  • Webpage layout order for my webapp - does it matter if the Sidebar is programmatically displayed bef

    - by Jack W-H
OK that's the worst title I could ever possibly think up. But I'm not too sure how to phrase it! What I mean is, is it inefficient for the browser, search engine optimisation, or any other important factors, if programmatically my float:righted sidebar appears in the markup before the main content div, which is set to float:left? To the user, the main content appears on the left, and the sidebar on the right. In the source code it appears like so: <div id="sidebar">This is where my sidebar goes </div> <div id="content">This is where my content goes </div> Will this affect SEO or other factors in my page?

  • Layout Bug in IE (div relative)

    - by Florian
Hi, I have a problem with IE (all versions). I have a header div with a relative position and inside this another div with absolute position and right alignment. <div id="header" style="position: relative; width: 1000px; height: 60px;"> content http://stadtwerke-bitburg.de/fileadmin/overflow_prob_IE.png Now when I open the pulldown menu in FF/Safari/Opera everything is all right. Whereas in IE everything which is taller than 60px disappears behind my header div. Is there a workaround for this problem with CSS or do I have to write javascript to get this fixed? thx TC

  • Tracking EXC_BAD_ACCESS on iPad

    - by Aleks
I've been using this code to create my UIWindow UIMyWindow* win = [[UIMyWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] applicationFrame]]; UIMyWindow isn't anything special it just has a pointer to a C++ class that does some wrapping of ObjectiveC. Recently my application start crashing after adding some line of code that doesn't have to do anything with the error. The line of code that I added is just allocating a C++ object but the program execution never reaches this line. Interesting enough my code works in Release. My only guess is that I made some memory corruption on a completely different place. My questions are: What type of memory corruption that can be? And is there some good practices to track them down?

  • Write large PDFs with Java sequentially

    - by Benjamin Muschko
I am looking for a Java library that let's you write large PDFs sequentially with a minimum amount of memory. Most of the libraries I had a look at has to build up the document in memory first before you can actually write it. The problem I have to deal with are OutOfMemoryErrors. It would be great if I could flush the writer programmatically whenever needed e.g. for each page. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need something with a license along the lines of the LGPL (so not the GPL or the Affero GPL that iText uses).

  • create a sparse BufferedImage in java

    - by elgcom
I have to create an image with very large resolution, but the image is relatively "sparse", only some areas in the image need to draw. For example with following code /* this take 5GB memory */ final BufferedImage img = new BufferedImage( 36000, 36000, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB); /* draw something */ Graphics g = img.getGraphics(); g.drawImage(....); /* output as PNG */ final File out = new File("out.png"); ImageIO.write(img, "png", out); The PNG image on the end I created is ONLY about 200~300 MB. The question is how can I avoid creating a 5GB BufferedImage at the beginning? I do need an image with large dimension, but with very sparse color information. Is there any Stream for BufferedImage so that it will not take so much memory?

  • how much concurrent http request can erlang handle

    - by user209123
I am developing a application for benchmarking purposes, for which I require to create large number of http connection in a short time, I created a program in java to test how much threads is java able to create, it turns out in my 2GB single core machine, the limit is variable between 5000 and 6000 with 1 GB of memory given to JVM after which it hits outofmemoryerror with heap limit reached. It is suggested around that erlang will be able to generate much more concurrent processes, I am willing to learn erlang if it is capable of solving the problem , although I am interested in knowing can erlang be able to say generate somewhere around 100000 processes which are essentially http requests waiting for responses, in a matter of few seconds without reaching any limit like memory error etc.,

  • fieldset form with Table-like layout with CSS?

    - by Scott B
I have an application in which I'm currently using a two column table in order to get accurate cell alignment of the left column labels/descriptions with the right column form fields. I'd like to convert it to css and use jQuery to expand/collapse specific sections. I've seen some jQuery libraries, the menu.js in particular. And they appear to all use list items for the markup. I'm OK with converting my table to UL/LI structure if that's what I need to do. Just looking for some advice.

  • Garbage Collection leak? Scripting Bridge leak?

    - by Y.Vera
Hello everyone! I'm always really picky about memory leaks and I cannot understand why my garbage collected application leaks. My code is entirely memory-managed and it runs great without garbage collection, not a single leak. However, as soon as I turn on garbage collection it leaks! Just to prove a point, why does this leak in a garbage collected app? (place this dummy code at applicationDidFinishLaunching:) NSOpenPanel *panel = [NSOpenPanel openPanel]; [panel beginSheetModalForWindow:window completionHandler:^(NSInteger result) {NSBeep();}]; Also, is there a way to prevent leaks in apps (garbage collected or otherwise) that use Scripting Bridge? it seems as if they all leak, even the sample ones in xcode. Thanks everybody!

  • listview tile layout problem (vb.net)

    - by Matt Facer
hi guys, I have a listview which displays (eventually) an album cover of an itunes play list with the album name under it. the problem I am having is that I cannot get the album art (currently a blank square) ABOVE the album name. It always is on the side... how do I do it? I've tried adding column headers and alsorts... code to set up the listview Dim myImageList As ImageList albumList.View = View.Tile albumList.TileSize = New Size(120, 150) ' Initialize the item icons. myImageList = New ImageList() myImageList.Images.Add(Image.FromFile("c:/test.jpg")) myImageList.ImageSize = New Size(80, 80) albumList.LargeImageList = myImageList I then do a loop to display each album name which uses Dim item0 As New ListViewItem(New String() _ {Albums(i).Name}, 0) albumList.Items.Add(item0) the output is http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n122/mfacer/Screenshot2010-05-02at164815.png but as i said, I want the album name under the orange box.... any ideas?? Thanks for any info!

  • C# programmer - necessary to learn C or C++?

    - by Kurresmack
Hey, I have been programming now for a couple of years. But never any low level language. I started off with some java and some VB. Then I went over to VB.NET and now for a while I have been writing C#. As you see, I have never written any low level language where I had to deal with memory management. Is this something I should do, like a route of passage that every programmer should go through? I am a bit keen on trying to perhaps writing in assembler directly. This would suit me personally good as I have 2 parents that have been writing assembler for ages. Is it necessary for a professional programmer these days to know how to manually manage memory?

  • Memory release from local variable in javascript

    - by Bob
Quick question. I have a js function which gets called on the page every few seconds. It's an ajax update thing. Being a function, I declare local variables. I don't want to use closures or global variables for various reasons. I'd never considered this, but do I need to release/clear the variables at the end of the function to release memory or will js do this for me automatically ? Thanks

  • Visual Studio appears to randomly adopt american keyboard layout

    - by HollyStyles
Gah! this is really causing me hassle today. Suddenly without warning '@' (at symbol) and '"' (double quote) are trading places on my keyboard but ONLY in Visual Studio 2008 !!! I can't seem to find anything in help or online to explain/remedy this. Is there some keyboard shortcut I am inadvertantly executing?? I rebooted my PC and it went away for an hour or two and then suddenly came back. Oh the insanity :(

  • keyboard layout direction

    - by mike
hi, I would like to detect the direction of the current typing (input) language. I may detect the language by means of "GetKeyboardLayout", but then I'll have to check if it equals to Arabic or Hebrew and so on, is there any way just to detect the direction, i.e. left to right or right to left. thanks! mike.

  • Layout form fields horizontally

    - by Don
    I'm using Ext JS 2.3.0 and have a bunch of fields contained within a FieldSet I'd like to have them laid out side-by-side instead, ideally with the label on top of the field instead of to the left of it. The relevant code is: var kpiFilterCombo = new Ext.form.ComboBox({ name: 'kpi', store: this.dashboardInst.servicesModel.getAvailableKPIsStore() }); var kpiLower = new Ext.form.TextField({ fieldLabel: "Lower", name: 'lowerBound' }); var kpiUpper = new Ext.form.TextField({ fieldLabel: "Higher", name: 'upperBound' }); var kpiFilterFieldset = new Ext.form.FieldSet({ title: locale['label.kpi.condition'], checkboxToggle: true, collapsed: true, autoHeight:true, items : [ kpiLower, kpiFilterCombo, kpiUpper, ] });

  • If I CFRelease() an image in core data, how do I get it back?

    - by Sam
My iphone app plays a slide show made up of 5 user images.  These images are stored using core data.  I was noticing that memory was building up every time a different slide show was played and it was not releasing any of the previously played slide shows.   These images are showing up in Object Allocations as CFData. So I tried releasing this data in the dealloc method CFRelease(slideshow.image1); CFRelease(slideshow.image2); CFRelease(slideshow.image3); CFRelease(slideshow.image4); CFRelease(slideshow.image5); This releases the previous slideshow great...BUT when I go back to view that same slideshow again, it crashes.   I am guessing that I need to alloc/init these images again, but I am not sure how?  Or maybe I should be managing this memory in a different way?

  • ASP MVC2 - Dynamic Field Layout

    - by Rob
I'm new to MVC and ADO.net Entity Framework. Instead of having to create an edit/display for each entity, I'd like to have the controller base class generate the view and validation code based off metadata stored in a table - something along those lines. I would imagine something like this has already been done, or there are good reasons for not doing it. Any insight or suggestions are appreciated.

  • Invisible sprites still take up a lot in memory

    - by numerical25
Just curious, if I have a sprite on the stage with the alpha set to 0 does that take up just as much memory as a sprite that is visible? I imagine it does because it draws the sprite to the stage and then it has to set the alpha to zero. It may seem like a stupid question but I just wanted to verify.

  • Ruby on Rails user login form in main layout

    - by Jimmy
Hey guys I have a simple ror application for some demo stuff. I am running into a problem with trying to move my login form from the users controller and just have it displayed in the main navigation so that a user can easily log in from anywhere. The problem is the form doesn't generate the correct action for the html form. Ruby code: <% form_for(url_for(:action => 'login'), :method => 'post') do |f| %> <li><%= f.text_field("username") %></li> <li><%= f.password_field("password") %></li> <li><%= submit_tag("Login")%></li> <% end %> The problem is depending on the controller I am currently in this generates HTML actions like <form action="/home" method="post">...</form> when it should be generating HTML like so <form action="/login" method="post">...</form> I know I could simply do an HTML form here but I want to keep things as easy to maintain as possible. Any help?
