  • 'goto' usage

    - by Landon
I've long been under the impression that 'goto' should never be used if possible. While perusing libavcodec (which is written in C) the other day, I noticed multiple uses of it. Is it ever advantageous to use 'goto' in a language that supports loops and functions? If so, why?

  • Is there any difference between var name = function() {} & function name() {} in Javascript?

    - by Fletcher Moore
Suppose we are inside a function and not in the global namespace. function someGlobalFunction() { var utilFunction1 = function() { } function utilFunction2 () { } utilFunction1(); utilFunction2(); } Are these synonymous? And do these functions completely cease to exist when someGlobalFunction returns? Should I prefer one or the other for readability or some other reason?

  • How to call Java method from C++

    - by fhucho
Hi, I am using JNI to call my C++ function from Java. One of the C++ function's arguments is jobject thiz (as far as I know, all JNI native functions have this argument). The function takes quite long to complete and I want to report progress back to the jobject thiz Java object, so that I can show the progress to the user. How can I call jobject's methods from C++?

  • Portable way to get file size in C/C++

    - by chmike
I need to determin the byte size of a file. The coding language is C++ and the code should work with Linux, windows and any other operating system. This implies using standard C or C++ functions/classes. This trivial need has apparently no trivial solution.

  • HTML5 Canvas + select / drag-and-drop features in a JS lib?

    - by István
Hi, I'd like to use HTML5 Canvas, but I'd like to use it in terms of shapes, texts and curves, able to attach traditional DOM events like onClick or drag-and-drop functions. Is there any Javascript library that is able to do that for me? I've seen that gwt-canvas is close to this approach, but haven't looked it in details. Thanks, Istvan

  • An Alternative to Views?

    - by Abs
Hello all, I am just reading this article and I came across this: Filter: Remove any functions in the WHERE clause, don't include views in your Transact-SQL code, may need additional indexes. If I do not use views, what are the alternatives? I mean, in my situation, I want to select some data from a table and then use a few other select queries to work on the subset of data from the first select query? How can I do this efficiently? Thanks all

  • MySQL DATE_ADD usage, 5 day interval

    - by Webnet
I'm trying to select the order total sum ($) and invoice count over a 5 day period in a single query. I can't seem to get this to happen though. The current query I have is here... SELECT COUNT(id) as invoice_count, SUM(orderTotal) as orders_sum, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(created) as created FROM ids_invoice WHERE DATE_ADD(created, INTERVAL +1 DAY) AND userId = '.$userId.$whereSql I'm not entirely sure DATE_ADD is the right function I'm looking for I'm fairly new to mysql date functions so perhaps I just missed the function I needed when going through mysql docs.

    - by terrani
Hi, I have been using mootools for a year now. I need to use jquery for my new projects. I always used hash() to make namespaces for my functions in mootools. For example, var person = new Hash({ say_name: function(){ }, say_age: function(){ } }); Does Jquery has similar stuff?

  • MS Access Import from Text File problems

    - by Gavin O'Brien
I'm trying to import a text file into an access database. It's not one I've written myself but the spec for the delimited text file is set up properly and the file imports properly using the wizard. When I try to use the import functions of the app itself, the ImportError table tells "Field Truncation" for one of the fields. Any help would be appreciated.

    - by Joachim Mcdonald
How is it possible to allow a user to create a webpage containing some html, based on their entries in a form? ie. I would want them to be able to input a name and when the button is clicked, a webpage called that name would be created. I imagine that this must be possible in php, but what functions/code would I be using? Thank you!

  • Trying to provide a global logging function

    - by Gekitsuu
I typically write my scripts with a structure like s #!/usr/bin/python import stuff def do_things(): print "FOO" def main(): do_things() if __name__ == "__main__": main() The problem I have is I'd like to have a logging function that is defined globally and I"m not really sure how to do this. I tried a decorator function but if I define it in main I can't call it from other functions in the script. It seems like something that should be easy to do but not something I have experience with.

  • Run-Time Binding C++

    - by m00st
I'm reading in my text book about virtual functions in C++ and my book doesn't elaborate on what exactly run-time binding is. It doesn't give me any information as to why I would need run-time binding. Maybe the nice people at SO can provide me with some links or information? Thanks :]
