    Is there a good note taking application in ubuntu like Evernote exists for windows and Mac users. Requirements for good applications:- A thumbnail/list preview for all the created notes. An integration with the email address so that we can view the notes anywhere anytime. Any easy way to input text, video, pdf, images etc. I have tried tomboy, basket notes. They aren't that good.   • How do I get Picasa 3.9 to play .MOV files?

    I have been using Picasa for years, first in XP then in Ubuntu from 8.04 onwards & now in Lubuntu 11.10. For 11.10, I downloaded Picasa3.9.0 from FileHippo & installed it in Wine. Everything works well, except it doesn't play videos from my camera - it just shows a thumbnail - whereas earlier versions played videos OK. The videos appear as **.MOV (QuickTime video) in file manager, & can be played by, for instance, GNOME MPlayer or Movie Player (but not properly by Banshee...). Is there some simple way of getting Picasa 3.9 to play them?

  • Prevent Nautilus from generating thumbnails for video files larger than 5 MB?

    If I set in Nautilus preferences that it should generate thumbnail previews only for files larger than 10 MB, then this only works for pictures. Nautilus still keeps generating thumbnails for videos and pdf files. Even if a video file is 500 MB. It should only generate thumbnails for video files less than 10 MB as set in the preferences. Same goes for pdf. I have many pdf files that are larger than 50 MB. I don't want Nautilus to generate thumbnails for these, only for small sized pdf. How can I make Nautilus to obey the Previews preferences? Nautilus 3.4.2 Ubuntu 12.04.1, 64bit

  • Strategy for image sizes

    I run a site that has a lot of writers that generate quite a few articles a day. I require them to provide two image sizes (one for the big headline image and one as the thumbnail). I've been wanting to change up the site layout a bit, but I am becoming limited by the image sizes for the posts. I have considered just cropping images, but they still need to look nice, and cropping doesn't always generate what I'd want. I'd prefer to just scale down by percentage (as I do with thumbnails). Should I just make the writers provide more images? How do other sites handle this?

  • How to remove text from file icons ?

    I am fairly new to Ubuntu (Linux). I noticed when creating a .java file or .py gives me an icon, however when I start writing code it overrides the thumbnail into showing text. Is there a way to disable this silly feature ? When I installed Linux Mint on the VM I noticed I was able to accomplish this task by unchecking "Show text in icon". I know they use Namo as their file manager. I read this thread and it did not work. How to stop Nautilus from creating thumbnails of specific file types?

    As a developer I'm used to Subversion for source control and I think it's great for sharing source code between developers. Now thinking about my graphists and game designers, they need to have a slightly different approach I think. They need to share binary files They need to be able to have a thumbnail and preview of their work I don't want to include their binaries into my game repository (would be much too heavy for developer when updating) I've seen that some graphists uses personally created website to share their work but I was wondering if some "standard" application existed in order to provide my graphists a cool way of working together. Is there a common way of dealing with this? Is the way I want to do (only final sprites on my game repo) correct? How do you guys do this as game developers?

    I am working on a photo sharing social platform like Flickr, Photobucket. To start off with I have half a million photos as of now. I want to convert all of these into a single format, compression ratio and use it as an original image. I will be storing original image, re-sized image according to layout and a thumbnail. I have started off with ruby, didn't find supporting libraries. I am considering python as it has a good image processing library and instagram is using it. I want some advise about how the image has to be processed while uploading, efficient way of storage whether database or a file system, image compressions, and precautions to be taken. I would be having profile pictures, do I need store them separately or along with the images? If I want to store the images on a file system, which file system should I use and also should I store the url or should I use any intermediate key value store like redis?

  • I think there is a problem with my url encoding

    I took someone's advice and started encoding my image sources, but Google doesn't seem to be able to decode them. I probably did something wrong, because basically Google is taking the full path as the image's name. See this page as an example. If you go on the top most thumbnail and do "Save as", you will see the path is not being decoded. Should I stop decoding or am I doing it wrong? Should I encode only the image name itself? Thanks!

However, if the person just goes to the general "unique pens" category page and sees a list of thumbnail images, each with the words "unique" and "pen" in the alt attribute, would that potentially have a negative impact with regards to SEO by having the same keywords too many times?

    I have an WPF form that I myself did not create, so I am not very good at WPF. It is leaking badly though, up to 400 MB and closing the form does not help. The problem lies in my application loading all the pictures at once. I would like to only load the ones visible at the moment. It is about 300 pictures and they are a bit large so my WPF-form suffers from loading them all. I have a DataTemplate with my own type that has a property Thumbnail.     Let's say I have a collection of PDF files with the following paths: /some/path/pdfs/birds/duck.pdf /some/path/pdfs/birds/goose.pdf /some/path/pdfs/insects/fly.pdf /some/path/pdfs/insects/mosquito.pdf What I'd like to do is generate thumbnails for each PDF that respect the relative path structure, and output to another location, i.e.: /another/path/thumbnails/birds/duck.png /another/path/thumbnails/birds/goose.png /another/path/thumbnails/insects/fly.png /another/path/thumbnails/insects/mosquito.png I'd like this to be done in Ant. Assume I'm going to use Ghostscript on the command line and I've already worked out the call to GS: <exec executable="${ghostscript.executable.name}"> <arg value="-q"/> <arg value="-r72"/> <arg value="-sDEVICE=png16m"/> <arg value="-sOutputFile=${thumbnail.image.path}"/> <arg value="${input.pdf.path}"/> </exec> So what I need to do is work out the correct values for ${thumbnail.image.path} and ${input.pdf.path} while traversing the PDF input directory. This is part of a Content Management System and the users do not know how to resize photos, so I need to resize the image to a set size after it is uploaded. How can this be done with PHP? Please note, I am not trying to accomplish a thumbnail image, simply scale the one that is uploaded.

    With the standard share at http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php one only needs to specify a URL. Title and thumbnail are automatically pulled from the web page (perhaps with the help of meta tags). With Facebook Connect (I am using the iPhone SDK), I need to supply everything explicitly (URL, title, caption, description, images, etc.). Is there a way to emulate the "share" behavior with Facebook Connect, i.e. let Facebook pull the missing elements from the page being shared itself?
