• configuring apache with mod_mono for .net app

  I'm having a huge problem getting mod_mono and apache configured to work correctly. I've had this working at one time, but I can't seem to figure out where i'm going wrong. I'm using mono-server4. I'm trying to use a seperate port from the main website. So I have in /etc/apache2/sites-available (with a link from sites-enabled) a vhost configuration that looks like this: <VirtualHost *:9999> ServerName XXX ServerAdmin web-admin@XXX DocumentRoot /var/xxx MonoServerPath XXX "/usr/bin/mod-mono-server4" MonoDebug XXX true MonoSetEnv XXX MONO_IOMAP=all MonoApplications XXX "/:/var/xxx" <Location "/"> Allow from all Order allow,deny MonoSetServerAlias XXX SetHandler mono SetOutputFilter DEFLATE SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI "\.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$" no-gzip dont-vary </Location> <IfModule mod_deflate.c> AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/javascript </IfModule> </VirtualHost> I used mono-server4-admin to create the application mono-server4-admin --path=/var/xxx --app=/XXX --port=9999 When i start apache, it gives the error: Syntax error on line 13 of /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/xxx: Server alias 'XXX, not found. This corresponds with the MonoSetServerAlias statement. So I commented it out, and when I do that apache starts. However, when I try to access the site, I get a 500 error. The access log indicates that it's trying to access the app on port 80, rather than 9999. I'm not sure what the problem is here. Can anyone help me get figure out where I went wrong? • ability to see free/busy detail information for conference rooms in Outlook 2007 and Microsoft hosted Exchange solution

  recently my company migrated from an in-house Exchange server to the Microsoft hosted exchange online solution. My client is Outlook 2007. Before the migration, I could see the details of the meetings when I hovered on the busy blue bar for a resource such as a conference room. I could click on the meetings and see the invite list and the contents of the meeting. Ofcourse if the meeting was marked as private I could not. however after the migration to the online solution, I cannot see the detailed information. I can still see if the room is busy or not but I can no longer see the details of that meeting. The IT folks can see the information and they claim that they can see it because they have full admin rights. It is their claim that in the hosted Exchange solution you can either have full access (admin access) and see the details or not see anything but just that the room is busy. there is no middle ground such as being able to see the details of the meeting but not having any admin rights. For some reason I believe this to be not true. Can someone please verify my doubts and inform me of what needs to be done to see that information if my IT folks are wrong? thanks

• DPM server 2010 Attach agent error : administrator privileges missing?

  I’m hoping you would be able to help me out with this little problem I’m having. I installed DPM 2010 in our test environment to test backups on Exchange 2010 servers. The environment includes : 1xDC 2x Exchange Server 2010 1x DPM 2010 server All of these are running on Microsoft server 2008 R2 Virtual machines. The host machines are using Hyper-v. So the problem goes like this : 1- I tried to install the agents from the DPM server GUI, which failed saying I didn’t have the correct permissions. 2- So then I tried the manual installation using the commands from : the Microsoft site http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb870935.aspx 3- The agent installation worked but when I get to attaching the agents to the DPM server it still gives me the error saying that the specified account does not have administrator rights. 4- I tried the Domain admin, users who are domain admin + local admin, single local admins. 5- I have turned off the windows firewall and made sure all the services are running. So now I’m out of ideas and really need help, the agent attach to the DPM server is the last thing that is holding me back from deploying everything to the production site. Any help would be really appreciated.

But, if i navigate to www.site2.com, i get 404 not found. I do have an index.html in /var/www (permissions:777 and ownership www-data:www-data), and i have also verified that a symlink was created for site2.com.conf in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled. Any way to fix this ? Thank you.

• Changing the Start Menu Power Button - Setting does not work: only (Shut down) is available

  This is the second time I try to change this setting on a Vista based OS and I can't get it to work again. OS: Windows Server 2002 SP2 (not R2) = Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002] = Vista When I go to: Power Options - Change Plan Settings - Change advanced power settings - Power buttons and lid - Start menu power button - Setting: the available combo box will only show the option Shut down. No other options are available. This server is part of a domain and has not been set up by me. I have not yet talked with the domain admin, but as far as I could tell from googling, only Win7 has group policy options for the start menu. (And yes, OC I will talk to the domain admin to see if he has any clue - which I doubt.) (Edit: I have now talked to our domain admin, and he's got no clue either.) I'm responsible for this server and a local administrator but not a domain administrator. I switched off User Account Control (UAC) yesterday without problems. Since I always log into this machine via RDP and this being a server, the natural choice would be the option (Log out) and not (Shut down). What can I do to fix it or to find out why it cannot be changed? Thanks!

• Cannot write to directory after taking ownership

  I had a directory on an internal hard-drive that was created in an old Windows 7 install. After re-installing my operating system, when I try to create a new directory inside that directory, I get an Access Denied message. This isn't a protected directory, just a random directory I created at the drive root (that drive was not the C drive in either install). I tried to take ownership by opening folder properties, going to the Security tab, clicking on Advanced, going to Owner tab, clicking on Edit, selecting my user account, checking Replace owner on subcontainers and objects, and clicking Apply. There were no error messages and I closed the dialogs. I rebooted, checked the owner on that folder and a couple subfolders and it appears to be set correctly. I am still getting an Access Denied message however when trying to create a directory in it. I've also tried using attrib -R . to remove any possible readonly attribute inside the directory in an admin command prompt but am still unable to create a directory using a non-admin prompt (it does work in an admin prompt). Is there anything I can do to get write access to that folder and it's subcontents in a non-elevated context without disabling UAC?

• MySQL stopped asking for passwords

  I'm currently experiencing a weird problem with one of my MySQL database servers: It stopped asking for passwords when I try to access the database from local with the mysql command line tool. I need a valid admin username. I also still need a password for remote access (i.e. from another IP). And I need a password when I - for example - access the database from a PHP script. But when I try to access the database from local host/commandline it will let me straight in to the data with my administrative users. They (admin users) have passwords set - and as I mentioned - I still need to specify those when I try to access the data via PHP. Changing the password didn't help. Non-Administrative users need to specify their passwort, but that doesn't really help if they can get anywhere with "mysql -u root" (or another admin user account name). (System Debian Linux Lenny, MySQL 5.0.51a) Any ideas? Anything that explains this behaviour? I don't understand how this can happen.

• Why is MySQL unable to open hosts.allow/hosts.deny?

  I have a storage server running Nexenta (OpenSolaris kernel, Ubuntu userspace) with MySQL on top of a ZFS storage array, using innodb_file_per_table and ulimit -n set to 8K. mysqltuner.pl confirms the file limit and claims there are 169 files. The following command: pfiles `fuser -c / 2>/dev/null indicates one mysqld process having 485 file/device descriptors (and they're almost all for files) so I don't know how reliable the tuning script is, but it is still way less than 8K and this list also finds no other process which is close to it's limit. The global total number of descriptors in use is around 1K. So what can cause mysqld to be constantly streaming the following errors? [date] [host] mysqld[pid]: warning: cannot open /etc/hosts.allow: Too many open files [date] [host] mysqld[pid]: warning: cannot open /etc/hosts.deny: Too many open files Everything appears to actually be operating fine, but the issue is constantly flooding the admin console and starts right away on a fresh boot (not only reproducible, but always from mysqld and always the hosts files, whose permissions are the default -rw-r--r-- 1 root root). I could, of course, suppress it from the admin console but I'd rather get to the bottom of it and still allow mysqld warnings/errors to reach the admin console. EDIT: not only is the actual file descriptor well within sane limits, the issue also persists (with immediate appearance) even with the file limit raised to 65535 and always only on hosts.allow/deny.

• Allow members of a group to be unlocked by a specific account on AD

  Background I'm creating a service to allow support staff to enable their firecall accounts out of hours (i.e. if there's an issue in the night and we can't get hold of someone with admin rights, another member of the support team can enable their personal firecall account on AD, which has previously been setup with admin rights). This service also logs a reason for the change, alerts key people, and a bunch of other bits to ensure that this change of access is audited / so we can ensure these temporary admin rights are used in the proper way. To do this I need the service account which my service runs under to have permissions to enable users on active directory. Ideally I'd like to lock this down so that the service account can only enable/disable users in a particular AD security group. Question How do you grant access to an account to enable/disable users who are members of a particular security group in AD? Backup Question If it's not possible to do this by security group, is there a suitable alternative? i.e. could it be done by OU, or would it be best to write a script to loop through all members of the security group and update the permissions on the objects (firecall accounts) themselves?   I was just hired as a System Admin for a small company. They use Exchange 2010 for their Mail Server. I've never had a permission issue like this with Exchange because I worked for a larger firm with less responsibility before. Their old system admin is LONG GONE, so I can't ask him what he did. The issue: Right now ANYONE can gain access to a mailbox and view the mail in the mailbox. This is disabled by default you say and you have to grant them full access ? You are right, but the old System Admin I guess didn't know what he was doing. SO right now user A can open up user B mailbox with out being granted permission. So here is what I found out. Every user in EMC Full Access Permission has Exchange Server group granted. Within the Exchange Server Group, Domain User's is a Member Of. Within Domain User's all user's are listed as Members. So my guess is because of this all users can access ANY mailbox? Well GOOD News. The company is small (35 people) and they are not computer savvy, so hopefully no one has figured out they can open anyone's mailbox.(From what I can tell no). Next thing I did was with my domain user in EMC, delete Exchange Servers Group in FUll Access Permissions and grant access to my user. I made sure that my memeber was apart of the Exchange Server Group. Went to our OWA site and now I don't have permission to my own mailbox. Re did everything to the way it was with my user and now I'm stuck. Any help? I would think granting a single user that is in the Exchange Server group, Full Access to that mailbox would enable them to open that mailbox???? I guess I am wrong.

• MSSQL 2008 login failed for windows authentication

  I'm running Microsoft SQL 2008 on a Windows 2008 Server. The MSSQL server server authentication is set to SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode. I have created an active directory security group "xyz app users". I have added a normal user (without any active directory admin privledges) and a user with domain admin privledges to the "xyz app users" group. I have added the group to the MSSQL management console as a login user. This group is a member of the public server role and is mapped to two databases. On a workstation, when the normal user is logged in, I configure a DSN ODBC connection, and I'm able to successfully create the DSN and test the SQL connection. However, when I'm logged in as the user with domain admin privledges, when I attempt to configure the DSN ODBC connection, I can't get past the login ID configuration screen. If I select "windows authentication" and click "next", I get an error: Connection failed: SQLState: '28000' SQL Server Error: 18456 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'mydomain\myuser' On the server's application event logs, this error appears: Login failed for user 'mydomain\myuser'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: 172.x.x.x] And in MSSQL's event logs: Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11 Solutions that I've seen so far do not seem to fit this situation (some solutions I've seen are only applicable when the BUILDIN\Administrator is being used locally on the server, which is not the case here).

• Changing farm account in Sharepoint 2010

  After changing the the farm account to a domain user account I get the following error when trying to access the Central Administration page: "Cannot connect to configuration database" After I realized the headache may not be worth it, I decided to a reinstall using the following SP user account guidelines: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662513.aspx After getting everything up, I am getting an error when using the designated farm account under the Central Admin Website Manage Service Accounts: "Access denied" If it is the farm administrator, why would I not be able to manage service accounts? I am able to access the other part of the admin site. Also, when logging in with the farm account it lists me as a "system account" not the domain account which I used for log in. Am I missing something or is this normal behavior? Am I not suppose to login with the farm account? When I log in with the Setup account (also a domain account) I can access everything with no errors on the site. The only difference between the two accounts is one has local admin privileges on the Sharepoint farm server which is the setup account. if you notice those privileges are not necessary for the farm account according to the article cited.

• How to fix missing RAID1 drive

  I had to do some fiddling about with my cables inside thebox and now I am getting a "Critical Error" about the RAID disks during startup. I have a gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 motherboard. Aparently the RAID controller is an AMD SB710 chip. I'm pretty sure I know what happenned. The first time I rebooted I had forgotten the power cable on one of the disks in the RAID1 (mirror) and let it boot up. So I shut down and put the power back in. So now when it boots up I go into the RAID admin interface (between the BIOS screen and the OS loading): it shows the RAID1 as in error the logical device has one disk and says the other is disconnected or missing the other physical disk shows up as a single disk If I boot to the OS (Windows 7 32 bit) the data all seems to be there. If I go into computer management it says my partition is on a disk and working OK. But the other disk is offline because: "The disk is offline because it has a signature collision with another disk that is online" So I am guessing because I STUPIDLY booted up with only one of the disks powered on, the other disk fell out of synch with the mirror and so now cannot rejoin the mirror. How do I fix this? I want to get the RAID1 mirror working again. There does not appear to be any "Repair" option in the basic RAID admin tool which I get into during startup before the OS boots. I have not made any explicit changes to the online one (but I guess the OS has probably written some admin data).

• Windows 7 permissions and Samba domain

  I'm the main desktop support in an office of mixed MacOS and WinXp machines, about 60. I'm new to Windows 7. Currently our XP users are admins on their own machines, and my boss is wanting us to get away from that now that we're going to Windows 7 (64bit). My boss is largely absent from my day-to-day work, so I'm here looking for help =) I have numerous unattended .cmd scripts that we run from a server share, unattended software installs. Some run at login, some have to be run manually. With the NetworkAdmin account logged on to the computer, I am able to run the .cmd files and install stuff just fine. With my test account logged on (Power User), I cannot run the .cmd file - I get an Access Denied. When I change my test account to an Admin on the machine, I still get access denied. However, the test account can simply double-click the .exe and install the software just fine, as admin. Power User can't install anything. How do I fix it so that any power user or admin on the machine can run anything as long as it's on our shared software drive?

  Possible Duplicate: Access Denied when saving a file in Windows 7 I installed Windows 7 fresh on a new machine. Now when I unarchive (winrar or 7z etc. ) to Program files (x86) (for example), access denied. Even if I copy a file to a folder I installed an app to it is still access denied. I checked the security, it looks like full control is given to the creator - this is weird as I never ran across this before (same version of Windows 7 - its just a fresh install after some new hardware). It is the same effect as if I was editing the hosts file, and you do not use "run as admin" you will not be able to save it, yo will have to save it somewhere else. This "file copy" issue I ran into is the same. I could change all these permissions, however this is something I never had to do before. I am the admin, why did the install, not give me "full control"? How can this be globally fixed. I cannot change the permissions - they are greyed out - so that is weird as well. If I was a standard reason, It would make sense, however, again, I am the admin.

  I have two roles in devise. The first is the admin and the second the normal user-role. Now I´d like to give these two groups in some cases same rights with before filters. How does this work? I have: before_filter :authenticate_user!, :only = [:new, :create] before_filter :authenticate_admin!, :only = [:new, :create, :edit, :update, :destroy] But now only a user can :new and :create...the admin not..
