• Javascript Only Search Method [on hold]

  I need to put a search function on a website that is going to be on a CD-ROM with no access to the internet. It has 80 pages, and about 500 'items', so I'd prefer to not have to hard code 100's of 'if statements if possible. I've found a few programs you can buy that will index and generate results (Zoom Search, JSS Index, The German Guys') but there are odd quirks with each one. Plus I would rather code it myself to get complete control over it, and to really understand what it's doing. Basically searching for a few words would display the product image and description; clicking on that would take you the related URL. This is kind of complicated, I can't find an easy solution not dealing with hundreds of if Statements. Has anyone ever created anything like this or know a better method? I'm not really sure a better way to go about this. I've used PHP/MYSQL for search results before, but this cannot run any php.

• How to build list of items available in World of Warcraft?

  There are a number of non-Blizzard sites that show a complete list of available items in World of Warcraft (such as wowhead, etc). I would like to know the best (easiest) way to compile a similar list. I believe some sites are based on user-entered input, which I would like to avoid. Looking at the lua API, it seems that there are functions to get a list of items, but it's not clear if I can just download everything (I remember a reference to throttling somewhere, can't find it now). Does anyone have code samples that would do this, or links to source? Also, Eve Online has made a database of items available (and I do mean SQL database file for download, not the Armory) - is there anything similar for Wow? I'm just looking for the names and stats, not the graphic icons.

• Mouse cursor is MASSIVE inside of firefox and chromium

  While installing ubuntu i accidently hit the high contrast option. I could not figure out how to diable it within the install, so i let it complete. I booted up into ubuntu 13.04 and HC was still on. I disabled it in Universal Access, and now am noticing my mouse curose is huge in web browsers. This is very much a stock install. Is there a setting to disable the HUGE mouse? I mean the thing is 4 times the size of text etc on normal pages. and its only in broswsers from what ive seen so far. EDIT Looks like its in everthing with text.. terminal, app store, folders and files... /sigh.

  The three-step JCP evolution consists of the following JSRs: • JSR 348, JCP transparency • JSR 355, Merging the two existing Executive Committees • JSR 358, complex issues moved postponed from JSR 348 The JSR 348 is already completed and JSR 355 is scheduled to be complete later this year. JSR 358 was recently filed and plans to revise several items such as modify the JSPA, Process Document, and a large number of complex issues. Because of the nature and scope of work, the Expert Group consists of representatives from all companies in the Executive Committee.   After one has generated many grid based puzzles like sudoku, kakuro or even plain crosswords and now one has to print them in a book. How does one make a pdf (book file) from them automatically. To explain the question better. One has the puzzle ready in computer format like ..35.6.89 for all nine rows. The dot being the empty cell. How does one convert then to a picture on a PDF page complete with box, automatically without doing them individually and then print a book from the pdf file. As can be seen there are other things also printed on the page all this is done automatically.

• Massive crash and kernel panic after updates yesterday, what now?

  Got 12.04 on an AMD+radeon machine, everything was running fine until last night when the update manager installed new packages, and now the moment I open a browser (firefox, chromium, anything) it crashes instantly. It says warning: at build/buildd/linux-3.5.0/arch/x86/kernel/smp.c:123 native_smp_send_reschedule+0x5b/0x60() Pid: 2432, comm: chrome_dbthread tainted: G D 3.5.0-2generic #2-ubuntu I already tried uninstalling the packages from the update log, didn't solve a thing. Depending of which browser I use I get a different reaction, like a complete freeze instead of a text console crash. Ideas? I really don't know what to do.

• Reduced Tree View in NetBeans IDE 7.2

  Right-click within the Projects window in NetBeans IDE 7.2 and from the "View Java Packages As" menu, you can now choose "Reduced Tree".I never really understood the difference between "Reduced Tree" and the already existing "Tree". But it makes sense when you see it. Here's Reduced Tree view: And here's Tree view, where you can see that the "actions" and "nodes" packages above each have their own top level package nodes, which takes up more space than the above: What's cool is that your selected package view is persisted across restarts of the IDE. To be complete, here's the List view, which is the third option you have in the "View Java Packages As" menu: Seems to me like the new Reduced Tree view combines the best of the Tree view with the best of the List view! • 12.10 will not shut down

  I recently installed 12.04 on an hp spectre xt ultrabook. I installed 12.04 from a USB. When the install was complete, and the computer restarted, I got a blank screen. After some searching, I found that I had to choose "acpi=off" during the installation, which now shows up in the grub screen. Once I was on 12.04, I upgraded to 12.10. The issue now is that when I hit shutdown, the computer hangs on a purple shutdown screen. Usually, at this point, I press the power button on the machine to completely power off the machine. I am new to ubuntu, and would appreciate the help. Thanks.

• Empty Synchronized method in game loop

  I am studying the gameloop used in Replica Island to understand a bit about Android game development. The main loop has the below logic... GameThread.java (note the variable names in sample code dont match exact source code) while (!finished) { if (objectManager != null) { renderer.waitDrawingComplete(); //Do more gameloop stuff after drawing is complete... } } I was curious to see what waitDrawingComplete actually does, but found its just an empty syncrhonized method! I guess it does nothing, am I missing something here? • Where does Rails get it's datetime for creating records?

  I have a rails app with a data model called 'jobs' and i'm faced with a critical design choice crossroads. I don't know enough about Rails and it's inner workings to be able to say for sure what I should do despite a complete read of the rails and ruby docs. I want to be able to accurately display the age of a job record in days. So when a customer logs in, they can see that the job they submitted is 'x' days old. Where does a rails app on Heroku get it's time stamps? From Heroku? or the customers system clock? If a customer has a out of date system clock and submits a job, it could really mess up the sorting of their job list, not to mention me the overseer of job records. Any advice out there? EDIT: Just to be clear, i'm not asking how to list jobs by their date, but to which clock does a rails app on Heroku base it's records.

• What should I know before starting my first consulting project?

  I just got a job for a small project. I have all the relevant skills and knowledge to complete the project, but I am concerned about getting screwed over because this is my first time working on a consultant basis. We have already agreed on an hourly wage that I'm happy with, so that's not an issue. I'm just worried that since this is my first time working on my own, I'm going to make some mistakes that could be easily avoided if I had someone give me advice beforehand. This is what I already know to do/not do: -Get everything in writing -Limit the scope of the project. Once I start the actually coding, all features should be frozen. -Make sure to communicate constantly with my client. In addition he wants an max hourly cap. What is a good way to come up with one? What else do I need to know?

• Changing location after CommitAnimations

  I'm using the following code to move a UIImageView: shootImg.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"Projectile Left 1.png"]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; shootImg.center = CGPointMake(shootImg.center.x+1000, shootImg.center.y); [UIView commitAnimations]; This works but what I want to do is after [UIView CommitAnimations]; I want to set the location of shootImg using CGPointMake. If I just put it after commitAnimations then the animation doesn't fully complete. Any suggestions? I'm not using any frameworks like cocos2d and if you need to see any more code just ask.

• Problems with Ranking when Using Sourcing Rules And ASLs From Blanket Agreements?

  Are you using Sourcing Rules and Approved Supplier List with Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPA) and it seems like Ranking is not working correctly? For example:  The Sourcing Rule being used, has effective dates from 01-APR to 31-MAR for 2013, 2014 and 2015. One BPA is defined for Supplier A, which was originally set to Rank 1 with 100% allocation. A new BPA was created for the same item and with same effective dates as the current BPA. The BPA is for a different Supplier. When Generate Sourcing Rules is run it adds the new BPA/Supplier to the Sourcing rule, but its added as Rank 1, with the old rule changed to Rank 2. • What steps should be taken to ensure that an open source database gets ready for production?

  I am considering using GridSQL in a production environment. However, I do have some indications that it is not ready. One is that it got excluded by the offering of EnterpriseDB a while ago, and the forums seem to report a few wrong results and relatively severe bugs. The alternatives to GridSQL, however cost around 100.000$ to buy, so I was thinking to utilize some of this money to ensure that GridSQL gets ready for production. At the same time, I could risk spending 50.000$ and months of work on the development of GridSQL, just to discover that the design was flawed and that a complete rewrite is needed. Then I would have to buy the commercial alternatives to GridSQL and the existence of my startup would be at risk. Question What steps would you take to ensure that there is as little risk as possible that the worst case scenario described above would happen? It is unrealistic that I could do much testing nor code review/coding myself (I am also not the best developer), so please describe where to find the guys that would need to do the work.

  I am writing a web server using C++, which responds the following for all requests: static std::string rsp[] = { "HTTP/1.1 200 OK\r\n", "Server: WebServer\r\n", "Content-Type: text/html\r\n", "Content-Length: 3\r\n", "Connection: close\r\n", "\r\n", "123" }; the content "123" can be successfully shown in browser. But when I use apache-ab to do a test, ab always show errors like this: ab -n 1 -c 1 http://127.0.0.1:1080/ apr_socket_recv: Connection reset by peer (104) I thought that I'm closing the socket too quickly, so I commented the close() function. But ab just hold, ab seems to be waiting for a complete response.

• How do I get a Realtek Wireless USB Airlink101 AWLL5088 working?

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10, 32bit. I ordered them a Realtek Airlink101 AWLL5088 based upon the relative ease for linux installation. I am having trouble installing the drivers. I copied the drivers to /usr/src/ and ran sudo ./install.sh from that director listed above. I have tried ndiswrapper, and allowing the default drivers, but with no luck. It seems to continue to try and use the default free drivers, even though I have blacklisted them using the guide described here. There was no error, I was asked which card I was using. I looked at the packaging and at the support page, and guessed number 2, allowed to finish, and rebooted. It continued detect the wireless network after the reboot, but would never complete the connection. I would appreciate any feedback. I am kind of stuck trying to figure this out.

• Upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 stuck

  While upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, I'm stalled at the step: Installing new version of config file /etc/init/udevtrigger.conf The Terminal in the Distribution Upgrade window is expanded, there is no prompt for user input. I've hit enter a few times but it doesn't change anything but add a blank line after the last print statement. It's been sitting for ~6 hours at this stage. No other windows or dialog boxes are open. The upgrade has progressed through "Preparing to Upgrade", "Setting new software channels", and "Getting new packages". Under the progress bar (which estimates 1 day 2 hours remaining, and has for some time), it says Preparing to configure libpcap0.8. I'd take a screen-shot, but it won't let me save the file anywhere. The progress bar is about 1/3 complete.
