STLifying C++ classes

I'm trying to write a class which contains several std::vectors as data members, and provides a subset of vector's interface to access them: class Mesh { public: private: std::vector<Vector3> positions; std::vector<Vector3> normals; // Several other members along the same lines }; The main thing you can do with a mesh is add positions, normals and other stuff to it. In order to allow an STL-like way of accessing a Mesh (add from arrays, other containers, etc.), I'm toying with the idea of adding methods like this: public: template<class InIter> void AddNormals(InIter first, InIter last); Problem is, from what I understand of templates, these methods will have to be defined in the header file (seems to make sense; without a concrete iterator type, the compiler doesn't know how to generate object code for the obvious implementation of this method). Is this actually a problem? My gut reaction is not to go around sticking huge chunks of code in header files, but my C++ is a little rusty with not much STL experience outside toy examples, and I'm not sure what "acceptable" C++ coding practice is on this. Is there a better way to expose this functionality while retaining an STL-like generic programming flavour? One way would be something like this: (end list) class RestrictedVector<T> { public: RestrictedVector(std::vector<T> wrapped) : wrapped(wrapped) {} template <class InIter> void Add(InIter first, InIter last) { std::copy(first, last, std::back_insert_iterator(wrapped)); } private: std::vector<T> wrapped; }; and then expose instances of these on Mesh instead, but that's starting to reek a little of overengineering :P Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm having a problem with a class like this: class Sprite { ... bool checkCollision(Sprite &spr); ... }; So, if I have that class, I can do this: ball.checkCollision(bar1); But if I change the class to this: class Sprite { ... bool checkCollision(Sprite* spr); ... }; I have to do this: ball.checkCollision(&bar1); So, what's the difference?? I have the wsdl and xml specifications, but I have a doubt: the xml elements are pretty complex, they are not simple type, but they have parent/child relationships (e.g. I have a Book class with an author subclass). How can I map this to PHP classes? In this example, should I create an author class i.e.: class Author { public $name; public $surname; } and then class Book { public $author; } will $author be a class of type Author? Hello, is it possible to return exemplar of object using passed type name (string) in c++? I have some base abstract class Base and a few derivates. Example code: class Base { /* ... */ }; class Der1 : public Base { /* ... */ }; class Der2 : public Base { /* ... */ }; And I need function like: Base *objectByType(const std::string &name); Number of derivates classes are changeable and I don't want to make something like switching of name and returning by hands new object type. Is it possible in c++ to do that automatically anyway? p.s. usage should looks like: dynamic_cast<Der1>(objectByType("Der1")); I need pure c++ code (crossplatform). Using boost is permissible.

Hi, I want to build a selector from a class method. I'm doing it this way: NavigationTreeActionHandler* handler=[NavigationTreeActionHandler self]; NavigationTreeNode* bombsNode=new NavigationTreeNode("Bombs","bigbomb.tif" ,handler,@selector(BigBombButtonPressed:)); I need to pass to NavigationTreeNode the target and the selector to the target method. I try to get the target using the self property of the class object (Don't know if htis is the correct way to do it). Then I get the selector for the class method I want to call on the class. Everything compiles ok but it fails when I use: [[handler class] instanceMethodSignatureForSelector:selector]; I get a nil and don't really know why... could anybody help please? return only one document for each filter defined in the query

Hi all, In one of my latest projects I use Solr 1.4 for searching products.However I have ran into a slight problem, which I aint sure if its possible to do using Solr. All products are indexed by "country" and "category" and the "id", "class" and "description" are stored values. I now have been requested to extract a sample list of products that we have for a give "category" and "ONLY RETURNING ONE" product for each country where the product is available. In my current implementation, I have a dismax query to get a list of all the countries that correspond to the catergory, then I call again solr to extract all products for each country, limiting the no. rows by the size of the countries found in the previous query. The problem I have with this current implementation is I can not be certain that I have one product for each country in the list. Therefore would anyone know if it possible to tell solr that you want only one product per country provided in the query? Any guidance would be useful.

Say I have 2 subclasses from UIViewController, class A and class B. In Main nib file an object is representing class A and it is set to load file from Secondary nib file. The owner of Secondary nib is of class B. The question is - from which class an object in Main nib file will be instanciated once the nib files unarchived in the memory? The reason this question arised is that I have to take care myself if such reference to external NIB file present, to ensure that the first nib's object and second nib's owner is same. In real life, we are willing to pay a price for performance –i.e. to have information at our fingertips. We have run into customers opting to store a document folder path as a document metadata field. They have their reasons, half of the ECM community will agree with them, and the other half would raise an eye brow. In the end, they are getting creative to achieve their document management goals. The below steps outlines how to create a Global Rule that would store a document’s folder path in a custom metadata field: Create a Global Rule via Configuration Manager > Rules Tab > Add Then check “Is global rule with priority”. Then check “Use rule activation condition”.
