What is the language with the lowest barriers to entry, simplest syntax, easiest setup. I'm aware that there's not a best language but I am sure that there will be one that's got a good score in all three areas.
It's for teaching friends how to program, I like PHP and Python but I don't want to be narrow minded and limit myself when there is a better option out there.
Common suggestions
Ruby
Python
Basic
C
Java

I am wondering if someone would be willing to post the database structure for a vBulletin message board? The SQL or screen shots would be nice.
I am currently setting out a business plan for a website that will include a message forum, however, assessing the $195-$295 message board fee has me thinking about other possible solutions. I am brave.

Hello,
I'm trying to pass parameters to a control in codeigniter, but I'm getting 404 page not found error, I don't get it, I did what the guide says: http://codeigniter.com/user_guide/general/controllers.html#passinguri
<?php
class Main extends Controller {
function index($username) {
echo $username;
}
}
?>
How can I get more info regarding this error from codeigniter?
Thank you.
I offer a small Web Services API to my clients which I plan to evolve over time. So I need some sort of versioning, but I can't find any information about how you do something like that.
Is there a best practise?
How can I keep adding new functionality without breaking compatibility with the web services consumers?

I have a program that generates a .shp file, and exports this as a kml file. I would like to be able to display my output using the standard google map 'map' style (gray background, yellow streets, etc) in google earth.
Is there a style guide or method that I should be using?
Any thoughts appreciated - I wasn't sure how to structure this question.
Thank you.
I'm looking for a way to add a Subject Alternative Name in my certificate request in the IIS 6.0 certificate creation wizard.
It seems I can only fill the Subject field and not the Subject Alternative Name.
Trying to follow this guide (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931351) using certreq.exe doesn't help, it fails without any hint except that it prints its manual.
Any suggestions appreciated, I hope I won't have to export my public key and generate the csr with openssl :/
Please explain me in simple terms (if possible simple example) the covariance and contravariance in c# .net .
I know many are available(even in stackoverflow) but my problem is in which scenario I should use that is not explained in the articles that I am refering to.
e.g.
Covariance and Contravariance in Delegates (C# Programming Guide)
Thanks
How big task is it to implement support for Arabic localization, our Java 1.5 Applet was designed as fully localizable (european languages) but now we plan to add also arabic as a new language.
We are using custom GUI text i/o components inherited from Component class using e.g. Drawstring, how well is arabic supported within Component class ?
The keyboard input is done with KeyListener getKeyChar, getKeyCode etc.
From the docs:
When Core Data turns an object into a
fault, key-value observing (KVO)
change notifications (see Key-Value
Observing Programming Guide) are sent
for the object’s properties. If you
are observing properties of an object
that is turned into a fault and the
fault is subsequently realized, you
receive change notifications for
properties whose values have not in
fact changed.
So if an object turns into a fault, Core Data does send KVO notifications for changed properties? So I must always check for isFault == NO before beeing happy about the notification?
Whilst working in Silverlight I am always fighting the urge to work on the screen design rather than coding the behaviour (which is what I should be doing). My cunning plan is to find a theme that looks something like MS SketchFlow or Balsamiq which will remind me of the draft nature of the screens whilst being somewhat prettier than the default look & feel of Silverlight.
Does anyone know of such a theme? Alternatively can anyone give advise on how they overcame there design addiction :)
Thanks,
Dan
I'm integrating with an existing servlet that pulls some properties out of the HTTP header. Basically, I'm implementing an interface that doesn't have access to the actual request, it just has access to a map of k-v for the HTTP headers.
I need to pass in a request parameter. The plan is to use a servlet filter to go from parameter to header value but of course the HttpServletRequest object doesn't have an addHeader() method.
Any ideas?
I want to know if I can use something like this : If yes, then what will be order ? I dont seem to understand quite well the explain plan of mysql
Select * from results where TestCase NOT IN (select TestCase from results where Verdict <> 'PASS' and StartTime > DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 2 MONTHS)) and TestCase IN (Select TestCase from testcases where Type = 'NONOS')
EDIT : Also how can I order by StartTime to display the latest first?

I need a simple how-to tutorial on developing a simple CMS web site using the OFBiz CMS framework. There are absolutely no documentation of how OFBiz CMS works. Whatever is there in the official website is only about the data model used in OFBiz CMS application.
If somebody can illustrate just a "Hello World" like application in OFBiz CMS, it will great help for me. Or can guide me to similar documents in web.

I am very interested in changing the way I tackle applications to integrate TDD / UnitTesting.. But I don't want to go down the MVC route just yet, and would like to see via Video a beginners guide to using TDD.
How you set it up, use it in VS2008 etc...
Found UI guidelines of Launcher icon design http://d.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design.html but System Icons in recent Android releases doesn't seem to follow these guidelines (icons are flat instead simplified 3D perspective, as described in document).
Are they already obsolete and what are the current guidelines ?
I'm doing:
select * from mytable y
where y.year = (select max(yi.year)
from mytable yi
where yi.person = y.person)
Is that better or worse from a performance aspect than:
select y.* from mytable y
left outer join mytable y2
on y.year < y2.year
and y.person = y2.person
where y2.year is null
The explain plan/anecdotal evidence is inconclusive so I am wondering if in general one is better than the other.
