  • How to specify "PG-USERNAME" in pg_ident.conf so that it'll match any database user ?

    I need to restrict a specific unix user so that it can login with only a few select postgres usernames (with password prompt), but allowing every other user to use whatever pg username they want. Assuming restrUnixUser is the unix user name and restrUser is one of the postgres users it may use, and AllowedDB is the only database they should connect to : pg_hba.conf : local AllowedDB restrUser password local all restrUser reject local all all ident map=exceptrestrUser And pg_ident.conf : exceptrestrUser /^(?!restrUnixUser).*$ user1 exceptrestrUser /^(?!restrUnixUser).*$ user2 exceptrestrUser /^(?!restrUnixUser).*$ postgres does what I exactly want to do right now, however, I'll probably add a lot more users so I wonder if there is something like mapname unixuserpattern allpgusers that'll match with whatever username used to login by any unix user matching the pattern.

  • Buttons created through jquery don't respond to clicks

    As I've come to understand using $('.whatever').click() only works for items created initially. Additional items won't respond in the correct fashion. I was then directed to using something like $('.whatever).on('click', myFunction()). However, I'm not detecting any difference, as newly created items are not called. Here is a JSFiddle demonstration my example code: http://jsfiddle.net/atrus6/zaKZN/ My initial input plus 'Kill' will work in the correct fashion, however any additional 'input + kill's will not not do anything. Am I incorrectly using .on() or is it something else?

  • [JAVA]Int to String COmmand

    I'm trying to make a piece of code that will yell out anything I input. So the command is 'yell' I want to be able to type 'yell (whatever i want here)' and it will yell it out. I've been able to do it with numbers but I can't do it with a String. So how can I go about that? int x = Integer.valueOf(cmd[1]); n.setNextForceTalk(new ForceTalk("Number: " + x)); That piece of code allows me to type 'yell (number)' and it will come out with whatever number I type. But how can I do it with text.

  • Game Design Dilemma

    I'm working on a 2d tilemapped RPG. I've actually made quite a fair amount of progress, but I'm at a point where I need to make a UI decision. I have the overland world completely mapped out, and I have several towns and special areas. I'm on the fence about how to integrate the two. Scenario 1: I have one ginormous map, where everything is the same scale. This means you can walk in and out of towns without having to load or wait and transition in any way. With everything the same scale, movement costs the same no matter where you are (in terms of time/turns/energy/hunger/whatever/etc...)  The potential downside to this is that it could take quite a long time to get anywhere on foot. Scenario 2: I have an overland map, a set of town maps, overland tactical maps, dungeon maps & special area maps. The overland map is at a different scale than the other maps. This means that time/turns/energy/hunger/whatever/etc is calculated at a different rate than on the other maps, which have a 1:1 scale. When entering a town, dungeon, special area or having a random encounter, you would effectively zoom in from the overland scale to the tactical scale. When you are done with combat, or exit a dungeon or town, it would zoom back out to the overland map. The downside to this is that at the zoomed out scale, the overland map isn't all that big (comparitively) and you can traverse it fairly quickly (in real time, not game world time.) Options: 1) Go with scenario 1, as is. 2) Go with scenario 1 and introduce a slightly speedier version of overland travel, such as a horse. 3) Go with scenario 1 and introduce "instant" travel, via portals or some kind of "click the big map" mechanism. This would only work with places you've already been, or somehow unlocked (perhaps via a quest.) 4) Go with Scenario 2, as is.   Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?  Feedback appreciated.

  • Super+digit takes precedence over Ctrl+Super+digit

    I use Ctrl+Super+digit` to switch workspace. I also use Super+digit to start programs that are pinned to the bar (unity default). The problem is that when I try to switch workspace, if I happen to press Super before Ctrl, Super+digit is executed as if Ctrl was never pressed although it is. How do I make sure that Ctrl+Super+digit is recognized as such, whatever the order in which Ctrl and Super were pressed?

  • Create a Shortcut to Put Your Windows Computer into Hibernation

    Putting your Windows computer into Hibernation Mode allows you to save power, and quickly access your desktop again when you need it. Here we show how to create a shortcut to put your PC in Hibernation Mode quickly. Note: Here we show how to create the shortcut in Windows 7 and add it to the Taskbar. But creating the shortcut should work in XP and Vista as well. Create Shortcut  Right-click an empty area on your desktop and select New \ Shortcut from the Context Menu. In the Create Shortcut window type or copy the following in the location field… C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,0 Now give the shortcut a name such as Hibernate Computer or whatever you want to call it. Now you have the shortcut on your desktop, but you might want to change the icon to something else. Change Shortcut Icon Right-click the shortcut icon and select Properties. Select the Shortcut Tab and click the Change Icon button. In the Look for icons in this file field copy and past the following then click OK. %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll This brings up a list of included Windows icons you can choose from. Select whatever you want it to be. There are a couple of Power icons in the directory…click OK. Of course you can choose any icon you want, if you customize your icons just browse to the directory they are in. For more on selecting icons check out our article on how to customize your icons in Windows 7 or how to change a file type’s icon. Now you will see the icon in the Shortcut Properties window, click OK. Here we have a nice looking shortcut that you can use to put your machine into Hibernation. Or here we used a customized Star Trek icon just to make things more interesting… You can pin the shortcut to the Taskbar for easy access. Conclusion If Hibernation is not enabled on your Windows 7 system you can easily manage it. By creating a shortcut and pinning to the Taskbar, it allows you to put your machine into Hibernation Mode quick and easy.   • How to Customize the Internet Explorer 8 Title Bar

    If you’re looking for a way to personalize IE 8, one method is to customize the Title Bar. Here we look at a simple Registry hack that will get the job done. The Internet Explorer Title Bar is displayed on the top of the browser with the site name followed by Windows Internet Explorer by default. If you have a small office you might want to change it to the company name, or just change it something more personal at home.   Customize the IE 8 Title Bar Note: Before making any changes to the Registry, make sure to back it up. The first thing we need to do is open the Registry by typing regedit into the Search box in the Start Menu and hit Enter. With the Registry open, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Then create a new String Value and name it Window Title. Right-click on the Window Title String and enter in whatever you want to display on the Title Bar in the Value data field and click OK. When you’re done, you should see the new String called Windows Title with whatever you entered in as the value. Close out of the Registry. Restart or launch Internet Explorer and you’ll now see your new text in the Title Bar. If you want to change it to something else, just go in and modify the Value data. If you want to switch it back to the default, just go back in and delete the string we created. A lot of times you’ll see corporate branding already in the title bar from your ISP or some computer company. To get rid of it, check out The Geek’s article on how to remove it. This should work with other versions of Internet Explorer as well.   • How to refactor a Python “god class”?

    Problem I’m working on a Python project whose main class is a bit “God Object”. There are so friggin’ many attributes and methods! I want to refactor the class. So Far… For the first step, I want to do something relatively simple; but when I tried the most straightforward approach, it broke some tests and existing examples. Basically, the class has a loooong list of attributes—but I can clearly look over them and think, “These 5 attributes are related…These 8 are also related…and then there’s the rest.” getattr I basically just wanted to group the related attributes into a dict-like helper class. I had a feeling __getattr__ would be ideal for the job. So I moved the attributes to a separate class, and, sure enough, __getattr__ worked its magic perfectly well… At first. But then I tried running one of the examples. The example subclass tries to set one of these attributes directly (at the class level). But since the attribute was no longer “physically located” in the parent class, I got an error saying that the attribute did not exist. @property I then read up about the @property decorator. But then I also read that it creates problems for subclasses that want to do self.x = blah when x is a property of the parent class. Desired Have all client code continue to work using self.whatever, even if the parent’s whatever property is not “physically located” in the class (or instance) itself. Group related attributes into dict-like containers. Reduce the extreme noisiness of the code in the main class. For example, I don’t simply want to change this: larry = 2 curly = 'abcd' moe = self.doh() Into this: larry = something_else('larry') curly = something_else('curly') moe = yet_another_thing.moe() …because that’s still noisy. Although that successfully makes a simply attribute into something that can manage the data, the original had 3 variables and the tweaked version still has 3 variables. However, I would be fine with something like this: stooges = Stooges() And if a lookup for self.larry fails, something would check stooges and see if larry is there. (But it must also work if a subclass tries to do larry = 'blah' at the class level.) Summary Want to replace related groups of attributes in a parent class with a single attribute that stores all the data elsewhere Want to work with existing client code that uses (e.g.) larry = 'blah' at the class level Want to continue to allow subclasses to extend, override, and modify these refactored attributes without knowing anything has changed Is this possible? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

  • How do I detect if I'm in a 'full screen' bash shell or GUI terminal window?

    I have some code in my .bashrc that sets the terminal window title using the currently running command and it works great in Unity, where the terminal is in a window. However, when I'm logging in with the Ctrl + Alt + F1 terminal (whatever it's called), my prompt gets filled with garbage that is various escape sequences that set the (nonexistent) window title. How can I detect from within a bash script if I'm in one or the other?
