• What are some good ways to prevent malicious proxy users from accessing your site?

  This question has been bugging me for some time. I always picture launching my site, and some dirt bag coming on and uploading porno or spamming profanity. So I decide I don't want him using my site, I ban his account and ban his ip in my cpanel, but what if he is using a proxy and just keeps making new accounts to harass me? What can I possibly do to prevent this horrible outcome?

• Same OpenID code working on 1 server not working on another

  We implemented OpenID for Google Marketplace on this online hosting and it worked perfectly fine. But its not working on another server which DOES NOT have cPanel unlike the online hosting. Its failing authentication with this message: "Nonce already used or out of range" Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?

  I'm using few PHP scripts for sending Email to website members. Is it possible to see at cPanel WHM mail statistic which PHP script was sent specific email using sendmail function? At section "View Relayers" I can see Time Sent, Message ID, Sender, Destination but not the script that fired this sendmail function.

• Help! I got a runaway PHP script. My server is down.

  I got a PHP script that is looping and will continue to do so for about another hour. How do I stop it. The script explicitly overrides the time out and the memory buffer. It's on a shared hosting server with cPanel installed. The entire website is down until the script completes. I had added a usleep(100000) statement, but it doesn't appear to work.

Google's been unhelpful so far, and I was hoping that someone here had some insight as to what's causing this and how to fix it. Curiously, this error only shows up /usr/local/apache2/logs/error_log and not the error_log for the cpanel-configured site.

• Building a regex builder

  I am a beginner in programming in general and web development in particular. I am especially bad at regular expressions. Recently I was involved in building a couple of cPanel plugins(Perl-CGI) and that's when I realized how bad I am in regex. As a result, I have decided to build an online regex builder - this will help me to learn regex and help other struggling with regex. I have checked out GSkinner, Rubular and a couple of others like regexpal. It seemed to be a little difficult to use, hence i thought of writing another one. I do not know which tool is best suited for the job. should I write it in Perl or Python? My skill level is between beginner and intermediate in both those languages. What would be a good starting point - building it for the CLI or for the browser? I plan to get a string as an input, ask if the user want to search or search and replace, enter the search string (and the replace string where applicable) and then generate a regex. Would this be the right way to go?

  Hello, I'm currently in need to have xxx.one.com load the content of yyy.two.com. That means that when someone will enter xxx.one.com they'll actually see the content of yyy.two.com (URL in the browser won't change and will remain xxx.one.com). The domains are hosted on separate hosting company. yyy.two.com is on a cPanel and xxx.one.com is on an unknown hosting plan, though I can get its details. yyy.two.com have the same IP of www.two.com and this cannot be changed (as the hosting company told me). Every day I look at the "Latest Visitors" in my CPanel, and today there were some strange entries (one is pasted below). Not knowing any better, it looks to me like there is some site that's referring users to my site, for some reason. • Point subdomain to another web hosting

  I buy a domain from GoDaddy. Let's call this domain as abc.com. I've a hosting account on web hosting A with abc.com as my primary domain. I created a sub-domain pic.abc.com and I wish it to be pointed to my new hosting account. This web hosting B also use abc.com as the primary domain. The main purpose of doing this because I only want to use web hosting B to host my pic.abc.com contents. That's all. Other content from *.abc.com and abc.com will be remain in web hosting A. How to do this? Note 1: I try to add pic.abc.com as an add-on domain in my web hosting B account. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that. Note 2: I also try to use URL forwarding method using DNS management service like DNS Social. It doesn't work. Note 3: I'm using WordPress on the pic.abc.com site. Both web hosting A and B running cPanel - Apache servers (shared hosting). Thanks in advance!

• High server load - [jbd2/md1-8] using 99.99% IO

  I've been having spike in load over the last week. This usually occurs once or twice a day. I've managed to identify from iotop that [jbd2/md1-8] is using 99.99 % IO. During the high load times there is no high traffic to the server. Server specs are: AMD Opteron 8 core 16 GB RAM 2x2.000 GB 7.200 RPM HDD Software Raid 1 Cloudlinux + Cpanel Mysql is properly tuned Apart from the spikes, the load usually is around 0.80 at most. I've searched around but can't find what [jbd2/md1-8] does exactly. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know a possible solution? Thank you. • /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -am 1 /tmp/nginx_client not cleaning nginx temporary files

  I installed nginxcp (A nginx plugin for cpanel). They recommend to add the following cron job to clean the temp files. 0 */1 * * * /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -am 1 /tmp/nginx_client But it does't work. Even running the command /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -am 1 /tmp/nginx_client nothing happens. None of the files are being removed. The only strange thing I noticed, is that all tmp files that are being stored at /tmp/nginx_client belongs to nobody nobody. What am I doing wrong? thanks.

  I'm running MySQL on a remote server, and it suddenly started rejecting all connections: $ mysql -h 192.168.1.10 -u root -p ERROR 1129 (00000): Host 'web' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' So, I try this flush-hosts command... $ mysqladmin flush-hosts -h 192.168.1.10 -u root -p mysqladmin: connect to server at '192.168.1.10' failed error: 'Host 'web' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'' I.e. it's blocking the very un-blocking tool it recommends. Am I doing it wrong, or will I have to resort to ssh/cpanel/physical access?

  we been getting some attacks on our server i think, cause our server gets down every day now.. i want to monitor what is causing server to go down or if there is any attack from some site or if its crawler doing the attack. is there any tool for this? if not, what should i do to find out what is causing the problem. Edited my server is linux i have cpanel control panel i haven't checked the logs i have done nothing to see whatis causing the problem thats why i came here to ask how can i find out what is causing the problem. there is guy from our server, he said its server ram, they told us to extend more ram, but there isnt many sites on it and not many load from that sites eaither, so i dont see why our 2gb ram is getting used at. so i want to find out :/

• More than 3 seconds "Initial Connection" time (webpagetest.org)

  I'm having a weird issue with a vBulletin forum, on a 2? Xeon E5645 w/ 16GB RAM, cPanel and LiteSpeed webserver; It takes too long to start loading... When I tested it with webpagetest.org I saw that for every request there's a 3 second "Initial connection" delay, which I don't know why is happening. Here's a screenshot: CPU Load is between 0.03 and 0.05, I've got several GB of free RAM, practical no I/O activity, and this delay can occur even with only one visitor on the forum. Where do you suggest I start searching? What could be the reason for this kind of delay? I don't think it's the webserver, or the forum because there's another website on the server (total 2 sites) which is WordPress based, and has exactly the same issue with the 3 second initial connection delay. I believe it's OS related, but need a clue on where to start looking. Thanks in advance :)

• .htaccess - redirect non www to www and retain subdomains from redirecting

  So, on my main domain 'domain.com' I created several subdomains from cPanel, like 'sub1.domain.com' and 'sub2.domain.com'. Their real location on server is in 'domain.com/sub1' and 'domain.com/sub2'. Now, I want to redirect non www to www with .htaccess and this is what currently what i have: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.domain\.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.domain.com/$1 [L,R=301] </IfModule> This works. When somebody enter domain.com it will be redirected to www.domain.com. However when somebody enter sub1.domain.com, he will be redirected to www.domain.com/sub1 - which I don't want, it needs to be in sub1.domain.com. What shall I add in .htaccess file to accomplish this?

  I've been conducting security scans, and a new one popped up for me: DNS Server Spoofed Request Amplification DDoS The remote DNS server answers to any request. It is possible to query the name servers (NS) of the root zone ('.') and get an answer which is bigger than the original request. By spoofing the source IP address, a remote attacker can leverage this 'amplification' to launch a denial of service attack against a third-party host using the remote DNS server. General Solution: Restrict access to your DNS server from public network or reconfigure it to reject such queries. I'm hosting my own DNS for my website. I'm not sure what the solution is here... • DNS: forward part of a managed domain to one host, but sub domain services to another (Google Apps)

  I was going to post this as a comment against DNS: Forward domain to another host, but I don't seem able to do that. I'm in a similar situation. I have a DNS registered/managed by enom, except with the slight twist that the domain was originally registered with enom through a Google Apps account creation. The domain currently supports a Google Apps site/account. I now want to direct the bare primary domain and www entries to a hosting provider for the website component, but leave the Google Apps setup intact for its services such as calendar, mail etc. For now, I'm leaving the domain managed by enom. Also note that when I registered my account with the hosting provider, I gave the same domain name as the existing domain (e.g. example.com), so at their end I'm working with the same domain name in cpanel, etc. In my case, the existing enom DNS entries don't have an A record for the www.example.com, or the bare example.com domain. Instead, there are 4 x @ records with the Google Apps IP Address, 2 x TXT records with what I assume are Google Apps site verification strings/tokens, and a bunch of CNAME records for the various features of Google Apps (mail, calendar, docs, sites, etc). So, my questions: How do I point the www.example.com and example.com DNS entries at enom to my web site hosting provider, while leaving the domain managed by enom, and the Google Apps services working as they are now (with the obvious exception of Google Sites)? How do I setup the example.com mail-related DNS records (MX, etc) at the web site hosting provider, so that outbound email to [email protected] gets correctly sent to the google apps mail account, and doesn't get trapped inside the pseudo domain within the hosting providers servers?
