• Is there an offline version of Smush.it available?

  Sometimes I use Smush.it via the YSlow Firefox plugin to non-destructively reduce the file size of JPG images. Is there an offline version available that runs on Windows? And if not is there an alternative? The reason I'd like an offline version is that I'd like to optimize images before I deploy them. Currently Smush.it accepts only public facing URLs for images or a web page (via YSlow) and can't access my internal network. That means I have to deploy, optimize, replace images and deploy again. I'd really like to deploy the optimized images on the first deploy. Update: Here's a very similar question.

• Find/Replace but Increment Value

  Hello, I have an .HTML file that has many photos attached to it for displaying a photo gallery. I'm replacing old photos with new ones, and I'm thinking there must be a more intelligent way than simply copying and pasting repetitive file names. I would love to be able to replace and increment a file name on each replace, starting at a base file name of my choosing. For example... ...images/69thStreet010.jpg ...images/69thStreet011.jpg ...images/69thStreet012.jpg Basically performing a CTRL+F and REPLACE '69thStreet010.jpg' with... ...images/xyz001.jpg ...images/xyz002.jpg ...images/xyz003.jpg And so on until I want it to stop. • Issue with jQuery ajax post (working with get). error 12031

  hi, UPDATE: I didn't set the response mimetype to 'application/json'. It works now. In the website I'm working on (http://piem.org:8000/) I've got an issue with an ajax post request. Every time the search button is clicked or the google maps 'idle' is triggered I send a request to get some data. While the request works as expected in most cases, it returns an error when I click a result and come back to the search page. (type 'barcelona' in the search box to get the unique restaurant in the db). The server processes the request properly but it seems that the error occurs when the javascript receives it (it returns a "12031" error code). It works properly with FF 3.0.6, IE 8.0 and Chrome 5.0 with GET, and with FF with both POST and GET. Anybody can help? thanks jul

• Checking for & storing multiple CheckBox selections in CSharp.

  I'm very new to CSharp and I can't seem to find a good solution to what I would consider a simple problem. Basically I'm trying to determine which CheckBoxs have been selected by the user and then randomly generate combinations of the selections the user has made. As new as I am, I am aware that you can use a simple statement such as: checkBox1.IsChecked == true I could have a long set of if statements which update an array/collection, but I'm told that in Csharp there is a way of determining which CheckBoxs are checked by querying the GroupBox that the CheckBoxs are in. Unless I'm mistaken (which is very possible) this is achieved by using Control features, unfortunately I've not come across these yet in my learning so if someone could clear things up that would be great. In summation, if someone has a simple solution for running through a set of checkBoxs and storing only the selected ones I would be most grateful.

  So I'm brand new to Netflix's API and have never used an API ever before. I'm ok with Objective-C and Cocoa Touch but just have no clue where to start when accessing the API and how to in general. Can someone help me get started with some code that will access titles in Netflix or just how to access a REST API in general with authentication. Thanks.   I needed to write a script to enter multi-line input to a program (psql) After a big of googling, I found the following syntax works: cat << EOF | psql ---params BEGIN; `pg_dump ----something` update table .... statement ...; END; EOF This correctly concatenates all these strings and passes the result as an input to psql. but I have no idea how/why it works, can some one please explain? I'm referring mainly to cat << EOF, I know > outputs to a file, >> appends to a file, < reads input from file. What does << exactly do? And is there a man page for it?

• Realtime progress of AJAX call (asp.net)

  Hi... I'm trying to make a progress bar that updates the user on the progress of the AJAX call. My immediate thinking was that I need an AJAX call to start a thread on the server, allowing the starting AJAX call to finish, and allowing the thread to send updates back to the user. For the purpose of simplicity, disregard the actual progress bar functionality (I was thinking of implementing one of those JS bars, with fancy colors and effects ;), but if I can get an update from the thread, then updating a simple JS progress bar becomes trivial ;) ) I just need a few pointers on how to accomplish this, if anyone could oblige me? ;)

  I know I'm able to this in PHP, but I can't remember the name or the way to do it, so I'll just explain what it is, and when someone tells me how it's called I'll update this question. I have some error messages defined as constants on javascript, however, some of those messages need to contain dynamic part as in the following example. "The username must be between 4 and 20 characters" In php, If I'm not mistaken there was some option for storing that string in a way that when called it would replace the variables with the data provided on the call. I want to do that on javascript, something like: config['string',vars] And have javascript insert those vars inside the string so it's customized. Wow, this must be the worst question I've made! I'm sorry for the lack of information, I'm kinda braindead on Sundays.

• Bypassing rack version error using Rails 2.3.5

  I'm currently on Dreamhost attempting to run a Rails 2.3.5 app. Here is the situation, Dreamhost's servers have Rails 2.2.2 installed. Of course, I can't update a shared host's rails version, so I froze my Rails in vendor. Rails 2.3.5 requires the rack v1.0.1 gem. Dreamhost uses the rack v1.0.0 gem. So when I try to define: config.gem "rack", :version => "1.0.1" I get: can't activate rack (~> 1.0.1, runtime) for [], already activated rack-1.0.0 for [] So what I really need to do is bypass my app's request to use 1.0.1, and use Dreamhost's 1.0.0. Does anyone know how to configure this? Is it even possible? Thanks for the help.

  Actually my issue is , our application is deployed on jboos As 4.0x, we face some issues in jboss logging.. whenever the server is restarted, jboss stops logging , and there is no update in server.log. After that it is not updating the log file. then we do touch cmd on log4j.xml, so that it creates the log files again. Please help me in fixing the issue we cant do touch everytine. we face this issue in both the nodes. thanks, balaji

This is simply a question of how the underlying code actually works. What is the theory of how Python code works? I sent Guido van Rossum an email cause I really wanted to know the differences in these methods. My email: There are at least 3 ways to do a square root in Python: math.sqrt, the '**' operator and pow(x,.5). I'm just curious as to the differences in the implementation of each of these. When it comes to efficiency which is better? His response: pow and ** are equivalent; math.sqrt doesn't work for complex numbers, and links to the C sqrt() function. • How to know a file is finished copying

  I’m using ReadDirectoryChangesW to spy a folder, if I’m copying a large file to the folder, I can receive multiple FILE_ACTION_MODIFIED messages, it seems each time windows writes a large chunk of the file, you get the file modified notification for each time. I tried to use CreateFile API to check if the file can open by AP or not, but sometime, some of files are always locked by other AP, for example, if you are opening the Outlook, the PST will update, but my AP can’t access it, we have to start Shadow Copy to open it. So my question is, how to know a file is finished copying?

• Automation of testing using JUnit

  Hi, i am trying to automate manual testing of modules in my project. We are dealing with IBM Websphere Message queue software. We have a trigger component written in core java which when executed polls for availability of message in the configured queue. Its an indefinite while loop that keeps the trigger component running. I have written test cases in JUnit to put message in the queue and now will i be able to start/stop the trigger component on demand? Invoking the trigger component keeps it running and i am not getting the control back to check the expected output. If i start it in thread then the log files to which the trigger component is supposed to update when processing the message is not getting updated. How can i resolve this situation.   I've demanded .NET 3.5 SP1 a la http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88136/will-a-vs2008-setup-project-update-net-3-5-sp1. This makes the setup.exe check correctly. I've also added a "SP1" launch condition to my MSI so it doesn't let the user install my .NET 3.5SP1 app via launching the MSI (and replaced the [VSDNETMSG] in the Framework condition message with one that actually mentions SP1). From a future proofing point of view, this feels wrong. I want the condition to be: (NETVer=3.5 AND Net35SPLevel=1) OR (NETVer=>3.5) not (NETVer=3.5 AND Net35SPLevel=1) Is there any way to do that? The framework check doesnt have a condition property to allow me to add a sub-condition... Yes, I could also just not worry my pretty little head about it :P If one of the MS versioning experts out there reads this, if you're going to put stuff that code depends on into SPs, can you please make the installer be able to check for it OOTB. (I really wish they had come up with a better numbering scheme - the world and its dog could see that this was going to get confusing)

  I'll try and be concise: 1) I have a dropdownlist with Autopostback set to TRUE 2) I have an UpdatePanel that contains a Label. 3) When the downdownlist selection is changed, I want to update the label. Problem: Focus is lost on the dropdownlist, forcing the user to click on the dropdownlist to reset focus back to the control. My "solution": In the DropDownList_SelectionChanged event, set focus back to the drop down list: dropdownlist1.focus() Problem: While this works great in IE, Firefox and Chrome change the scroll position such that the control which was assigned focus is positioned at the bottom on the visible portion of the browser window. This is often a very disorientating side effect. How can this be avoided so it works in FF as it does in IE?

• Combine DVCS with Visual Source Safe

  I'm forced to use Visual Source Safe 2005 at work. I'd like to combine that with a DVCS, so that I can check in files locally without disrupting my co-workers if there's a bug or it doesn't compile. In my attempts with Mercurial, it works, but causes a few weird issues. Namely, it thinks someone else has checked out the files I have checked out. Here's my thoughts on how I should manage it: Disable auto-checkout. Work locally in Mercurial When I'm ready to push my changes... Clone my Mercurial repository. Update my Visual Source Safe repository Pull and merge the two repositories using Mercurial. Check everything into Visual Source Safe. Does this sound reasonable? I'm always hearing bad things about VSS, is this just asking for me to see those problems firsthand?

• Master / Detail datagridview with relation from type string in C#

  Hello, I want to show a master / detail relationship using two datagridviews and DataRelation in C#. The relation between the master and the detail table is an ID from type string (and there is no chance to change the ID to type integer). It seems like the DataGridView is not able to update the detail view when changing the row in the master table. Does anybody know if it is possible to achieve a master / detail view using a string ID and if yes, how? Or do I have to use an external DataGrid from another company? Thanks for any help Daniel

• Calling one DAO from another DAO?

  Can this ever make sense? Say I need to fetch an object from the DB which has a relation to another object (represented by a foreign key in the DB, and by a composition in my domain object). If in my first DAO I fetch the data for object 1, then call the dao for object 2, and finally (from within the first DAO, call the setter in object 1 and give it the previously fetched object 2). I know I could do a join instead, but it just seems more logical to me to decouple the functionality (which is why I am skeptical about calling one dao from another). Or should I move some of the logic to the service layer?   I'd like to add a date field to a drupal taxonomy term, alongside the default "title" and "description" Is there some technique/php/module that lets me do this? Is it possible to do with CCK?? I need to be able to display the new field in the same view presenting the content nodes referencing the term. At the moment, I've added a date field to the content nodes with CCK, and it's displayed by the view. But that's not exactly what I'm going for, I just want to update one date per term.

• UITableView: moving a row into an empty section

  I have a UITableView with some empty sections. I'd like the user to be able to move a row into them using the standard edit mode controls. The only way I can do it so far is to have a dummy row in my "empty" sections and try to hide it by using tableView:heightForRowAtIndexPath: to give the dummy row a height of zero. This seems to leave it as a 1-pixel row. I can probably hide this by making a special type of cell that's just filled with [UIColor groupTableViewBackgroundColor], but is there a better way? This is all in the grouped mode of UITableView UPDATE: Looks like moving rows into empty sections IS possible without any tricks, but the "sensitivity" is bad enough that you DO need tricks in order to make it usable for general users (who won't be patient enough to slowly hover the row around the empty section until things click)

  Is there a way to tell a JTable's row filter that it should update itself to display the filtered data? I'm currently using the fireTableDataChanged method in the AbstractTableModel but the underlying data for the table isn't actually changing, so this seems like it might be wasteful. The way my filter works is to check if data in the table is in some other list and only display it if it is in that list. So that other list changed and I need to tell the filter to refresh itself. Is fireTableDataChanged the correct way to do this? thanks, Jeff

• Cross Platform build

  I have an application in which we use a hand-made build system.The reason for this is portability, the application should be portable on Linux/Mac/Windows. There are some port-specific files that are not updated by the deafult build system. What I do now is update the files manually or have a script do this. However I am thinking of switching to cross platform build system like cmake or scons. Are their associated problems wrt portability?
