier to port my code to other platforms.
