• Split DC role from existing Exchange 2007 server

  We currently have a single Exchange 2007 Server on Windows Server 2008. It's also a DC and I'd like to split the DC role to a different box. Is this doable without migrating the mailboxes off to a temporary box, re-installing and migrating back? I.e. can I just demote the server without breaking Exchange completely? I know this was quite painful with Server 2003/Exchange 2003, so I'm trying to get an idea of how much different the process is for Server 2008/Exchange 2007.

• Reconnecting OST with Exchange

  Hi. I have a quite big problem with customer's MS Exchange. The server got it's disk filled about 2 weeks ago, so it's currently offline. They plan to upgrade it, but not in hurry, as they use it mainly for OWA and back-up - the mails exchange is done via SMTP and POP3. Trying to diagnose some problem today, one of the users has (following the ISP instructions), removed the Exchange account from Outlook, which essentially left the OST orphaned. The user naturally didn't move the emails or any other data to the Archive / PST before, so these emails located on the OST only. So currently I'm trying to figure out how to restore them. There are 2 options: 1) Make the user buy some tool to convert them to PST, and import as archive / main Outlok file? 2) Reconnect the Outlook to Exchange (once it up), let it sync the old server content, then shutdown Outlook and replace the new OST with the old one, start Outlook again in offline mode and move these files to archive. 3) Any other method? Can someone advice what would be the best approach here? The used versions are Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003. Thanks!

  i have setup an exchange 2010 account on microsoft outlook 2010 and i can read my emails, but i am not able to send emails, when i create a new email and click send, the messages are not sent, they don't even get to the outbox folder. my guess is that the issue is not from exchange itself, becuase i can send emails with this exchange account with java code using smtp port 25 please advise how to fix this issue.

  Like the Topic says: Our Exchange Server accidentally forwards sent mails from one User to another User's Inbox. The sent mails are mostly to Outbound Adresses and they where successfully delivered but all those sent Mails are accidentally forwarded into our Info Mail account. There are no Outlook rules defined and the forward routing in exchange is not used, for such things. I really don´t know the cause of the problem and i don´t know where I have to look, because I´m new to exchange...

• Exchange 2003 ActiveSync problem with certificate

  We're having problems getting iPhones to sync properly with SBS 2003 Exchange. When you add a new Exchange ActiveSync account on an iPhone and enter all the pertinent information, it shows a "Verifying Exchange account info" message for a minute or so, then says everything's verified and asks what you want to sync, Mail, Contacts, Calendars... so it looks like it's working. However, when you go to the Mail app and select the Exchange email account, it just shows an "Inbox" folder with nothing in it. When you try refreshing, it attempts for a second, then says "Last Updated" with a timestamp, as if it worked, but there's no mail and no error message/feedback at all. I think I've narrowed it down to some sort of certificate issue, but I'm having trouble finding out where to go from here... I ran MS's Exchange connectivity testing tool with these results: Our cert was purchased from Network Solutions, and I'd already added it to the IIS Default Website for OWA purposes. But this report makes it look like the cert is somehow problematic. I don't know what to do now... Here's a shot of the cert details, just in case:

• SharePoint, Exchange and Incoming Emails Without Directory Management Services

  Trying to keep this as simple as possible. We've already created the email accounts that we need (e.g. account[1-20]@domain.com) on Exchange/AD. We'd like to now enable incoming emails on SharePoint 2007 lists corresponding to these accounts. My thinking is we don’t need to configure Directory Management Services [2] – the architecture will be simpler without it and the application doesn’t require these services. However, we still need to route messages from Exchange to either local SMTP services (via the connector described in the articles below) or by user-specific drop-folder settings (if permitted by Exchange). So the question is: can we instruct Exchange to use a drop folder just for accounts account[1-20]@domain.com? or do we need to change the accounts to account[1-20]@sharepointsmtp.domain.com and re-route those message to the local SMTP service that will drop them on disk?   Exchange 2010 sp2 Outlook 2007/2010 Server 2008 I have managed to set up several room mailboxes in exchange, people are able to book the rooms and they get a response from the exchange server. this is brilliant. however users are unable to view the calendar of the room mailbox to see what times are available, in a ideal world I would like users to only see if the room is free or not. I dont want users to see the details of the meeting (title, description etc) I have been trying to do this using the following command Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity meetingroom -User "Usergroup" -AccessRights AvailabilityOnly -DomainController AD-Server This throws the following error Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. • How do I make a LDAP query-based dynamic distribution group in Exchange 2010

  I see that there were ways in Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 to just put in an LDAP query and it would populate the group for you. Is there any way to do that in Exchange 2010? I know there's dynamic distribution groups but I don't want to create the group based on one of their pre-set queries and I don't want to mess around with "custom attributes". I just want to put an LDAP query in there and make it run it to populate the distribution group.

• Exchange 2003 mailbox migrated to 2010 not showing up in Address book

  I have migrated about 45 mailboxes at this point from our single instance of Exchange 2003 to a High Availability Exchange 2010 environment successfully. However one mailbox moved successfully and the user is able to send and receive e-mail internally and externally with no problems but they do not show up in the Global Address List. The OAB is owned by an Exchange 2010 mailbox server. What am I missing?

  I am trying to move a mailbox from one user account to another within a single AD domain. We are using Exchange 2007. I have followed these steps: Disable the account From "Disconnected Mailbox" container, connect to the new account I get a success message When I try to login to OWA using the new user account, I get this message: Outlook Web Access could not connect to Microsoft Exchange. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization. NOTE: I changed some identifying information for security purposes. I have tried multiple times and get to the same place. When I login to OWA with old account, I get an error that the mailbox cannot be found, which makes total sense. Does anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks!

• Exchange 2010 update timezone of all calendar items

  We are currently operating Exchange 2010 server with Outlook 2010 clients on a ship. We have just changed timezones for the first time in quite a while today. Is there any way to rebase all the calendars and/or update all the calendar items to the new timezone at the same time? I have looked at the following tools already. Microsoft Exchange Calendar Update Configuration Tool - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6266 (Doesn't support exchange 2010) Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17291 The Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook does work for individual users, but has some serious downsides. Including each user needs to run it (approx 400 users), and also it only seems to work on the default account in Outlook 2010, a lot of our users have role accounts as well that we would need to run the tool on. The only way I can find to get this tool to run on the role accounts is to make the role account the default account in outlook, and that in itself is quiet an involved process especially if you have 2 or 3 role accounts. So is there a way to just change all calendar items on our Exchange server to a different timezone in one go? We are a little unique in terms of the whole organisation can change timezones over night, meeting rooms and all, but surely a product as advanced as Exchange 2010 allows us to do what we need.

I'd like to send a notification email to an outside email when a user receives a message on the internal exchange server. This message would simply say "A Message has been sent to your XYZ Email, go check it" Theoretically, the AD would have an external email address associated with the user's AD Account. I'm hoping that a process could be triggered when an email is received on this exchange server and I could take some type of action to look up the AD account for the recipient, grab the external email address and send a standard email to that user.   My exchange box went offline this AM. The logs show The device, \Device\Harddisk1, has a bad block. I tried running chkdsk D: /x /r but that didn't help either. I went to the Exchange Manager and tried to move the .stm file from D: to C: but got Exchange System Manager The database files in this store are corrupted. ID no: c104173b Exchange System Manager What else is there to try just to get this online for a few hours until I can get onsite to change the drive. This is a Windows Server 2003 server.

I want to determine from an auditing perspective what level of risk exists/what trust can be put into Exchange database records. Is there a (mis)feature that allows end point users to modify the sent/recieved date fields on their own messages? Is there a reasonable way short of hand editing the files for an Exchange Server admin to make such a change? • Exchange and external mail server

  Hi, We have our domain hosted externally with Network Solutions, and our mail server is running from there. We have a branch office in Bahrain and have 3 users who would like to use their email addresses on a local exchange server running at the Bahrain office. The Exchange server is currently only used for internal mail,contacts and calendaring. I've used a third=party program to download the POP3 mail to their exchange accounts. so they can receive mail from outside. The issue is in sending mail using their external addresses. I've setup their exchange accounts to include their external address. But we get an error message stating that the IP is not authorized. I tried putting the local ISP as the smart host, but then we get an error message stating that the Address was rejected. I tried using our own external mail server as the smart host, but then the message "Relaying is denied" comes up. Any suggestions? Thanks Arun

• Exchange 2003 very reliant of 1 on 4 AD servers, Freezes without it

  On-site we have 3 of 4 AD servers (AD1,AD2 and AD4) with AD1 having most of the Operational Master Roles, however when AD2 goes down, freezes or reboots outlook says 'waiting for exchange server AD2', when exchange is on a different box completely. AD4 was just built from scratch and added hoping to get around this reliance on AD2 but it doesn't seem to have any effect, had a look through exchange settings and couldn't find any locations it points to AD2 and no other active directory servers. Would appreciate some help on the matter, Thank You

• Is there anyway way to speed up Exchange 2007's Load Generator tool?

  I'm running Load Generator to test our new deployment before going live and the initialization process has been running for two days and is only at 25% for ~58000 user test. Does anyone know of a way to speed up this process? Surely it shouldn't take this long. Currently, I've got it running with one master and two remote servers and they aren't peaking out on CPU or Network utilization. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
