  • Classes. Whats the point?

    I'm fairly new to OOP in PHP, I've made a couple of basic scripts but nothing impressive. All I've really taken from it is that it would probably be easier just make a collection of functions and include them. The structure of classes seems to just confuse what was otherwise a simple process. And in collating everything into a class it doesn't really add any functionality. So I'm clearly missing something. Could someone explain what functionality is added by creating classes

  • iphone scrolling ticker example?

    I'm looking at adding a user comment ticker to my iPhone/iPad polling app (Show of Hands). The comments would obviously need to be pulled from a central web source - either a database or perhaps even simple flat files. The ticker would also need to support basic controls (speed, pause, etc.) Can anyone that had tried doing something like this point me to your work and/or pass along any implemetation ideas?     I have gone through with some of the sample examples of blackberry. And in some classes I have found some variables are starting from _ like _address and some of them are ALLCAPS. So, i guess it's bit different then the basic Java naming conventions. So, can anybody let me know that is there any difference between Java and blackberry naming convention ? Thanks in advance.

    Hi All, I have a JAR on the build path of a medium sized Java application and I would like to know where it's used. At the most basic level if someone could tell me how to 'Find References' for a Jar that would be great. Whilst I'm looking at dependencies it would be great to find a tool that would map all of my package / external library usages and graph them. They could move themselves around the arena, look for opponents in different directions, and fire some sort of weapon.     I am looking to build a widget for a site which allows users to tag images from individual frames of a video file but would prefer not to have to build a custom Flash tool. Is there an existing free library or framework which simplifies things like this in a webapplication setting? Features would also involve basic video playback functionality as well as time-driven meta-data and the ability to extract images from individual video frames. Are there existing open-source web-based tools for video manipulation other than building your own custom Flash app?

  • Are there any programmable barcode scanners that can call a webservice?

    I am looking at integrating a C# application with a barcode scanner. The last time I did this was with Delphi 1 (win 3.11) using a scanner that plugged in-line into the keyboard cable. Looking around it appears most scanners are USB based these days and assume they emulate keyboard entry. Anybody know of more sophisticated/programmable scanner that can call a webservice or even just do a basic POST/GET this would eliminate the C# application and the computer to support it?

    Am pretty new to ROR. Need help in Rails form validation. Am using rails 2.3.5 I have a basic validates_presence_of for the fields in the form. Now when i don't enter field details, i do get an error, but the error is displayed as: {{count}} errors prohibited this {{model}} from being saved There were problems with the following fields: {{attribute}} {{message}} {{attribute}} {{message}} Any help will be highly appreciated.
