• Setting column length of a Long value with JPA annotations

  Hi, I'm performing a little database optimisation at the moment and would like to set the column lengths in my table through JPA. So far I have no problem setting the String (varchar) lengths using JPA as follows: @Column(unique=true, nullable=false, length=99) public String getEmail() { return email; } However, when I want to do the same for a column which is of type Long (bigint), it doesn't work. For example, if I write: @Id @Column(length=7) @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) public Long getId() { return id; } The column size is still set as the default of 20. Are we able to set these lengths in JPA or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks, Gearoid.

• Strange behaviour of switch case with boolean value

  My question is not about how to solve this error(I already solved it) but why is this error with boolean value. My function is private string NumberToString(int number, bool flag) { string str; switch(flag) { case true: str = number.ToString("00"); break; case false: str = number.ToString("0000"); break; } return str; } Error is Use of unassigned local variable 'str'. Bool can only take true or false. So it will populate str in either case. Then why this error? Moreover this error is gone if along with true and false case I add a default case, but still what can a bool hold apart from true and false? Why this strange behaviour with bool variable?

• jqgrid - edit form field combobox not defaulting to selected row value after first edit

  i am using jqgrid with asp.net-mvc. I have an edit form (using jqmodal) which works great but for some reason one combobox field doesn't default to the current selected row after the first time i bring up the edit form. the weird thing is that i have many other comboboxes which work fine every time and i don't see any real difference. here is an example of the field that doesn't work: { name: "TechOwner", index: "TechOwner", width: 70, editable: true, edittype: "select", editoptions: { dataUrl: "/Person/GetSelectData" }, editrules: { required: true} }, and here is a field that works fine: { name: "FundingType", index: "FundingType", align: "left", width: 25, editable: true, edittype: "select", editoptions: { dataUrl: "/Project/FundingGetSelectData" }, editrules: { required: true} }, the dropdown is getting populated with all options (including the current selected row option) but its just defaulting to the top item) instead of one that matches the current row. is there anything to look out for here that may cause this behavior?

  I need to return a full directory name from inside a specified directory that contains .default in the folder name. Basically I'm adding a line in a backup script to backup firefox bookmarks, but the profile name is going to be different on every machine and I need a way to find the folder the bookmarks.html file resides without knowing the firefox profile name I've looked at FIND and FINDSTR but neither seem to be what I need. I also looked at this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2252785/windows-batch-file-get-folders-path-and-store-them-in-variable It was closer to what I'm looking for, but I just need a folder name, and to use something like regexp to find it Any suggestions on commands to look at or strategies to use?

  Hi, I'm trying to check whether val() has a specific value or not inside a form, if so deleting the contents / preventing the form being submitted depending on if both fields are filled in (stringOne and stringTwo). There's a default text for each input field, the first being "Namn, telefonnr, sökord" and the second "Område, plats, ort". If a user only fills in the first field the second must be cleared before the form string is passed on and vice versa.   I am using coredata framework. In my NSManagedObjectModel i am using three entities that are Class, Student and Score where class and student have one-to-many & inverse relationship and Student and Score have also inverse but one-one relationship. Score entity has all optional attributes and having default '0' decimalVaue, which is not assigned at the time new Student is added. But later i want to assign them score individually and also to particular attribute not all of score attributes in a go. I am able to create and add Students to particular Class but dont have any idea how to call particular student and assign them score. For example I want to assign Score'attribute "dribbling" [there are many attributes like "tackling"] a decimal value to Student "David" of Class "Soccer" ,how i can do that?   I have a fairly simple class that I want to save to SQL Server via NHibernate (w/ Fluent mappings). The class is made up mostly of optional string fields. My problem is I default the class fields to string.empty to avoid NullRefExceptions and when NHibernate saves the row to the database each column contains an empty string instead of null. Question: Is there a way for me to get NHibernate to automatically save null when the string property is an empty string? Or do I need to litter my code with if (string.empty) checks?

  I'm running spring + hibernate + JUnit with springJunit4runner and transactional set to default rollback I'm using in-memory derbydb as Database. Hibernate is used as a JPA Provider and I am successfully testing CRUD kinds of stuff. However, I have a problem with JPA and the behaviour of @GeneratedValue If I run one of my tests in isolation, two entitys are persisted with id 1 and 2. If i run the whole test suite the ids are instead 6 and 7. Spring does rollbacks just fine so there are only these two entitys in the database after addition and of course zero before. But behaviour of @GeneratedValue doesn't allow me to reliable findById unless I would return the Id from the dao.add(Entity e) //method I don't feel like doing that for the sake of testing, or is it a good practise to return the entity that was persisted so I should be doing it anyway?

  Hi, I have a ul set up as navigation, which I'll be animating on hover. As all the nav items are different widths, I'll be storing their default widths in an Array, so that on hover out, these widths can be passed back in to the animate method. What I need is a way to find what 'nth-child' the element is in order to retrieve the correct width from the array. Something like: var count = $(this).count(); //obviously this isn't right! So that then I can do: $(this).animate({'width':array(count)}, 400); Any suggestions would help me a lot - and if there's a better way to do this kind of thing I'd gladly accept pointers!

• Linux - Only first virtual interface can ping external gateway

  I created 3 virtual interfaces with different mac addresses all linked to the same physical interface. I see that they successfully arp for the gw and they can ping (the request is coming in the packet capture in wireshark). However the ping utility does not count the responses. Does anyone knows the issue? • Vagrant reporting VirtualBox guest additions out of date

  Fairly new to Vagrant, so bear with me if I don't understand the process. I downloaded a CentOS box off http://www.vagrantbox.es/ Started it up running VirtualBox 4.2.4 and got this message: [default] The guest additions on this VM do not match the install version of VirtualBox! This may cause things such as forwarded ports, shared folders, and more to not work properly. If any of those things fail on this machine, please update the guest additions and repackage the box. Guest Additions Version: 4.0.8 VirtualBox Version: 4.2.4 So I used the vbguest plugin to update the guest additions, then repackaged the box as suggested.   I'm trying to spin up and provision an EC2 instance with Vagrant, it successfully creates the instance up and I can then use vagrant ssh to SSH into the it but Puppet doesn't seem to carry out any provisioning. Granted, the objects are different but neither of them contain the key @"type" and they both should throw errors, yet the Osirix code Tests for both conditions: if ([[item valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"Series"]) { ... } if ([[item valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"Study"]) { ... } And throws no errors. Yet when I load an NSManagedObject of the same exact model and entity @"Series" it throws the 'no key value' when passed into the conditions above. Am I missing something? Both the superentity and subentities of itemSeries and itemStudy are nil so they don't inherit from something that has KVC @"type". I'm totally at a loss as to explain what is going on. --- EDIT --- I know no one can explain what is going on... but maybe where to start looking?
