• Error while installing Ubuntu 12.04 on Windows 7

  Today I tried installing Ubuntu 12 thru wubi.exe. After some time I came across this error and installation stopped. Exception: Error executing command command=C:\Windows\sysnative\bcdedit.exe /set {c7742083-ac81-11e1-ade2-fa13d4cedcff} device partition=E: retval=1 stderr=An error has occurred setting the element data. The request is not supported. Please help on this error and guide accordingly.

  I just added the following lines in /etc/mysql/my.cnf after I converted one database to use InnoDB engine. innodb_buffer_pool_size = 2560M innodb_log_file_size = 256M innodb_log_buffer_size = 8M innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit = 2 innodb_thread_concurrency = 16 innodb_flush_method = O_DIRECT But it raise "ERROR 2013 (HY000) at line 2: Lost connection to MySQL server during query" error restarting mysqld. And mysql error log shows the following InnoDB: Error: log file ./ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 5242880 bytes InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 268435456 bytes! 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error. 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported table type: InnoDB 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Aborting So I commented out this line # innodb_log_file_size = 256M And it restarted mysql successfully. I wonder what's the "5242880 bytes of log file" showed in mysql error? It's the first database on InnoDB engine on this server so when and where is that log file created? In this case, how can I enable innodb_log_file_size directive in my.cnf? EDIT I tried to delete /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile0 and restart mysqld but it still failed. • How do I mount my External HDD with filesystem type errors?

  I am a relatively new Ubuntu user and I am having some difficulty mounting my external 2TB HDD. When I first installed Linux my external HDD was working just fine, however, it has stopped working and I have a lot of important files on there that I need. Before my HDD would automatically mount and no worries. Now, however, it doesn't automatically mount and when I try to manually mount it I keep running into filesystem type errors that I can't seem to get past. I compiled apache with tomcat because I intend to use Solr... not sure if this is relevant or not.

• Break in Class Module vs. Break on Unhandled Errors (VB6 Error Trapping, Options Setting in IDE)

  Basically, I'm trying to understand the difference between the "Break in Class Module" and "Break on Unhandled Errors" that appear in the Visual Basic 6.0 IDE under the following path: Tools --> Options --> General --> Error Trapping The three options appear to be: Break on All Errors Break in Class Module Break on Unhandled Errors Now, apparently, according to MSDN, the second option (Break in Class Module) really just means "Break on Unhandled Errors in Class Modules". Also, this option appears to be set by default (ie: I think its set to this out of the box). What I am trying to figure out is, if I have the second option selected, do I get the third option (Break on Unhandled Errors) for free? In that, does it come included by default for all scenarios outside of the Class Module spectrum? To advise, I don't have any Class Modules in my currently active project. I have .bas modules though. Also, is it possible that by Class Mdules they may be referring to normal .bas Modules as well? (this is my second sub-question). Basically, I just want the setting to ensure there won't be any surprises once the exe is released. I want as many errors to display as possible while I am developing, and non to be displayed when in release mode. Normally, I have two types of On Error Resume Next on my forms where there isn't explicit error handling, they are as follows: On Error Resume Next ' REQUIRED On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED The required ones are things like, checking to see if an array has any length, if a call to its UBound errors out, that means it has no length, if it returns a value 0 or more, then it does have length (and therefore, exists). These types of Error Statements need to remain active even while I am developing. However, the NOT REQUIRED ones shouldn't remain active while I am developing, so I have them all commented out to ensure that I catch all the errors that exist. Once I am ready to release the exe, I do a CTRL+H to find all occurrences of: 'On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED (You may have noticed they are commented out)... And replace them with: On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED ... The uncommented version, so that in release mode, if there are any leftover errors, they do not show to users. • External USB drive is failing

  I have an external USB 2.0 drive WD My Book Mirror Edition, running in RAID 1 (mirroring) mode. A while ago the hard drive started to fail: it stops responding (directories are not listed returning an error after a big timeout). Sometimes it works for weeks before a failure, sometimes – few hours. Small write operations (like removing few files or editing a small file) do not harm, but when copying large files to the drive over the network, or creating the archive locally, the kernel dumps. Also interesting to note that once kernel has failed, Linux does not want to reboot normally (reboot hangs); when Linux box is shutdown with power button, WD drive does not go to sleep mode (as it usually does): leds continue to run, pressing and holding the "shutdown" button on drive's back panel does not do anything; only unplugging the power cord helps. I have browsed and read similar error reports here and there and I tried: I have upgraded the kernel from v2.6.26-2 to 2.6.32-5, which has not solved the problem. They say, this might a cable problem. I have tried to replace the USB-to-miniUSB cable (that connects external drive with computer) with another one. No changes. Somebody suggests to try another USB port. I have only 4 external USB ports, tried another one with no success. They say to try uhci_hcd. I have unmounted the device, unloaded ehci_hcd and mounted again. The difference was that now in log I get reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 and similar kernel dumps after a while. They say to echo 128 > /sys/block/sdb/device/max_sectors. I tried it with ehci_hcd with no success (note: I have issued this command after the drive was mounted but before using it actively). I have lauched smartmond and checking periodically the output of smartctl: drive temperature is OK, number of bad sectors and uncorrectable errors is 0. • Is there an Apache error log viewer for Mac?

  I need an app that reads log files to make it easier to look through the hundreds of lines of errors that apache outputs. I've found this nice log viewer app, but it's only available for Windows. It looks like exactly what I need, except for the fact that it doesn't run on OS X. I've also looked into GoAccess, but it can only view access logs, not error logs. • How to get full write permission on my second drive after dual boot?

  I had a WinXP installation on my hard drive. Then I bought a 2nd drive and installed Win7. Dual boot working fine. But when I'm in the Win7 environment, it appears that I don't have full admin permission on the "D" drive (that's the drive with WinXP). Even though the user I'm logged in as has admin permissions, I have to run my apps with administrator privileges in order to get write access to the D drive. This is not the case when I do stuff on the C drive. I could just get into running those apps that access the D drive in admin mode, but that seems like overkill. Is there some secret switch I can flip so that my D drive acts like my C drive, security-wise?

  I just did an upgrade of my server to Fedora 17 and merged some configuration files containing .rpmnew into the existing ones. I have been successfully logging my php errors in a separate log file by keeping the following in php.ini: log_errors = On error_log = /var/log/php-errors.log I am not sure why the errors are being logged to /var/log/httpd/error_log after the upgrade despite keeping the settings above. Also, $ ls -l /var/log/php-errors.log -rwxrwxr--. 1 apache myself 232 Dec 13 16:49 /var/log/php-errors.log shows that apache did own the php error log file. What could be causing PHP errors to be logged into apache error log file?

• Fedora 14 - Error 5 - No space on Disk - After installation.

  I am new to Fedora, am still figure my way through it. I was going about tweaking it and preparing it to my needs, While installing through yum I dont have much other than the fact that I have to search for the packages. But when I open "Add/remove software" of Fedora. I am greeted with " No space left on the disk" and when I seek for more details it says " Disk Error :[errno 5] Input/output error" I did some research and I saw that it usually occurs during installation, but here I have successfully installed it. • How to zero out a drive?

  I'm currently running Ubuntu 12.04 and want to completely format my laptop so I can install Windows 7 (replace Ubuntu). When I put in my bootable USB with the OS it just shows a black screen with a white blinking cursor on the top left corner. I wait for hours (to be specific 5 whole hours) waiting for something to happen but I get nothing, so I pull out the USB and my Ubuntu 12.04 loads up. Repeated this several times with putting different boot priority options on top-est that relate to USB but the results are same. I go and visit some sites on the net like this http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/cant-replace-ubuntu-with-windows.175716/ that say I have to zero out my hard drive. My question is how? Note: Erasing out all my data is no problem cause I have nothing important to backup. If I have to lose my primary OS (Ubuntu 12.04) in the process I am ready to as my aim is just to install Windows 7 successfully. Please don't answer that there is something wrong with my USB or my USB reader/port/hardware or the content inside the USB cause they all works fine on my brothers PC as it boots up flawlessly.

  Files from my external hard drive are no longer indexed after rebooting. I have to remount and then run # updatedb after each reboot. The problem is updatedb takes a few minutes for my external hard drives. Is there any way I can retain indexing for my externals after I reboot so that the locate command can search through my externals? • Ubuntu Boot Slow - Late Drive Access

  So I just installed Ubuntu on a brand new Samsung 840 Pro SSD and have noticed that it is slower than expected. The LED access light doesn't start blinking until after 20 seconds or so have passed, after which the boot up seems to actually start. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I have Windows 7 installed on a separate SSD and use Windows Loader as the main loader. Windows Loader points to GRUB2, from which I then start Ubuntu up. The 20 seconds count that I mentioned earlier starts AFTER I select Ubuntu 14.04.1 from the GRUB2 menu. Any help is appreciated. EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have only one partition for / and /home. I intend on using a shared NTFS drive for my documents and other personal files, so I had no need for the /home. I did not make a /swap since I have 12 GB of RAM. I also did not make a /boot since I was told that it's not really necessary in my case.

  Good afternoon, this is the first time I participate here as I'm new to Linux. I've been trying to solve the following problem for over a week without any sign of success so I hope there's a much more knowledgeable person here that can give me a solution. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (8,2) with Mac OS X running in a SSD. Then, instead of the Optical bay, I have a HDD in where I would like to install Ubuntu to run it natively. I've tried to do the normal installation process, with or without rEFIt, but it seems the problem resides on the communication between the device containing the Ubuntu .iso file and the laptop. It doesn't allow communication with the boot CD or USB drive. It usually says: “Loading bootlogo...” after I click on the “boot from CD, Linux Icon”. After trying several things, I would like to know if I could install Ubuntu on the HDD as an external HDD (using a friend's Window's system) and then simply put it back into my laptop so as to become an Internal HDD again. I guess, I would have to reinstall many drivers and so on, but would this approach work? Thanks in advance and sorry for this huge block of text

• Android: Strange out of memory issue

  I am not sure where to start to explain this one. I have a list view with a couple image buttons on each row. When you click the list row, it launches a new activity. If you review some of my other posts, I have had to build my own tabs because of an issue w/ the camera layout. The activity that gets launched for result is a map. If I click on my button to launch the image preview (load an image off the sd card) the application returns from the activity back to the listview activity to the result handler to relaunch my new activity which is nothing more than an image widget. So here is the issue, the image preview on the list view is being done w/ the cursor & listadapter. This makes it pretty simple, but I am not sure how I can put a resized (i.e. smaller bit size not pixel) image as the src for the imgbutton on the fly. So I just resized the image that came off the phone camera. The issue is that I get an out of memory error when it tries to go back and re-launch the 2nd activity. ** My question : is there a way I can build the list adapter easily row by row, where I can resize on the fly (bit wise)? - this would be preferable as I also need to make some changes to the properties of the widgets/elements in each row as I am unable to select a row w/ touch screen b/c of focus issue. (I can use roller ball). ** I know I can do an out of band resize and save of my image, but that is not really what I want to do, but some sample code for that would be nice if that is your suggestion. As soon as I disabled the image on the listview it worked fine again.
