Does substing a directory affects the performance creating/reading/updating many small files in the substed volume? (will use svn there) If yes, how serious is the "penalty"?
I am trying to clone a repository on my machine that I have just created on GitHub.
I am new to Git, but have been using SVN for a while. I've set up an RSA key as per instructions but am unable to clone with either the SSH or HTTP Urls.
When I use HTTP, I get the following error:
Password: fatal: Out of memory, realloc failed
I'm using Windows 7 with MSysGit (using Bash & PuTTY).
err: /File[/var/lib/puppet/lib]: Failed to generate additional resources using 'eval_generate': Error 400 on SERVER: Not authorized to call search on /file_metadata/plugins with {:ignore=>[".svn", "CVS", ".git"], :recurse=>true, :checksum_type=>"md5", :links=>"manage"}
err: /File[/var/lib/puppet/lib]: Could not evaluate: Error 400 on SERVER: Not authorized to call find on /file_metadata/plugins Could not retrieve file metadata for puppet://example.com/plugins: Error 400 on SERVER: Not authorized to call find on /file_metadata/plugins
What exactly causes this error, and how to fix it?
What free software, preferably open source, will allow me to rotate the output to my widescreen monitor by 90 degrees? I had some software that came with my monitor to do this, called magiv view or something.. but it conflicted with tortoise svn in the context menu so I had to stop using it. Is there anything else that I can use or do?
Hi
I am beginner for SSH stuff but i want to dump a big sql file and for that i need to be able to navigate to the appropriate path in my hosting account. I managed to login to SSH and i typed pwdbut it gave me a shared hosting pathway like /home/content/r/o/s/roshanjonah
How Can i go to the path where i upload my files to...i use FTP but in FTP path it just shows / so i cannot go any further back than that...so using SSH how can i come to this path in ftp...
Thanks
Roshan
I was using Vserver a long time ago. But since the last stable release (2007), BSD jails are offering many more functionalities. It is not clear if Vserver has still a future (still some development on it). have you dump (ou keep) vserver for your production servers ? For which reasons ?
I have some data that is from a Postgres database dump (not csv or anything) and I am looking to get it into MS SQL. Is there an easy way to do this or a free tool that doesn't have limits on data import size etc?
The Postgres is on a Debian VM and I could export it to csv in there but I am new to Linux and don't know how I would transfer it from the VM to Win 7.
Thanks
I have trouble connecting via SSH to a server whenever I am in the office. I get as far as being prompted for my password and then after that there's a long wait which always ends in a
Write failed: Broken pipe
This is only for connecting via SSH. I use svn to commit files to a repository hosted on the same server and there are no hitches.
Furthermore, this only happens in our office. When I go the university or whenever I am at home or at the coffee shop I am able to connect seamlessly. There are no firewalls in our office. It's just a basic wireless router connected to a modem setup. It's the same setup I have at home and I guess the same setup in the coffee shop.
What are the causes for a broken pipe and why does this phenomenon only happen when I try connect via SSH and not when I work with svn on the same server?

UPDATE 2011-14-07: I am able to connect to the server via SSH now. I didn't do anything but that's because there is no one in the office but me! Having said that, is it possible that it has something to do with the number of sessions an SSH server can handle?
UPDATE 2011-14-07: I try to login via SSH through Putty on another machine running windows together with my current SSH session in Ubuntu and now it seems my SSH session in Ubuntu has been dropped. I can't type into the terminal. Is Putty the culprit now?
Is there a way to change the background color in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 when the current folder being displayed meets a certain condition? Or is there a way I can change the icons of the files and folders within that folder so it's distinctive--similar to how Tortoise SVN does it for code checked out from a repository?
Why?
I'd like to do this for a deployment directory on a live server so users don't accidentally commit code to a certain environment. Like myself. :-)
I have a very odd problem that I can't resolve. I am connected to the internet, but my browsing doesn't work. I don't mean a web browser - I mean browsing. Firefox, Chrome, Curl all fail to successfully connect to an HTTP address.
However existing connections, e.g. to mail in Outlook (Exchange Server and also IMAP server) continue to work.
Also, the internet is on, I can confirm both from my machine (other ports / connections) as well as from any other computer connected to the same network.
Additionally, it appears to be HTTP, not simple a port issue as HTTP over port 8443 (Tortoise SVN if you must know - running over HTTP not over SVN) also fails.
I am using Windows Vista SP2 (build 6002). It seems to "creep up" in that after running the computer for a few hours it will fail. (No found way to systematically reproduce the problem.) Additionally, it seems to be more prone on days where the internet connection is flaky already (not sure why the internet is flaky, just is, lot's of failed browsing requests and have to retry/reload often).
What I have tried (when the problem arises) - none have yielded any resolution:
Resetting the network connection (dis-connect, re-connect)
Disable/re-enable the network adapter
Double-checked the ip settings
Double-checked the HOSTS file. Note: DNS continues to work (both new and cached responses to DNS queries). (Thanks for the suggestion Daniel and antenore.)
Checked the routing tables (ip4 only as ipv6 is beyond my understanding)
resetting all involved hardware (routers and modems)
Close and reopen browsers
Looked for malware interference:
Run HijackThis
Looked for suspicious processes using SysInternals procexp.
Looked for explorer hijacks, lsa provider interference, winsock provider interference using SysInternals Autoruns.
Run a complete anti-virus scan.
Reviewed the output of a netstat -onab to see if there were stuck ports open or unusual processes running somewhere
The only thing that works is to do a full reboot. That works 100% of the time to restore browsing.
What else can I try to nail down the problem?
I have a bash script that runs on our shared web host. It does a dump of our mysql database and zips up the output file. Sometimes the mysqldump process gets killed, which leaves an incomplete sql file that still gets zipped. How do I get my script to 'notice' the killing and then delete the output file if the killing occurred?
I can not dump my MySQL-Databeses, however here's the error message:
Cannot load from mysql.proc. The table is probably corrupted
Also mysql_upgrade seems not to work:
# mysql_upgrade
Looking for 'mysql' as: mysql
Looking for 'mysqlcheck' as: mysqlcheck
Running 'mysqlcheck with default connection arguments
mysqlcheck: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when trying to connect
FATAL ERROR: Upgrade failed
What does that mean ?
Hi i want to learn a little about git. I know a decent amount of svn so i understood the tortoiseGit interface. What i dont understand is the pull VS fetch and the push. What is the difference between commit and push? what is pull vs fetch? and what is this stash save and apply?
Currently when I unzip into a directory with pre-existing files, I sometimes unzip an archive to update the files, using -f or -u or -o to overwrite any clashes.
However I would like the unzip process to also delete any files which were not part of the archive, so that the unzipped version fully matches what was in the zipped archive. (Why not just replace the directory then with a fresh unzip? Because I still want to preserve .svn files, just wipe everything else)
Apache is returning rare intermittent 400 "bad request header field is missing ':' olhuaqv3o1t29flvr0 (random string)" errors. This seems to be related to https access and happens from Firefox, IE, Chrome etc. I am using a certificate from rapidssl.
Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) DAV/2 SVN/1.6.6 mod_jk/1.2.28 PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8k
Anyone know how to fix this?
When I try to launch the Plesk administration page of you server I get the following error:
ERROR: PleskMainDBException
MySQL query failed: MySQL server has gone away
The MySQL Server is working well. Although it seems that the plesk database is somehow corrupt and any action on this database results in a restart of the mysql process, so even queries to other databases on the same MySQL server will be lost.
If I try to connect to the plesk database using phpMyAdmin, I can only see the number of tables, the database had originally. But I am not able to open the tables listing. As soon as I try it, the mysql process crashes again.
Trying to connect to the database using ssh works. I can even run a SELECT statement against any table an get a result.
I don't know if it is an plesk error or an error of the psa database or even the MySQL server. Can you give me any tips on how to recover the plesk system. Should I try to repair the Plesk installation before. And if so, how can I do it and will all my settings get lost doing it?
EDIT:
Trying to dump the database, I get the following error:
mysqldump: Got error: 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when using LOCK TABLES
EDIT:
I could find out, that the table 'data_bases' is responsible for the crash of the MySQL server process. But trying to repair it using a REPAIR TABLE statement doesn't work.
EDIT:
I now dropped the whole database and restored it from a dump. But why I try to recover the data_bases table I get the following error:
ERROR 1005 (HY000) at line 24: Can't create table './psa/data_bases.frm' (errno: 121)
I am not able to create the table again. Somewhere in the MySQL system there is still some information about this table. I tested the same thing locally. If I just delete the table files and then try to create the table again I get the same error. If I drop the table through MySQL, I can create the table again afterwards. But trying to drop the table using MySQL the whole MySQL system crashed. Is there any way to solve that issue?
We have developed a custom Windows service in C# as part of a large Enterprise application. Our QA department tests multiple versions of this service.
The QA lab has several (over 20) copies of this service installed on one Windows 2003 test box. Each copy is in its own folder and has a unique service name, though each executable file is named the same (OurWindowsService.exe, for example). Each service uses the same Windows credentials (a domain user).
The purpose of this service is to handle MSMQ messages. The queued messages do all sorts of important stuff.
For some reason, they can run only 5 of these services at a time. When we start a 6th, the service crashes on startup.
For example, I can start #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5. When I start #6, it crashes. However, if I stop #1 and start #6, #6 runs fine, and now #1 fails to start.
When the services crash, the following error appears in the Windows event log:
Faulting application
OurWindowsService.exe, version
5.40.1.1, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.4480,
fault address 0x0000bef7.
I was able to use WinDbg to generate a postmortem dump file. The dump file revealed that the crash occurs trying to delay load SHLWAPI.dll:

I believe the error code handed to Kernel32.RaiseException, c06d007e, means Module Not Found, but I'm not certain.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Are we hitting some limit on the number of service instances on some file name? Does MSMQ dislike more than 5 listening services?
The main question is how do I clear the command prompts memory or cache.
I ran this on cmd.exe
svn info <URL>
Which prompted me a for a username and password which I entered.
I then logged off and logged back in immediately and I entered that same command and I wasn't asked for a username and password. I want to clear this to test something without restarting my server!
How can I do this?

I have started using git for deployment of websites for testing. How do I prevent apache from serving the .git directory contents?
I tried
<Directorymatch "^/.*/\.svn/">
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
</Directorymatch>
with no success.
I know that I can create a .htaccess file in each .git directory and deny access, but I wanted something I could put into the main config file that makes this global across all websites.
Hello
in which location and file does firefox save, the last windows I had opened (when firefox crashed).
I have a complete "hot dump" copy of a file system and need to restore the state firefox was when the system crasehd but I cant not restore the full backupitself. I can only extract the files of firefox, but I do not know in which files i have to search for the urls that were last opened when the snapshop of the whole filesystem was done.
thanks!!!
How can I specify a port for the destination ip? When I do scp -p 0000 it still tries to connect on port 22, not the one I'm specifying.

By default, I fairly certain iTunes does not support this .... but is there a way to burn multiple playlists to one CD? Client does not want to dump playlists into one giant one then burn..he wishes to have the playlists in their original hierarchy one one CD ..
I'm working on a talk that will involve typing code and running it in front of an audience. So I don't screw it up, I'd like to pre-record typing the more complicated bits of the source code and play it back. Most programs I've found that do similar things (like AutoHotKey) dump the text instantaneously as a giant block. Is there any program that will do this and allow me to adjust the play-back speed?
