  • Graphical Mode breaks after suspend/ returning from Console

    When I try to go to a virtual console (ctrl alt f1) and return to f7, my screen freaks out. Its black with frequent white 'lightning bolts' flashing across the screen. Nothing works, but to force shutdown. Same when trying to resume from suspend. This doesnt happen every time, but very often. I dont know what information might be useful but: Ubuntu 12.10 ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880 this line in xsession-errors might be pertinent: (gnome-settings-daemon:1825): color-plugin-WARNING **: Done switch to new account, reload devices p.s. Ive tried the fglrx drivers but need the legacy drivers as described here, but nothing past a black screen.

  • Vim quit insert mode when navigate with mapping keys

    In order to move the cursor in insert mode, I add the following key maps in my .vimrc(I use vim 7.3 on Sun OS) inoremap <Alt-h> <Left> inoremap <Alt-j> <Down> inoremap <Alt-k> <Up> inoremap <Alt-l> <Right> When I press the mapping keys, the cursor moves correct, but vim will quit insert mode and switch to normal mode, what's wrong with my vim? I also tried this with my gvim on Windows, it works well. Did I lost any options for the mapping keys?

  • Cisco: changing VTP mode server/client to transparent

    I have around 40 L2 switches (2960, 3560, 3500, 3750) running in VTP client mode and one L3 switch (6500) running in VTP server mode, all connected together. I would like to switch everything in VTP transparent mode without any interruption of service. I've already test on a poc version with 3 switches (Catalyst 2950, 3560 and 3750). Using serial and SSH connection, it is seems working but i'm not sure it is enough representative compare to the real network. Knowing that the VTP Pruning is enabled, I am wondering what would be the best procedure to proceed the changement. I've read that we could lost connection by keeping it enabled. Should I change the server or clients first? Is it important to change the VTP domain and VTP Pruning parameters?

  • Some html5 video content will not play in Chrome - except in Private Browsing Mode

    I have had this problem for a couple of years, probably due to the fact that all my settings get transferred when I log into Chrome: Most videos on the net play fine using Chrome, but on certain site none of the videos will play. This is not due to wrong codecs or something, because opening the same video using Chrome's Private Browsing Mode will play it just fine. Since most (all?) extensions are disabled when using Private Browsing Mode, I guessed the problem had to be found in my extensions, so I disabled all and also disabled developer mode.   • Multiply mode in SpriteBatch

    I have a "lighting" texture (black background with white or colours for lights) that I want to draw as a multiplcation operation. SpriteBatch.Begin can specify BlendState.Additive, but there's no BlendState.Multiplicative. I also tried the solution in this answer, but it didn't work -- even when I (incorrectly?) changed the code to work with XNA 4 style ColorDestinationBlend, I ended up with the final solution being inverted (black area where the light is, everything else is visible). I initially thought of a shader, but I couldn't get shaders to work with MonoGame, so I'm falling back to SpriteBatch.

  • Ubuntu is stuck when it goes to sleep mode in fullscreen

    If there is a full screen terminal running when Ubuntu goes to sleep, it becomes stuck. This is not the problem with gnome-terminal as sometimes firefox in full screen also causes this problem. With firefox this doesn't happen every time. But with gnome-terminal this happens everytime and as explained in this answer, I use killall command and kill the application. Is this a bug and what can be done to aviod this?

  • ubuntu 12.10 grub doesn't appear efi mode

    After a number of failed attempts on installing Ubuntu and Linux in the hybrid-gpt of Windows, in which I wanted different partitions by gparted, I ended up creating againg a conventional partitions table within the conventional system. This photo is not mine because as creating the partition I did not think in taking photos, but I am showing you it so that you can see the format “MS-DOS”, the standard format of gparted. My neetbook is a k55MV Asus 500GB (the page don't allow me to put 3 hiperlink I will put it at the end in a new coment 1) I installed Windows by creating a partition just for it. Windows created two partitions else for starting the system up. However creating it on ms-dos appear now in gpt view fotos 2) With the rest of the space, I created a 90-gigabyte partition for Ubuntu and the “swap” of 4 gb. The other partitions are for data. 3) I assured myself about installing Ubuntu in the partition whose format was ext4, for using that partition as base and to install the “grub” on the base of 500gb. I have boot the system up, Ubuntu is loaded but the grub does not appear. I have tried by pressing “beginning” “UPPER CASE LETTER”, but no way!     I created a LiveUSB of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS using Pendrive Linux. -Created a separate 30GB partition using Windows 8 Disk Management -Disabled Secure Boot (Didn't find an option to disable EFI boot) -Disabled Fast Startup The laptop starts the GRUB menu shows up but it doesn't go beyond that no matter what option i choose. After choosing any option the screen goes blank but the power is still on i can see the power light.   • Error when using mailto: link in Mobile Safari in app-capable mode

    I've got a form in a web page with an action that is "mailto:email" (where email is a real email address). When I load this page in Mobile Safari in regular mode (ie, not launched from home screen with app-capable mode), this works fine - after I submit the form, the email app comes up. However, when I'm in app-capable mode and have launched from the home screen (so, no Safari chrome), and submit the form I get the error "URL can't be shown". However, a regular mailto: link (ie, not in a form) does work when in app-capable mode. Has anyone else noticed this? Any workarounds? Are forms disallowed in app-capable mode? Thanks, Elisabeth

  • Freezing a dual-mode (GUI and console) application using cx_Freeze

    Hi, I've developed a Python application that runs both in the GUI mode and the console mode. If any arguments are specified, it runs in a console mode else it runs in the GUI mode. I've managed to freeze this using cx_Freeze. I had some problems hiding the black console window that would pop up with wxPython and so I modified my setup.py script like this: import sys from cx_Freeze import setup, Executable base = None if sys.platform == "win32": base = "Win32GUI" setup( name = "simple_PyQt4", version = "0.1", description = "Sample cx_Freeze PyQt4 script", executables = [Executable("PyQt4app.py", base = base)]) This works fine but now when I try to open up my console and run the executable from there, it doesn't output anything. I don't get any errors or messages so it seems that cx_Feeze is redirecting the stdout somewhere else. Is is possible to get it to work with both mode?     I use System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier to show the current render mode within a diagnostics panel of my app. If I force the app (3.5sp1) to change the render-mode through the following code HwndSource hwndSource = PresentationSource.FromVisual(visual) as System.Windows.Interop.HwndSource; HwndTarget hwndTarget = hwndSource.CompositionTarget; hwndTarget.RenderMode = renderMode; neither System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.TierChanged fires, nor has the System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier property changed. However the changes are applied to the app. If I look with Perforator, the render mode has been changed to the desired mode. Although I’ve found at many locations that System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier can be used to detect the current render state (also msdn, see this), it seems, System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability only gives information about the capabilities and not about the current mode. That makes also sense if I look at the name of the class. Is there another source to know how an actual wpf-content is rendered or am I doing something wrong?

  • Stronger laptop_mode in Linux

    Can I have stronger laptop mode in Linux? I want to spin down the hard drive and prevent it to spin up even if something wants to read something not in cache. In general I want to have these modes: Normal Current laptop mode Stronger laptop mode: spin up only when needs to read something uncached (and cache it). No spinups to write something unless really memory pressure (Exception: explicit "sync" command in console). Kernel is allowed to keep processes in D-sleep for 10 seconds for that. Forced laptop mode: do not spin up, period. Keep offending processes in D-sleep unless I turn off this mode. Like there is a bomb instead of hard drive. I also want to have access times tracked (mount -o atime), but I don't want the hard drive to be spinned up only to update them. Is there some settings or kernel patches that can get closer to this? May be I should write special io scheduler for "forced laptop mode"? E.g. echo suspend > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler to lock the drive and echo cfq > /ys/block/sda/queue/scheduler to unlock it again?

  • eclipse tomcat debug mode slow - pegs cpu

    Running Tomcat through eclipse works fine in non-debug mode, but not in debug mode. When I try to start the Tomcat server in debug mode, the console output looks fine for a while, but then starts slowing down and eventually just stops, pegging the cpu at 100%. I had been running fine in debug-mode for several months prior to this issue. I didn't make any significant changes to our project that would cause this. Eventually, I upgraded to eclipse galileo which solved my problem. Now 2 days later, I'm having the same problem in galileo. Like I said it works fine in non-debug mode. Any help is much appreciated. I should add that other things work in debug mode - for instance junit tests, so it is something specific to tomcat.

  • "The breakpoint will not currently be hit" error while debugging a mixed mode application (c# and unmanaged c++)

    While debugging a mixed mode application in VS2010, the breakpoint set on a line of code contained in an unmanaged c++ dll source file (called from a managed c# wrapper class) shows the infamous "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document" info message when hovering the mouse over the breakpoint on the line in question. The breakpoint itself is a red circle with a yellow info triangle instead of the usual solid red orb. Of course, the breakpoint isn't hit when the debugger is executed. Most answers I've found for this warning indicate the breakpoint hasn't been set properly, or that the expected dll is not being loaded, or that the associated pdb file is not located in the correct location, etc. etc. This is not the problem. The application does load and execute the referenced dll correctly. I've verified that the correct pdb file, with the same file date as its dll, is located in the executable's working directory along with the target dll itself. The debugger simply doesn't load the symbols for the dll, and the dll doesn't show in the Modules list. None of the solutions I've found online work for this problem. The dll doesn't show in the modules list available from 'Debug-Windows-Modules' menu selection... even though it is, in fact, loaded. Breakpoints set in the wrapper class work correctly. Deleting the bin and obj directories, cleaning and rebuilding the solution also doesn't help.

I have a customised machine I would like to sysprep and clone, without having to re-create in audit mode. And from where does one run sysprep? Is the command included in the windows distro, or do I need to run it from the AIK, or from a PE environment?

    So, I'm kind of falling in love with Safari 4 (sorry, Firefox). However, I'm the type who likes my browser cache. Doing a little bit of Googling, it seems Safari does have an offline mode like Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera (where you can view cached web pages offline), but I haven't found any way to activate it and just navigating to web pages with no net connection seems not to do it either. So, does Safari even really have an offline mode, and if so, how does one use it?

  • Why is vCenter 5.1u1 exiting hosts from maintenance mode?

    This vCenter server was just upgraded to 5.1 update 1. I'm going through hosts and bringing firmware up to date, then upgrading them from various versions of 5.0 to 5.1u1. vCenter 5.1u1 seems to have an interesting new behavior: it's removing hosts from maintenance mode when they reconnect after being disconnected -- but very inconsistently, I've seen it maybe 4 or 5 times on ~25-30 host reboots. I've only seen it happen on 5.0 hosts that have not yet been upgraded to 5.1. In the image, I placed the host in maint mode and rebooted it into the HP SPP DVD's automatic update mode. After its usual ~40 minute update process, the host came back online.. and 7 seconds before even logging that the host had reconnected, vCenter had sent the host a task to exit maintenance mode. In my understanding, the only time vCenter should drop a host out of maintenance mode is when vCenter put it into maintenance mode itself (such as a VUM upgrade task). Why would this vCenter be unilaterally exiting a host from user-initiated maintenance mode? Edit, additional info: I ran the firmware upgrades on 5 more hosts, all at the same time. Two of them exited maint mode after reconnecting, three did not. The common factor of those exiting maint mode seems to be how long they were offline; the two that took a few tries to boot to the virtual media are the two that got knocked out of maint mode. esx31 (image above): 45 minutes unresponsive esx19 (exited maint): 87 minutes unresponsive esx24 (stayed in maint): 32 minutes unresponsive esx29 (stayed in maint): 39 minutes unresponsive esx32 (stayed in maint): 30 minutes unresponsive esx34 (exited maint): 70 minutes unresponsive Edit: The disconnect time idea seems to have been a red herring, as it's not happening consistently. Additionally, in the vpxd.log the exit maint mode task initiation seems to always immediately follow this vim.EnvironmentBrowser.queryProvisioningPolicy SOAP call. Here's the lines, slightly trimmed for clarity: 15:27:49.535 [info 'vpxdvpxdVmomi'] [ClientAdapterBase::InvokeOnSoap] Invoke done (esx31, vim.EnvironmentBrowser.queryProvisioningPolicy) 15:27:49.560 [info 'commonvpxLro'] [VpxLRO] -- BEGIN task -- esx31 -- HostSystem.exitMaintenanceMode -- Note that on the nodes that don't get the exit task, the vim.EnvironmentBrowser.queryProvisioningPolicy event still occurs. I'm not seeing any other differences in events before or after this in the reconnect process, aside from the extra events caused by exiting maintenance mode. Given the log's mention of provisioning policies, looking for autodeploy-related maintenance mode issues turns up complaints about similar behavior (though I'm not using autodeploy at all).

In the firewall section it states that ipfw has a default allow rule: 65535 allow ip from any to any And if you enable the firewalls 'stealth mode' via the settings the following rule should be added: 33300 deny icmp from any to me in icmptypes 8 The funny thing is: I have stealth enabled and I do not see this rule when doing sudo ipfw print Any idea where stealth mode is enforced if not in the ipfw ruleset?

  • How to install ADFS 3.0 in standalone mode?

    I've installed Windows 2012 R2 and enabled the ADFS (3.0?) feature. After installation, it asks to configure ADFS, but this step requires a user account that is a domain administrator, as it wants to create certificate containers and SPN records. In ADFS 2.0, you could install in standalone mode which required only local admin rights, storing everything in the Windows Internal Database. If this still possible with the latest version? If so, how do I configure ADFS in standalone mode?
