• Server HTTP Load times slow?

  Hello, My server @ codemeh.com (HTTP Server) seems to be randomly loading slowly, I cannot tell if it just my forums (http://www.codemeh.com/forums/) that are loading slowly or if the WHOLE site is just loading slowly since my forums are the largest thing on the site right now. load average: 0.02, 0.17, 0.20 That is super low to my knowledge. I have tried Google Page Analytic plug-in for FireFox to solve the problem but nothing comes up that is VERY bad. If someone could investigate this for me since I am very new at apache and server configurations. Thanks!   I'm working with push notifications in a mobile application, and I've been informed that a lot of our clients may be using SOCKS or HTTP proxies for outbound and inbound traffic. Is there anything in particular I need to program or document with regards to deploying our mobile app in this sort of environment? If you were setting up and installing the application server, what guarantees would you want from the person that had programmed it? Specifically regarding push notification services for all four major OSes (APNS, GCM, BPS and MPNS). I've got absolutely no experience with proxies or server deployment, in case you couldn't tell :)

• PHPMyAdmin HTTP auth works, but not cookie auth

  I'm running PHPMyAdmin version 3.3.2 on Ubuntu 10.04, fully updated. Recently, the authentication for PHPMyAdmin stopped working. It would return the error 1045. However, login on the command line still worked. I switched to HTTP authentication instead of cookie auth, and now it works fine. Any ideas why this could be, or what I could do to make cookie auth work again? (Partly just to know, and partly since it's a bit nicer).

• Apt Stalls When Using HTTP Sources

  I was getting some to me inexplicable behavior from apt-get/aptitude on an admittedly crusty old webserver. While it was otherwise running fine, as soon as I tried a package upgrade, after a downloading a few updates it would stall completely, then my SSH session hung (and I was unable to reconnect), thus requiring a hard restart. First, I switched to a different package source in /etc/apt/sources.list, but still got the same behavior. At this point I was assuming the NIC was dying in some weird way... but as soon as I changed the package source to use FTP instead of HTTP, everything worked fine, and I was able to upgrade. For now I'm not too concerned since I have an easy work around, but it implies that there's something very weird with my network setup, since it seems to be protocol (or port?) specific. I didn't think any of my NAT setup would affect outbound traffic, but I could be crazy. Any ideas what I should try to look for?

Whenever trying to do : if ($http_accept !~ ".") { proxy_set_header Accept */*; } It complains with the message : "proxy_set_header" directive is not allowed here So, using nginx, how can we set the HTTP Accept header to */* when it is empty before sending the request to the application server ?

  I have a server setup with nginx serving static content and proxy all PHP/dynamic requests to apache on 127.0.0.1 I'm building an API for my databases, and I need to allow clients by their origin (domain name), rather than just IP. Based on CORS rules. So when I send an HTTP header header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: www.client-requesting.myapi.com"); from my API server, I have to tell it which origin I allow, otherwise client side requests won't work to my API due to same-origin policy. The question is how can I know which domain name (if any) called my API? What should be the nginx and apache configuration to pass the origin parameter? I tried to google, and all I found is some possible solution with mod_rpaf, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!

• How can I make sharepoint use a small URL (e.g. http://internal.com instead of http://internal.com/sites/osfc/Pages/Default.aspx)

  Hi all, I'm new to sharepoint 2007, currently the home page is htp://internal.com/sites/osfc/Pages/Default.aspx but I would like to use htp://internal.com or have htp://internal.com redirect to the long URL. How can I do this? I thought of using a 301 redirect but the permissions on the site in IIS don't allow users to view files placed in the root and I don't want to mess with the permissions. Currently if I visit http://internal.com I see a sharepouint Access Denied page (htp://internal.com/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=%2f). • Basic IPTables setup for OpenVPN/HTTP/HTTPS server

  I'm trying to get a basic IPTables setup on my server which will allow HTTP/SSH access, as well as enable the use of the server as an OpenVPN tunnel. The following is my current rule setup - the problem is OpenVPN queries (port 1194) seemed to be getting dropped as a result of this ruleset. Pinging a website while logged into the VPN results in teh response: Request timeout for icmp_seq 1 92 bytes from 10.8.0.1: Destination Port Unreachable When I clear the IPTable rules pinging from the VPN works fine. • Is it possible to do a 301 redirect AND redirect to the requested resource?

  For one of our projects, we're doing a rebranding of the website name, logo, etc... As such, we need to 301 Moved Permenantly redirect all users from the old domain to the new domain. With IIS7, that's pretty simple. We just create a new website that redirects all traffic to a host-headered domain .. to the new one. But this loses their original destination resource. eg. Old Domain: www.OldDomain.com New Domain: www.NewDomain.com User: www.OldDomain.com/user/PureKrome -> 301 --> www.newDomain.com Notice how it's going to the new domain BUT not to /user/PureKrome? How can I do this so it goes to the new domain and keeps the original resource request? I'm guessing URL-ReWriter for IIS7 might help? Also, what happens if I want to do this... CurrentDomain 1: Domain.com CorrectDomain 1: www.Domain.com CurrentDomain 2: AnotherDomain.com CorrectDomain 2: www.AnotherDomain.com Is it also possible to have those in the same IIS website? So any URL to domain.com will 301 to www.domain.com Right now I'm making 2 IIS websites, with a 301 hardcoded (which still means I lose the original resource request, too). Help!

• Apache user owns git project root, with git-http-backend setup, but still having permissions problems

  I've setup git-http-backend on my vps server (CentOS), under one of its users. The apache user owns the git project root directory - /home/theuser/git/, as below: drwxrwxr-x 3 apache apache The apache user also owns everything inside that directory. But I'm still getting the following error in git when trying to push: error: unpack failed: unpack-objects abnormal exit The apache error log shows the following error: error: insufficient permission for adding an object to repository database ./objects I've tried every combination of user permissions and enabled read/write access, but not getting anywhere. Should the git user own this folder? Can someone explain exactly what user should own this folder, or what steps I might take to fix this problem?

  Hello, I'm having the following problem. I'm installing SharePoint 2010 Beta so I need to activate the windows feature "Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation". The problem is I cannot activate it, i get the message: "An error has occurred. Not all features were successfully changed" When i look at the log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) I found this error: Process output: [l:186 [186]"SMConfigInstaller[Error]: Failed in calling 'StartService' for service 'NetTcpActivator'. Error code: 0x8007042c Anyone can give me a clue of what is happening here?

• Getting IIS redirects proper for second HTTP site

  2x IIS sites on one host. I have mainsite.domain.com and secondsite.seconddomain.com. Both sites point to the same IP in public DNS. Nothing wrong with mainsite.domain.com, it redirects and goes to its own HTTPS site without issue. Going to secondsite.seconddomain.com without HTTPS, it re-directs me to the HTTPS mainsite.domain.com when I want it to go to its own secured site. It's odd that HTTPS secondsite.seconddomain.com still works as expected. Is there anyway to make HTTP of secondsite.seconddomain.com redirect to its own HTTPS entry?

  I am trying to open port 80 and 3690 for HTTP and svnserve respectively. I have Windows Firewall off, and have tried temporarily disabling Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise, to no avail. According to http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/, both ports 80 and 3690 are still blocked. I can't think of what would be blocking them if Windows Firewall and my antivirus are disabled. • HTTPS subdomain does not load site under HTTP

  I recently installed an SSL certificate on a subdomain following the steps at cPanel. Lets just say the domain is example.com and the subdomain is sub.example.com. I updated the userdata file for the subdomain and changed the IP address to the IP I wanted to use I updated the example.com zone file and changed the IP for the A Name for the subdomain to the IP I wanted to use Using domain tools I checked that sub.example.com resolved to the new IP which it does. I then installed an SSL certificate on example.com and then on sub.example.com When I visit http://sub.example.com I get the default Apache account screen, and when I visit https://sub.example.com I get the cPanel 404 page. If however I enter https://sub.example.com/admin (the location of my admin section) the page loads and I can login. I thought that this might be a propagation issue however as the subdomain resolves to the IP and I can reach the admin page I suspect it is not a propagation issue and possibly an incorrect zone file. Any thoughts?

• How to tunnel local port through proxy server?

  I have a non-proxy-aware program that I need to get working through an HTTP proxy server. The program (MYPROG) running on a machine I can configure at will (MYSRV) connects to a specific server (DESTSRV) on a specific port (DESTPRT). There is an existing HTTP proxy server (PROXYSRV:PROXYPRT) that will allow the traffic through if MYPROG was proxy-aware, but it isn't. Is there a way to listen locally on a specific port and forward the traffic through the proxy server? I can totally configure where MYPROG points to, so I could point it to MYSRV:4545 with the thought that some wonder program will redirect the data to DESTSRV:DESTPRT through PROXYSRV:PROXYPRT. I'm thinking IP Tables or netcat could do the trick if only I could figure them out... Thanks!

• 1K incoming http post requests per second, each with a 10-50K file

  I'm trying to figure out what kind of server setup I will need to support: 1K http post requests per second each post will contain a xml file between 5-50K (average of 25 kilobytes) Even if I get a 100 Mb/s connection with my dedicated box (they usually give 10 Mb/s but you can upgrade), from my calculations that is about 12K kb/s which means about 480 25kb files per second. So this means I need around 3 servers then, each with 100 Mb/s connection. Would a single server running HAProxy be able to redirect the requests to other servers or does this mean I need to get something else that can handle more than 100 Mb/s to proxy things out to the other servers? If my math is off I'd appreciate any corrections you may have.

  I'm trying to access a server that is running locally on my machine (localhost). I'm using the "wget"-command to download the servers http-response. I've also tried using the "curl"-command to do this, but both (wget and curl) are trying to get through my proxy-server and failing at it: --2010-05-04 09:05:34-- http://localhost:8080/api/getplist ... Proxy request sent, awaiting response... 503 Service Unavailable 2010-05-04 09:05:35 ERROR 503: Service Unavailable. Obviously they shouldn't need to go through the proxy, right? So I disabled the http_proxy: export http_proxy="" And then it worked fine. Disabling the the http_proxy every time or permanently are no options. How can I set it to ignore the proxy settings when accessing "localhost"?

Typically, an ApacheBench run ( 10000 requests, concurrency 1 or 40, no difference, but keepalive off) looks like this: Connection Times (ms) min mean[+/-sd] median max Connect: 2 10 152.8 3 3015 Processing: 2 8 34.7 3 663 Waiting: 2 8 34.7 3 663 Total: 4 19 157.2 6 3222 Percentage of the requests served within a certain time (ms) 50% 6 66% 7 75% 7 80% 7 90% 9 95% 11 98% 223 99% 225 100% 3222 (longest request) I have tried many things: - Apache2 2.2.9 with worker or prefork MPM, no difference (with KeepAliveTimeout 10-15) - Nginx 0.6.32 - various tcp parameters (net.core.somaxconn=3000, net.ipv4.tcp_sack=0, net.ipv4.tcp_dsack=0) - putting the files/DocumentRoot on tmpfs - shorewall on or off (i.e. empty iptables or not) - AllowOverride None is on for /, so no .htaccess checks (verified with strace) - the problem persists whether the webservers are accessed directly or through a Foundry load balancer Kernel is 2.6.32 (Debian Lenny backports), but it occurred with 2.6.26 also. IPv6 is enabled, but not used. Does the issue look familiar to anyone? Help/suggestions are much appreciated. It sounds a bit like a SYN,ACK packet getting lost or ignored.

• #include file vs iframe or is there a better way
