• What language has the best/most library bindings?

  A library binding allows a programming language to use a library written in another language. Most commonly you want to access a C library like libcurl from a language like PHP or Python. Not all bindings are created equally, for instance the libcurl binding for Python was abandoned almost 3 years ago and their sf.net bug tracker is overrun with unsolved problems. PHP on the other hand has very good libcurl bindings that are actively maintained. So here is my question: What language has the best and/or the most bindings?

• Handheld device software - Handheld tuners?

  Hey I've been looking around and really don't understand what software some of these company's use for their handheld devices. I've used a lot of Handheld Tuners (Cobb Accessport, Diablo Sport). I've gotten more and more knowledgable of programming and I'm really wanting to understand what software they use on these devices to have a graphical interface. And to hold all the files to flash over to the ecu. I'm just unsure how you would get basically all the components to work together (screen, buttons, memory) without having drivers installed. I could be totally wrong here on using the term drivers, but that's what I would like some help to get more knowledge on (only thing I've really found is making a handheld game boy from scratch,but that was using a emulator.). I've tried looking it up but can't really find a good write up or explanation anywhere I look. Just really would like to put a little device together and have a simple user interface and work from there. Thanks, Nathan

• Sidestep Automatically Secures Your Mac’s Connection on Unsecure Networks

  If you’re wary of browsing on wide open public Wi-Fi networks (and you should be), Sidestep is a free Mac application that routes your connection on an unsecure network through a secure proxy. Sidestep automatically detects when you are on an unprotected wireless network and forms an encrypted tunnel to the proxy you specified during setup. Anytime you login a wide open Wi-Fi node (such as at a coffee shop, airport, or other public area) you won’t be broadcasting your login credentials and other personal information in what amounts to plain text into the air around you. Anyone snooping on you or the network in general will simply see your stream of encrypted data going to the proxy. • Cities from Space: A Tour of Urban Planning Patterns

  While many cities developed haphazardly and organically with little structured planning, other cities were developed following strict organization–organization that reveals itself beautifully when seen from space. Wired magazine shares a roundup of ten well-planned cities viewed with a satellite’s eye. Among the roundup our favorite is the oldest, seen in the photo above: This nine-pointed fortress is perhaps the best example of a planned city from the Renaissance. Palmanova was built in 1593 and is located in the northeastern corner of Italy near the border with Slovenia. It was intended to be home to a completely self-reliant utopian community that could also defend itself against the Ottomans. It had three guarded entrances, ramparts between each of the star points and eventually a moat. Sadly, nobody was willing to move there. Eventually it was used as free housing for pardoned criminals. • Tips or techniques to use when you don't know how to code something?

  I have a background as UI designer. And I realized that it is a bit hard for me to write a pieces of logic. Sometimes I get it right, but most of the time, I end up with something hacky (and it usually takes a lot of time). And is not that I don't like programming, in fact, I'm starting to like it as much as design. It's just that sometimes I think that I'm better at dealing with colors an shapes, rather than numbers and logic (but I want to change that). What I usually do is to search the solution on the Internet, copy the example, and insert it into my app (I know this is not a very good practice). I've heard that one tip was to write the logic in common English as comment before writing the actual code. What other tips and techniques I can use?

• Per fragment lighting with OpenGL 4.x tessellated model

  I'm experienced with OpenGL 3+. I'm dabbling with tessellation shaders and have now got to a point where I have a nicely tessellated teapot/plane demo (quick look here) As can be seen from the screenshots, the lighting is broken (though admittedly doesn't look too bad in the image) I've tried to add a normal map to the equation but it still doesn't come out right, I can calculate the normals, tangents and binormals per triangle in the geometry shader but still looks wrong. I think the question would be; How do I add per fragment lighting to a tessellated model? The teapot is 32 16-point patches, the plane is one single 16 point patch. The shaders are here, but they are a complete mess, so I don't blame anyone who cant make sense of them. But peruse at your leisure if you like. Also, if this question is more suited to be somewhere else i.e. Stack Overflow or the Programming stack please let me know.

  While the basic shape of keyboards has remained largely unchanged over the last thirty years, the guts have undergone several transformations. Read on to explore the history of the computer keyboard. ComputerWorld delves into the history of the modern keyboard, including the heavy influence IBM’s extensive keyboard research on early keyboards: As far as direct influences on the modern computer keyboard, IBM’s Selectric typewriter was one of the biggest. IBM released the first model of its iconic electromechanical typewriter in 1961, a time when being able to type fast and accurately was a highly sought-after skill. Dag Spicer, senior curator at the Computer History Museum, notes that as the Selectric models rose to prominence, admins grew to love the feel of the keyboard because of IBM’s dogged focus on making the ergonomics comfortable. “IBM’s probably done more than anyone to find [keyboard] ergonomics that work for everyone,” Spicer says. So when the PC hit the scene a decade or two later, the Selectric was largely viewed as the baseline to design keyboards for those newfangled computers you could put in your office or home. • Good resources for learning about graphics hardware

  I'm looking for some good learning resources for graphics hardware (and associated low level software). Basically I want to learn more about what goes on underneath the opengl/direcx API layers in terms of how things are implemented. I familiar with what happens in principle during the various stages of the rendering pipeline (viewing, projection, clipping, rasterization etc). My goal is to be able to make better and more informed decisions about tradeoffs and potential optimisations when graphics/shader programming with respect to the following kinds of issues; batching view culling occlusions draw order avoiding state changes triangles vs pointsprites texture sampling etc Basically whatever the graphics programmer needs to know about modern graphics hardware in order to become more effective. I'm not really looking for specific optimisation techniques, rather I need more general knowledge so that I will naturally write more efficient code.

  When I write programs I using pass by value or pass by reference always seem to be logical methods. When learning about different programming languages I came across pass by name.
