    How can I make statd connect to other IP address other than 127.0.0.1? I have a server that is connected to 2 different networks (one is public, another a private). I want it to provide a NFS share for only the private network. The host in an ubuntu 8.04.     Can anyone explain to me in what order apache executes .htaccess files residing in different levels of the same path and how the rewrite rules therein are prioritized? You will end up waking one day and asking stuff that are equal to "how do i walk?" :) My specific question is that as a new entrant to C# and OOP i am stepping into many little "details" that need to be addressed. Written a lot of code in VB.NET / cobol / simple php e.t.c surely does not help much into the OOP world... So , even after reading entry level books for C# and watching some videos i recently found out about the "factory model design" for applications. I query on C# component PDF viewer on Google and get a lot of hits, but I'm not certain what programmers have tried and liked. Background: See, my employer is wanting me to build one in C# as a kind of training exercise, but also to be a product for sales lead generation for another product they sell. The employer is perfectly okay buying something, as long as it's good. I've learned VB6 and PHP, and know a little C and C++, so I'm trying to learn where people get the best-rated addon components for it, and especially for this PDF viewer and form filler thing he wants.

  • How can I connect my Xbox to my Mac on my network

    I have a wireless router/modem (Router 1) in my living room. This is connected to the internet (cable). Wireless is disabled as the router has a terrible wireless range. My Xbox is connected via ethernet to Router 1. Another LAN output from Router 1 connects to a powerline adapter. Router 1 acts as a DHCP server on 192.168.0.x and has the IP 192.168.0.1 In a second room I have Router 2. This has the powerline feed from Router 1 going into the WAN socket. This router runs the Tomato Firmware and acts as a wireless router for the rest of the house using the IP range 192.168.1.x. Router 2 IP is 192.168.1.1. My Mac is connected to Router 2 using a LAN cable and has the IP 192.168.0.133. Several mobile devices need wireless access. I want an ethernet connection to my Mac, not wireless. I should be able to use software like Connect360 to share media from my Mac to the XBox but the XBox does not see my Mac. I can ping 192.168.0.1 from the Mac. Is this possible using my current setup? If so, how?

  • Why does my CD Tray keep popping open?

    I have Ubuntu server - Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS and I can't figure out why my CD tray is opening all the time. I have looked into /var/log/auth.log, cron list and found nothing. The eject command closes tray and then it gets opened again. The server has a LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) setup and I can't afford to restart it now. How can I find out who or which program is popping the tray open? Which programs can cause this behavior?

  • winbind failing after a semi-random amount of time

    I have winbind set up to authenticate to our AD for samba shares. This is the third such server, and the only one having any issues. It seems after a random amount of time samba shares will just stop working. Winbind processes seem to be running but restarting them seems to fix the issue for a while. Looking at the logs have been kind of hit an miss and I don't know exactly when it fails. One interesting thing is that it seems to be pulling from another domain controller that it shoudlnt. I censored out the domain name in this example. But isnt there some way to block authentication to a domain? I'm not sure if this is a symptom or a cause of the issue.   • Is there an app/script I can deploy to enable my users to change their own LDAP passwords?

    I've recently enabled LDAP based authentication on my domain. This has allowed us to use a single set of credentials to administer the blog, the forum and the wiki. Unfortunately, this has come at the cost of users being able to change their own passwords. Ideally, users would be able to visit a page (i.e. mydomain.com/account), authenticate and then change their password. Does anyone know of a script or app that will allow me to do this quickly and easily? I guess it wouldn't be hard to write in PHP, but I'd prefer not to have the hassle.

  • Webserver max CPU when apache and MYSQL are ran together

    This website has been running fine without issues, Recently it went down. After some investigation it looks like the combo of MYSQL and Apache bring the box to its knees. Apache can run find serving static web pages and MYSQL can run fine when the website isn't working. As soon as the website is enabled with SQL running the CPU on the box remains at 100%. The server is a redhat based box running the latest software packages. Any help/suggestions are welcome.     In the same way gmail can generate ads based on email content, I am looking for a way to develop a system which can: Allow users to connect their email address to our site It then would continously monitor all incomming emails From the incomming emails there would be a critera(e.g. a certain address or subject) if any of the emails matched the critea it would would be saved to a database Then once a new email had been found the users would receive an email notification will tells them to log back into the site to see it. My questions are: Would this be possible? What would be a good language to use(generally I like php, python and java) Are there any frameworks which would help do this? How would I connect the users email account to allow access to their emails(do I need a mail server?) Any advice? Thank you! If you need more information please let me know.

  • Understanding the Java Ecosystem

    I have traditionally had the "luxury" of being a one-man development team. I've used Python extensively, have a reasonable command of Perl, PHP, and JavaScript. My problem is Java. I can write Java code. I'm not great at it--unlike Python, I rarely make use of anything unique to Java when I'm writing it. Furthermore, my experience is mostly in simple GUI/console programming. Unfortunately, I'm currently pursuing an IT degree where Java is the lingua franca. My database class is requiring that our projects be written in Java using servlets, and I just can't wrap my head around the ecosystem. Is there a good online overview of or tutorial on how the Java web ecosystem works? I have Thinking in Java, but it's mostly just the language itself (which I understand well enough to get by). I have looked at the Sun servlet tutorial, but it seems outdated.

  • Making file in user's homedir accessible from web/webserver

    Hi everybody, I have a txt-file one of my user's homedir which is regularly updated there by a script. I now want to be able to access (read) this file from the web. /home/user/folder/file.txt So what I tried now is to log in as root, go into my webservers httpdocs folder /var/www/path/to/domain/httpdocs and there I tried to create a symbolic link with ln -s /home/user/foler/file.txt /var/www/path/to/domain/httpdocs/file.txt But this didn't work... I already tried changing the chmod of the symlink (which changes the ones from the original file of course) and also a chown to the user from webserver, but no matter what I tried I cannot open the file from the web or from a php-script (which is what I want to do) Can anybody help me and tell me what I need to do? What rights do I need to give? Or is there another way of achieving this?

  • Lenovo Y460 Shutdown/Reboot/Logoff doesn't work

    This is a part of the massive dump of problems I'm encountering with my Lenovo Y460 and Ubuntu. Problem: Cannot shutdown/reboot/logoff. Logoff issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1791439 Shutdown and Reboot often freezes without doing anything. Currently can only use hard reset. Maybe related to the tricks I did to work around the ATI/Intel issue. See: Lenovo Y460 ATI PowerXpress issue I'm not sure where I can find the shutdown/reboot logs.   • Troubleshooting: Monitor never turns on, system fans running, DVD-ROM does not open.

    Hi all, Here are my specs beforehand: ECS P4VXASD2+ (V5.0) motherboard FSB 533MHz Intel Pentium 4 2.40A GHz Prescott Socket 478 2x 256MB PC2100 DDR RAM, 2x 256MB PC133 SDRAM CoolMax 350W PSU DVD-ROM - will edit with brand & model 128MB ATi Radeon 9800 Pro AGP No hard drive So, I just put those parts together today and I tried to power it up, with the monitor connected to the Radeon 9800 in the AGP slot (mobo does not have VGA port). After turning it on, the CPU fan, graphics fan and system fan go on. However, the monitor remains in standby mode, despite being plugged in. Also, after pushing the button on the DVD-ROM drive, it does not open. I've used the DVD-ROM drive before with absolutely no issues. The graphics card was slightly buggy when I put it on another machine, which was left outside in winter weather for 3 months. (Still that computer's integrated graphics worked fine.) CMOS battery was replaced and jumpers are all set correctly. Now, I'm wondering whether the motherboard, CPU, PSU or GPU is the problem. What can I do to test which part is the problem? Just to clarify, I don't have a hard drive, so I usually boot Ubuntu from the disc drive. Anyways, thanks in advance!

    I've been using session middleware to build web apps for years: from PHP's built-in session handling layer to node's connect session middleware. However, I've never tried (or needed) to roll my own session handling layer. How would one go about it? What sort of checks are necessary to provide at least some modicum of security against HTTP session highjacking? I figure setting a cookie with a token to keep track of the session, and then perhaps some check to see that the originating IP address of the session doesn't change and that the client browser software remains consistent. Hoping to hear about current best-practices...

    In Python and JavaScript, semi-colons are optional. In PHP, quotes around array-keys are optional ($_GET[key] vs $_GET['key']), although if you omit them it will first look for a constant by that name. It also allows 2 different styles for blocks (colon, or brace delimited). I'm creating a programming language now, and I'm trying to decide how strict I should make it. There are a lot of cases where extra characters aren't really necessary and can be unambiguously interpreted due to priorities, but I'm wondering if I should still enforce them or not to encourage good programming habits. What do you think?

    (I have a question about the TCP handshake and how port numbers are assigned, if this does not belong here, let me know.) Hi, I'm studying TCP/IP from the book "Internetworking with TCP/IP" by Douglas Comer. In the TCP chapter it mentions that TCP defines an "endpoint" as a pair (IP address, port number), and a connection is defined by two endpoints. This has a few implications, such as, a local TCP port could be in several connections at once, as long as there are no two from the same IP and the same remote port. This also means that the amount of established connections is almost limitless (2^16 for every IPv4 address. 2^48 in total). Now, in class, I was told that when one connects to a listening port, both sides agree on a different port to use, so the communication can happen and the listener socket remains free. This was also my belief before reading the book. Now I feel like I should obviously trust the book (It's Comer!), but is there any truth to the other explanation? Thanks

  • What are some client-side sitemap generators?

    Most of the sitemap generators I've found all scan my internal files and base it on that. However using apache and htaccess I have many aliases for things for example: /brand/model/photos/ is empty directory wise, but on the web it relocates it to a zenphoto gallery using htaccess. http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ does What I need, but I'd like to have more control over it and I need it to be dynamic and run weekly or daily. Allow for specific change frequencies based on the file/directory. I also want to be able to make a "pretty" sitemap html file.
