• USB modem could not mount on 12.04

  I have a usb wimax modem. If I connect it at ubuntu 10.04 it has been detected and mounted as cd see here. From there I got that it is "iso96660" type and device location is /dev/sr1. But when I connect this usb modem in Ubuntu 12.04, it could not be mounted. So I have tried to find the file sr1 in this location /dev/ and could not found any-thing. But if disconnect and then re-connect the usb modem at this path /dev/, I saw a flickering of "sr1" named file for a certain time (1 sec) then it's dis-appear. Can anyone guide me to connect it step-by-step in Ubuntu 12.04?

• How to log out with a command in a gnome-less environment?

  I installed various window managers (Awesome, dwm, etc.) from which I am not able to log out back to the login screen (gnome-session) in order to switch to another window manager. I need to reboot to do that, which is a waste of time. Question How can you log out via the terminal? didn't work.. dbus-send --session --type=method_call --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager /org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.Logout uint32:1 ..neither did this: gnome-session-save --force-logout ..nor that: gnome-session-quit --force-logout they all returned: Failed to call logout: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files Is there a quick way to log out back into Gnome's session manager from a non-Gnome desktop manager using a terminal emulator? I know that CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE can be configured to restart X, but I'm looking for the easiest way to log out.

  For some time now, I've run Firebug constantly enabled to do quick DOM inspections, leaving the Console and Script panels disabled. I'm just starting to use these two features so I don't have to keep using alerts for testing and debugging. I enable them while I use them and turn them back off when I'm done. I'd like to know if these particular features can slow things down such that they shouldn't be left on round-the-clock. Like do they slow down page loads, use inordinate chunks of memory or something? I don't see anything about it in the Firebug wiki.

  The ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanel provides a quick and easy way to implement a snappier, AJAX-based user interface in an ASP.NET WebForm. In a nutshell, UpdatePanels allow page developers to refresh selected parts of the page (instead of refreshing the entire page). Typically, an UpdatePanel contains user interface elements that would normally trigger a full page postback - controls like Buttons or DropDownLists that have their <code>AutoPostBack</code> property set to True. Such controls, when placed inside an UpdatePanel, cause a partial page postback to occur. • Offline apt-get update to age of cache

  I have a script to quickly upgrade a Live or fresh system from cached files on a flash drive. In essence, it looks like this: # *Code to remove and symlink /var/cache/apt/ if currently empty of packages.* sudo apt-get dist-upgrade # Quick offline cached upgrade; not limited by slow WANs. echo $'\nMake sure Internet is reachable and press enter for complete online upgrade.'; read sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade # Complete online upgrade. The problem is that the ‘cached upgrade’ seems to ignore the cached pkgcache.bin and srcpkgcache.bin which is where I assume apt-get update stores its changes, so the upgrade completes as if the system is up-to-date. Useless. So in that case, I need some code to apt-get update to the age of the package cache on my flash drive. This code would be placed between the 1st and 2nd lines of the code above.

  Over on his blog Juan has been showing you how simple it is to develop a rich Web user interface with ADF accessing Oracle E-Business Suite data and even exposing it on an iPad. In this entry I'm starting from his sample application and I'm showing how easy it is to build an interface that will look great on an iPhone (or other mobile devices) using Oracle ADF Mobile Browser. For those of you who are just using ADF and never tried ADF Mobile Browser - you'll find that the development experience is quite familiar and similar to your normal Web application development. In the latest version of JDeveloper (11.1.2.1) which I'm usingin this demo we have a built-in skin that will give your application the native iOS look and feel. In the demo I achieve this by setting the styleclass of a tr:panelHeader component to af_m_toolbar to get this. • What is the difference between Constant Vertex Attributes and Uniforms?

  According to the OpenGL ES 2.0 Programming Guide: A constant vertex attribute is the same for all vertices of a primitive, and therefore only one value needs to be specified for all the vertices of a primitive. For uniforms the book states: ...any parameter to a shader that is constant across either all vertices or fragments (but that is not known at compile time) should be passed in as a uniform. I've always used uniforms for data that is constant for a primitive but now it appears that attributes can also be used in the same way. Is there more to constant vertex attribute than simply 'they are the same as uniforms'?

They told me in the interview that the work will be use Java technology. But this is not the case. I dont want to lose my previous Java experience. And moreover, in my current company , I am working on a language which is not used anywhere. I want to change again. Can anyone please help and guide me that will there be any issue now in changing the job again.?

Thanks!] Hi all, I was a big fan of an app called "GremCheck" that was out a while back, that seems to have disappeared. It was a JavaScript included in a master page that placed an icon at the bottom of the page. It was used during testing. You could define your own tests, and the box could pop up per page and viewers would answer the questions you define (such as "Does this page have the correct title?", "Is the Grammar Correct", "Does the design look consistent"). This was useful for end-user tests groups and quick testing for developers if time was squeezed on full functional testing. Anyone know where GremCheck went, if I can get to it, and if there's anything out there that does something similar? Thanks for any help you can give!

• Enable Configurator for Return Orders

  With release 12.2.4 for non-referenced RMAs, Order Management will allow you to configure the model from Sales Order / Quick Sales Order windows. This is only allowable when profile  OM: Enable Configuration UI for RMA is set to Yes.  All selected options must be returnable, as well as all included items. Order Management explodes included items and creates options and option classes in a way similar to outbound orders. The application creates all selected components with same line number but different option/component number.  Additionally, the application does not allow re-configuration and/or deletion of any line if any line in the same configuration is received, fulfilled, closed, cancelled, or split. • Can I toggle word-wrapping on/off quickly in Gedit?

  Depending on nature of the text, some times line wrapping is convenient, some times it is just confusing. And every time I need to switch this (pretty frequently) I have to do to View - Preferences - Enable text wrapping - Close - 4 clicks, not mentioning all the hand, eye and thought motion. Can this be done a quicker way? Most of text editors have this 2 clicks away (in a menu) at maximum, some have it on a toolbar or a hot key, but I couldn;t find any quick way in Gedit :-( Maybe there is a hot key I don't know?

• Configuring Dropbox on Ubuntu server

  I've got a Ubuntu server running on an old laptop. The OS is on a 4GB USB drive and I use a SATA drive attached for storage. Now I wanted to set up Dropbox on this machine. I've got it running using this guide: http://www.byteindia.com/internet/install-dropbox-on-linux/482/. But I haven't synched yet because there won't be enough room in my home dir. My /home is on my 4GB USB since I never use it and all my data is on the 2TB drive mounted in /media/. What is the best way to set this up? Dropbox doesn't support moving the folder in Linux yet. I found a script to move the folder but it seems outdated. Perhaps I can use symlinks in some clever way? Or maybe move my /home folder to my SATA drive? Thanks in advance

• delete /var/cache/* How can I fix it?

  I accidentally remove all files in /var/cache/ directory with sudo rm -rf command. Now I can not see the files in Trash to bring them back. I would like to know how bad is the situation if these files are removed? does ubuntu going to work normally and recreate the directories in cache again automatically? If not, which directories do I have to create in /var/cache/ manually to let everything work fine? I have already manually made apt and apache2 and debconf in cache directoy but I do not know if I miss more importand directory which needed to be created there. I hope somebody can guide me to fix this issue.

• Game maps with "counties" that are split along lines that aren't necessarily straight

  I want to create a game environment that supports a 2D map. This is a really basic map, but must be split along lines that are not necessarily straight. So imagine a country with county boundaries. I then want to be able to detect drag / drop events within these counties. What I'm really looking for here is a pointer to where to start on this (how it has been done before - any existing libraries out there), as I'm sure that what I'm trying to do is not new - although I can't find a beginners guide for this anywhere.

• Freeze when installing 13.10

  guys! I encountered an installation problem when I try to make a dual boot computer of win8 and ubuntu 13.10. I follow this guide:http://overtond.blogspot.tw/2013/10/ubuntu-on-gigabyte-p34g-ultrablade.html because the same of the laptop GIGABYTE p34g. I disabled the secure boot(as well as 3D graphic acceleration and Intel rapid start as the above script advised) and start installing. However, installation got stuck like this(http://ppt.cc/iMYQ). I have been bothered by this for a week. Any advice would help, thanks!
