  • Is it possible to copy recordings off of a DVR box hard drive?

    My cable TV company gives me a Cisco Explorer 8640HDC DVR box that can record shows from TV. I know that it contains a hard drive to save the shows on. What format and file system are used to store the videos on the hard drive? I have looked at the documentation for this DVR box and there is no technical information about the manner in which recordings are stored. Is it possible to connect the hard drive to a computer and extract the recordings from it?

  • Error - "IR Hardware not detected" - but it's installed/working

    I am trying to do: Settings-TV-Set up TV signal. During this process I am getting the error "IR Hardware not detected." With the remote, I can select the "try again" button (to re-detect) and it tries again, so the remote works. Plugging in the "IR blaster" doesn't change anything. (I wouldn't expect any difference, but I read a post which said you needed that. I will get Media Center to change channels if I can get that working - but first things first.) I was able to do the setup months ago when I had cable. and everything was fine. I just got DirecTV. (BTW - During the above process, Media Center detects the signal coming in on channel 3. Windows XP Media Center SP3. The TV Tuner card is a Pinnacle TCTV HD PCI. Everything - and I mean everything - has the latest firmware and drivers - as of 4 months ago when I fixed a different problem. So I DON"T WANT TO HEAR the standard answer to check drivers/firmware.   • Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS is not recognized anymore on Mac OS X

    I have used Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS for years now, alongside with Elgato EyeTV software. I am a happy and completely satisfied user! Since a couple of weeks the USB sitck stopped working on my MacPro1,1 (OS version 10.6.3): EyeTV does not see any device attached, and actually, the green led on the stick stays off. It is not a USB port fault: I have unplugged any other USB/Firewire device and tried with different USB ports, to no avail (any other USB devices work as expected on any port) I have completely uninstalled EyeTV software, including preferences and system daemons/extensions, rebooted and reinstalled the latest EyeTV. No way. Reset the PRAM. Nope. Checked the Apple System Profiler - USB: No device attached, The MacPro does not see it at all. I need to say that: a) The device worked as a charm even with the latest OS 10.6.x (so it's not a OS upgrade cause). b) I have plugged the Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS to my MacBook5,1 where EyeTV is not installed and was never installed: The green led on the stick turns on, the growl bubble pops up, and the device is perfectly recognized by the system.     RipIt & Handbrake do a really good job of ripping and compressing. For normal "single main feature" DVDs I have a good workflow, and for the most part handbrake does a good job of figuring out what the main title is. The process for ripping a DVD that has multiple episodes of something kinda sucks. Has anyone made any progress on automating (or at least simplifying) the process of getting show-s01e01.avi from a DVD?

    I am using Windows 7 Media Center with a digital TV tuner. If I am watching live TV and then use the mouse to bring up the control buttons at the bottom of the screen and press the record button once, then a single red circle 'recording' icon appears at the left side of the time slider. If I press the record button a second time, the 'recording' icon changes to a red circle with several shadowed circles fading off to the right. Pressing the record button a third time halts the recording. What is the meaning of the two different 'recording' icons?

  • Sony Bravia (KDL-32EX402) audio connection fails

    Hey. I'm having trouble connecting my computers audio to the TV (Sony Bravia KDL-32EX402). I'm using a standard AUX cable (some kind of adapter for L/R to go into the headphone plug on the computer). I'm connecting the other end to the back of the TV, it doesn't actually say "AUDIO IN" but it has to be (is also right below the "HDMI 1 AUDIO IN). When changing to "PC-mode" and setting the audio input to "PC" nothing happens. (but the pictures get's transmitted fine by VGA). I have checked that it's not the PC's headphone port, nor the AUX cable. What to do, what to do ?

Internet Video Archive also has an API, but, well, lets just say they seem a bit incompetent. I could use YouTube, but I'd get a lot of cruft and unofficial results. Anyone else have any ideas?

  • Fix overscan in Linux with Intel graphics Vizio HDTV

    I am connecting my server to my HDTV so that I can conveniently display it there. My VIZIO HDTV cuts off all 4 edges. I already realize it is not optimal to be running a GUI on a server; this server will not have much external traffic so I prefer it for convenience. I have already spent countless hours searching for a fix, but all I could find required an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card, or didn’t work. In Windows, the Intel driver has a setting for underscan, though it seems only to be available by a glitch. Here’s my specs: Ubuntu Linux (Quantal 12.10) (Likely to switch to Arch) This is a home server computer, with KDE for managing(for now, at least) Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 from Ivy Bridge Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 CPU: Intel Core i5-3450 My monitors: Dell LCD monitor Vizio VX37L_HDTV10A 37" on HDMI input I have tried all of the following from both HDMI?HDMI and DVI?HDMI cables connected to the ports on my motherboard: Setting properties in xrandr Making sure drivers are all up to date Trying several different modes The TV was “cheap”; max resolution 1080i. I am able to get a 1920x1080 modeline, in both GNU/Linux and Windows, without difficulty. There is no setting in the menu to fix the overscan (I have tried all of them, I realize it’s not always called overscan). I have been in the service menu for the TV, which still does not contain an option to fix it. No aspect ratio settings, etc. The TV has a VGA connector but I am unsure if it would fix it, as I don’t have a VGA cable long enough, and am not sure it would get me the 1920x1080 resolution which I want. Using another resolution does not fix the problem. I tried custom modelines with the dimensions of my screen’s viewable area, but it wouldn’t let me use them. Ubuntu apparently doesn’t automatically generate an xorg.conf file for use. I read somewhere that modifying it may help solve it. I tried X -configure several times(with reboots, etc.) but it consistently gave the following error messages: In log file: … (WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Originally tried with Ubuntu 12.04, but failed and so updated to 12.10 when it was released. All software is up to date. I am not opposed to reinstalling my OS, likely will anyways (my preference being Arch).

    I'm looking for a media manager that will display and play movies and TV shows and will read data included in mp4 and m4v files. So far I've looked at XBMC, Moovida and Boxee and all of these seem to keep their own separate database or XML files for reading and storing tag information. I also looked at Banshee because of this answer, but it didn't read my tags. Banshee is also geared towards music videos instead of actual movies and TV shows. So I'm looking for software that Displays and plays movies and TV Shows Reads mp4 and m4v tags Preferably something with bulk import (i.e., I don't want to add 1,000 items to a new library) Bonus if it also has a tag editor Bonus if it's an XBMC extension

  • Access router set up as a bridge behind another router

    I have a problem my ISP is refusing to help me with, even though they put up the whole system. Specifications: There's a Thomson TG784 router through which the internet comes in to the building, Behind that (for some reason) is a Juniper NetScreen 5XT - 105 Firewall/Router? which leads to an AMX nxa-enet24 switch that carries the connections all over the building and a series of Apple AirPorts for wifi. Problem: The first router (Thomson) is required for ipTV (by Elion). The tv or ipTV box has to be connected straight to the Thomson router. My service provider cannot see the Thomson router from their side, but see the Juniper, so we might think the Thomson has been configured as a bridge. I need a way to access the Thomson router and see it's configurations, because currently, when connecting a Samsung tv to that router (with elion app for ipTV viewing) or even a computer, it cannot access the internet and even if it could, it would update the Thomson router software, losing it's configurations which I need to preserve. I'm unable to find out the Thomson routers ip address to connect to it, and when directly conencting with a cat5 cable, it doesn't give me an ip address.
