• XML Serialization in C# without XML attribute nodes

  Hello, I have an XML document format from a legacy system that I have to support in a future application. I want to be able to both serialize and deserialize the XML between XML and C# objects, however, using the objects generated by xsd.exe, the C# serialization includes the xmlns:xsi..., xsi:... etc XML attributes on the root element of the document that gets generated. Is there anyway to disable this so that absolutely no XML attribute nodes get put out in the resulting XML ? The XML document should be elements only. Duplicate? XmlSerializer: remove unnecessary xsi and xsd namespaces

• Add an objective @property attribute in objective-c

  Does anyone know of a way to add additional attribute types to the @property keyword without modifying the compiler? Or can anyone think of another way to genericize getter/setter creation? Basically, I have a lot of cases in a recent project where it's handy for objects to lazily instantiate their array properties. This is because we have "event" objects that can have a wide variety of collections as properties. Subclassing for particular events is undesirable because many properties are shared, and it would become a usability nightmare. For example, if I had an object with an array of songs, I'd write a getter like the following: - (NSMutableArray *)songs { if (!songs) { songs = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } return songs; } Rather than writing dozens of these getters, it would be really nice to get the behavior via... @property (nonatomic, retain, lazyGetter) NSMutableArray *songs; Maybe some fancy tricks via #defines or something? Other ideas?

• MVC Authorize Attribute + HttpUnauthorizedResult + FormsAuthentication

  After browsing the MVC section on CodePlex I noticed that the [Authorize] attribute in MVC returns a HttpUnauthorizedResult() when authorization fails (codeplex AuthorizeAttribute class). In the source of HttpUnauthorizedResult() from CodePlex is the code (I'm not allowed to enter another URL as my rep isn't high enough, but replace the numbers on the URL above with 22929#266476): // 401 is the HTTP status code for unauthorized access - setting this // will cause the active authentication module to execute its default // unauthorized handler context.HttpContext.Response.StatusCode = 401; In particular, the comment describes the authentication module's default unauthorized handler. I can't seem to find any information on this default unauthorized handler. In particular, I'm not using FormsAuthentication and when authorization fails I get an ugly IIS 401 error page. Does anyone know about this default unauthorized handler, and in particular how FormsAuthentication hooks itself in to override it? I'm writing a really simple app for my football team who confirm or deny whether they can play a particular match. If I enable FormsAuthentication in the web.config the redirect works, but I'm not using FormsAuthentication and I'd like to know if there's a workaround.

• Access Products/Category/Attribute Info from php with Magento API

  Need to be able to pull Magento products into an external template. Need to be able to get all products data (description, title, attributes, categories, image, etc). And need to be able to filter by category, attribute and also search on name. These calls will be made from the same server that the Magento install is on. What's the best way to do this? Will be using php on both linux & windows (2 separate sites). Have tried using the Magento API & Soap to access from php but haven't been able to get that to work yet. All I get is this error every time. • How do you clean Core Data generated models and code from a project?

  I'm having an extremely annoying problem with Core Data in the iPhone SDK. I would say in general Core Data for the most part appears easy to use and nice to implement. I have a sqlite database that is being used as a read only reference to pull data elements out for an iPhone app. It would seem there are really mysterious issues relating to what seems to be migration of the database to the most recent versions of my schema. Why can't you just clean out your stored objects and models and let a project redo all of it when you compile next? You would think if you setup a stored object model there would be a way to just reset it and recompile. I've tried what feels like a thousand 'tips' that have been the results of hours of google searches and documentation prowling to figure out how to do this. My most recent error during compile time is below. 2010-04-07 18:23:51.891 PE[1962:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Can't merge models with two different entities named 'PElement'' All of this code has been working in the simulator and is only causing me troubles now because I made a change to the schema. My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be EAV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

  Hi everyone, inheriting a class attribute from a super class and later changing the value for the subclass works fine: class Unit(object): value = 10 class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.value print Archer.value Archer.value = 5 print Unit.value print Archer.value leads to the output: 10 10 10 5 which is just fine: Archer inherits the value from Unit, but when I change Archer's value, Unit's value remains untouched. Now, if the inherited value is a list, the shallow copy effect strikes and the value of the superclass is also affected: class Unit(object): listvalue = [10] class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Archer.listvalue[0] = 5 print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Output: 10 10 5 5 Is there a way to "deep copy" a list when inheriting it from the super class?   I am using a dropdown list as follows. <%=Html.DropDownList("ddl", ViewData["Available"] as SelectList, new { CssClass = "input-config", onchange = "this.form.submit();" })%> On its selection change I am invoking post action. After the post the same page is shown on which this drop down is present. I want to know about the HTML attribute for the drop down which will let me preserve the list selection change. But as of now the list shows its first element after the post. e.g. The dropdoen contains elements like 1,2,3,etc. By default 1 is selected. If I select 2, the post is invoked and the same page is shown again but my selection 2 goes and 1 is selected again. How can preserve the selection? Thanks, Kapil

  I am new to python and just downloaded it today. I am using it to work on a web spider, so to test it out and make sure everything was working, I downloaded a sample code. Unfortunately, it does not work and gives me the error: "AttributeError: 'MyShell' object has no attribute 'loaded' " I am not sure if the code its self has an error or I failed to do something correctly when installing python. Is there anything you have to do when installing python like adding environmental variables, etc.? And what does that error generally mean? • Changing a form's action attribute in IE?

  Hey. I'm trying to set a hash value in a form's action, to keep it when the form is submitted. Firefox allows me to update the hash and redirects accordingly, but IE doesn't. I initially thought this was related to IE not allowing hash values in the action attribute at all, but it seems I can't dynamically set the action at all in IE - with a hash or not? Is that right? I'm using the following jQuery: $("#options-form").attr('action', '#' + hash); To update: <form id="options-form" action="" method="get"> (On a sidenote, this wasn't needed in Firefox, because FF appears to preserve the current hash if it was only the GET params that changed.)

  Problem Constraints Size of the data set, but not the data itself, is known. Data set grows by one data point at a time. Trend line is graphed one data point at a time (using a spline/Bezier curve). Graphs The collage below shows data sets with reasonably accurate trend lines: The graphs are: Upper-left. By hour, with ~24 data points. Upper-right. By day for one year, with ~365 data points. Lower-left. By week for one year, with ~52 data points. Lower-right. By month for one year, with ~12 data points. User Inputs The user can select: the type of time series (hourly, daily, monthly, quarterly, annual); and the start and end dates for the time series. For example, the user could select a daily report for 30 days in June. Trend Weight To calculate the window size (i.e., the number of data points to average when calculating the trend line), the following expression is used: data points / trend weight Where data points is derived from user inputs and trend weight is 6.4. Even though a trend weight of 6.4 produces good fits, it is rather arbitrary, and might not be appropriate for different user inputs. Question How should trend weight be calculated given the constraints of this problem?

• What makes these two R data frames not identical?

  UPDATE: I remembered dput() about the time Sharpie mentioned it. It's probably the row names. Back in a moment with an answer. I have two small data frames, this_tx and last_tx. They are, in every way that I can tell, completely identical. this_tx == last_tx results in a frame of identical dimensions, all TRUE. this_tx %in% last_tx, two TRUEs. Inspected visually, clearly identical. But when I call identical(this_tx, last_tx) I get a FALSE. Hilariously, even identical(str(this_tx), str(last_tx)) will return a TRUE. If I set this_tx <- last_tx, I'll get a TRUE. What is going on? I don't have the deepest understanding of R's internal mechanics, but I can't find a single difference between the two data frames. If it's relevant, the two variables in the frames are both factors - same levels, same numeric coding for the levels, both just subsets of the same original data frame. Converting them to character vectors doesn't help. Background (because I wouldn't mind help on this, either): I have records of drug treatments given to patients. Each treatment record essentially specifies a person and a date. A second table has a record for each drug and dose given during a particular treatment (usually, a few drugs are given each treatment). I'm trying to identify contiguous periods during which the person was taking the same combinations of drugs at the same doses. The best plan I've come up with is to check the treatments chronologically. If the combination of drugs and doses for treatment[i] is identical to the combination at treatment[i-1], then treatment[i] is a part of the same phase as treatment[i-1]. Of course, if I can't compare drug/dose combinations, that's right out.

I've seen other people's code that does this: writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Id, this.ID + "_divTest"); That will prevent naming conflicts between instances of my control, but what if I've already created a div elsewhere on the page that coincidentally has the same ID? I've also heard about implementing INamingContainer. Would that apply here? How could I use it?

• PreApplicationStartMethod Attribute causes exception

  Strange thing happening to me with the PreApplicationStartMethod Attribute. I did implement it in my latest project. In the AssemblyInfo.cs I have the following line: [assembly: PreApplicationStartMethod(typeof(MyAssembly.Initializer), "Initialize")] The Type and method look like this: namespace MyAssembly { public static class Initializer { public static void Initialize() { TranslationKeys.Initialize(); } } } When I rebuild my application and load it in the browser I get the following error: The method specified by the PreApplicationStartMethodAttribute on assembly 'MyWebApp, Version=0.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' cannot be resolved. Type: 'MyAssembly.Initializer', MethodName: 'Initialize'. Verify that the type is public and the method is public and static (Shared in Visual Basic). I really have no idea what the problem is.
