  • Memory issue regarding UIImageView on IPhone 4.0 / IPad

    - by Sagar Mane
    Hello All, My Application is crashing due to low memory [ Received memory warning level 1 + 2] To trace this I have used Instrument and come with following points Test Enviorment : Single view controller added on Window When I don't use UIImageView Real Memory is used 3.66 MB When I uses UIImageView with Image having size 25 KB : Real Memory is used 4.24 MB. almost 560 KB extra when compare to w/o UIImageView and which keep on adding as I am adding more UIImageview on the view. below is sample code for adding UIImageview which I am refering UIImageView* iSplashImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"Default-Landscape.png"]]; iSplashImage.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480); [self.window addSubview:iSplashImage]; AND dealloc if(iSplashImage) { [iSplashImage release]; iSplashImage = nil; } Issue is this 560 KB is not getting release and after some time application receives low memory warning. Can anyone point out if I am missing something or doing else. As My application uses lots of Images in One session. Thanks in Advance, Sagar

  • iPhone JSON Object

    - by Cosizzle
    Hello, I'm trying to create a application that will retrieve JSON data from an HTTP request, send it to a the application main controller as a JSON object then from there do further processing with it. Where I'm stick is actually creating a class that will serve as a JSON class in which will take a URL, grab the data, and return that object. Alone, im able to make this class work, however I can not get the class to store the object for my main controller to retrieve it. Because im fairly new to Objective-C itself, my thoughts are that im messing up within my init call: -initWithURL:(NSString *) value { responseData = [[NSMutableData data] retain]; NSString *theURL = value; NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:theURL]]; [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self]; return self; } The processing of the JSON object takes place here: - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { [connection release]; NSString *responseString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:responseData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; [responseData release]; NSError *jsonError; SBJSON *json = [[SBJSON new] autorelease]; NSDictionary *parsedJSON = [json objectWithString:responseString error:&jsonError]; // NSArray object. listings = [parsedJSON objectForKey:@"posts"]; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [listings objectEnumerator]; NSDictionary* item; // to prove that it does work. while (item = (NSDictionary*)[enumerator nextObject]) { NSLog(@"posts:id = %@", [item objectForKey:@"id"]); NSLog(@"posts:address = %@", [item objectForKey:@"address"]); NSLog(@"posts:lat = %@", [item objectForKey:@"lat"]); NSLog(@"posts:lng = %@", [item objectForKey:@"lng"]); } [responseString release]; } Now when calling the object within the main controller I have this bit of code in the viewDidLoad method call: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; JSON_model *jsonObj = [[JSON_model alloc] initWithURL:@"http://localhost/json/faith_json.php?user=1&format=json"]; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [[jsonObj listings] objectEnumerator]; NSDictionary* item; // while (item = (NSDictionary*)[enumerator nextObject]) { NSLog(@"posts:id = %@", [item objectForKey:@"id"]); NSLog(@"posts:address = %@", [item objectForKey:@"address"]); NSLog(@"posts:lat = %@", [item objectForKey:@"lat"]); NSLog(@"posts:lng = %@", [item objectForKey:@"lng"]); } }

  • C++ from SpeakHere in iPhone app

    - by niklassaers
    Hi guys, I've made a template app where I've grabbed the recording part of the SpeakHere example and removed the file handling part, but I'm struggeling to get the C++ part of the app working right. As soon as it enters the C++ class, it gets syntax errors. If I don't import the header files from C++ (and then of course don't use the code) into my Objective C classes, all works fine. I cannot see the difference between how I'm doing it and the example is doing it. Can you see the difference? I've posted the entire code here: http://github.com/niklassaers/testFFT The build errors I get are: testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:91:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:91: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'CAStreamBasicDescription' testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:298:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:298: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '<' token testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:299:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:299: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '==' token testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:301:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:301: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '!=' token testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:302:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:302: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '<=' token testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:303:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:303: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '>=' token testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:304:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:304: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '>' token testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:307:0 testFFT/CAStreamBasicDescription.h:307: error: expected ';', ',' or ')' before '&' token testFFT/CAXException.h:65:0 testFFT/CAXException.h:65: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'CAX4CCString' testFFT/CAXException.h:87:0 testFFT/CAXException.h:87: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'CAXException' testFFT/AQRecorder.h:59:0 testFFT/AQRecorder.h:59: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'AQRecorder' testFFT/RecorderLink.h:57:0 testFFT/RecorderLink.h:57: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'AQRecorder' testFFT/RecorderLink.h:62:0 testFFT/RecorderLink.h:62: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'AQRecorder' Any idea what's going on here? • iPhone Twitter Get UserId

    - by Mick Walker
    Hi, I am looking for a way to get a twitter users userid via their username. For example take http://twitter.com/AlySSa_miLAno (yes I know her twitter page off by heart lol) on the right hand side of the page is a link to her RSS feed: feed://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/26642006.rss In this context Alyssa's userid would be 26642006. Ideally I would like to avoid reading the full content of the page, as this could be quite expensive on a mobile device, so if anyone knows how to accomplish this using any Twitter/3rd party webservices that would be great.

  • iPhone: [subview release] removes my subview from the display

    - by Stefan Klumpp
    I have these two pieces of code. The first one works perfectly: UIView *tmp = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 60.0f, 296.0f, 44.0f)]; [self.dynamicView addSubview:tmp]; [tmp release]; The second one is pretty much the same, but the view doesn't show up. CommentBox *commentBox = [[CommentBox alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 296.0f, 44.0f)]; [self.dynamicView addSubview:commentBox]; [commentBox release]; // Why does this remove the view? If I remove the [commentBox release] the view surprisingly appears. But I don't see a different between these two code snippets. The init for the CommentBox looks like this: - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if ((self = [super initWithFrame:frame])) { // Load the nib: NSArray *nibObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"CommentBox" owner:self options:nil]; self = [nibObjects objectAtIndex:0]; } return self; }

  • iPhone OS: Fetching a random entity instance using NSPredicate Nsfetchrequest and core data

    - by nickthedude
    Working on an app where I have a large collections of managed objects against which I want to fetch a few random instances. My question is, is there any way I can use NSPredicate and NSFetchRequest to return several objects at random. I saw that you could actually add a NSFetchRequest into the entity using the data modeler, any way to do the random fetch using this? Also what would be the best method for determining the "count" of a table so I can set the bounds of the random number generator. let me know if you need more details. Thanks! Nick

  • iPhone metering problems

    - by Eric Christensen
    When I'm recording an AVAudioRecorder object, I repeat a chunk of code via an NSTimer that includes: [soundrecording updateMeters]; NSLog(@"channel 0 average:%f, peak:%f",[soundrecording averagePowerForChannel:0],[soundrecording peakPowerForChannel:0]); NSLog(@"channel 1 average:%f, peak:%f",[soundrecording averagePowerForChannel:1],[soundrecording peakPowerForChannel:1]); When I'm recording a mono file, the peak power for channel 0 is just what you'd expect, a float from -160 to 0. But average power for channel 0 is always zero. (And, of course, the values for channel 1 are both zero.) When I'm recording a stereo file, both the average and peak values for both channels are as expected. Any thoughts on why, when recording a mono file, the average value for channel 0 isn't returning correctly, even though the peak is? Thanks!

  • Swiping Images with Page Control in Iphone

    - by lakesh
    I am trying to make practice app where i can scroll images with page control. I am able to scroll images and able to include the page control. But the problem i face is i am not able to interlink the two. Meaning to say when I scroll the images, the page control is not affected and when i change the page control, the scrolling of the images is unaffected. I have referred to this: http://www.iosdevnotes.com/2011/03/uiscrollview-paging/ for the scrolling with page control. Viewcontroller.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface ViewController : UIViewController <UIScrollViewDelegate>{ UIScrollView *scrollView; UIPageControl *pageControl; BOOL pageControlBeingUsed; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIScrollView *scrollView; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIPageControl *pageControl; - (IBAction)changePage; @end Viewcontroller.m #import "ViewController.h" @interface ViewController () @end @implementation ViewController @synthesize scrollView,pageControl; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSArray *images = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:[UIImage imageNamed:@"1.jpeg"],[UIImage imageNamed:@"2.jpeg"],[UIImage imageNamed:@"3.jpeg" ], nil]; self.scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(self.scrollView.frame.size.width * images.count, self.scrollView.frame.size.height); for (int i = 0; i < images.count; i++) { CGRect frame; frame.origin.x = self.scrollView.frame.size.width * i; frame.origin.y = 0; frame.size = self.scrollView.frame.size; UIImageView* imgView = [[UIImageView alloc] init]; imgView.image = [images objectAtIndex:i]; imgView.frame = frame; [scrollView addSubview:imgView]; } } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Dispose of any resources that can be recreated. } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; self.scrollView = nil; } - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)sender { // Update the page when more than 50% of the previous/next page is visible CGFloat pageWidth = self.scrollView.frame.size.width; int page = floor((self.scrollView.contentOffset.x - pageWidth / 2) / pageWidth) + 1; self.pageControl.currentPage = page; } - (IBAction)changePage{ // update the scroll view to the appropriate page CGRect frame; frame.origin.x = self.scrollView.frame.size.width * self.pageControl.currentPage; frame.origin.y = 0; frame.size = self.scrollView.frame.size; [self.scrollView scrollRectToVisible:frame animated:YES]; pageControlBeingUsed = YES; } - (void)scrollViewWillBeginDragging:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { pageControlBeingUsed = NO; } - (void)scrollViewDidEndDecelerating:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { pageControlBeingUsed = NO; } @end Need some guidance on this... Thanks..

  • iPhone App development for non-programmers

    - by user645479
    I have a English major during college and would like to start my career in mobile application development. I know this won't be easy for someone like me who doesn't have a technical background but I have made up my mind and I am committed to learning to code. What would you recommend to someone who wants to to start learning mobile application development from scratch? What books or college courses/certificates are required?

  • Help with iphone button pressed

    - by StealthRT
    I am trying to see which button was clicked on so I can preform the correct logic. This is the code for the buttons: UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(270, 423, 60, 60)]; [button addTarget:self action:@selector(buttonPressedAction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [button setBackgroundImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"refreshicon.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:10.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; UIButton *button2 = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 423, 60, 60)]; [button2 addTarget:self action:@selector(buttonPressedAction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [button2 setBackgroundImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"login.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:10.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [self.navigationController.view addSubview:button]; [self.navigationController.view addSubview:button2]; And this is how I call the buttonPressedAction: - (void)buttonPressedAction:(id)sender { NSLog(@"%@", [sender value]); isRefreshing = TRUE; [self loadTheXML]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } But when I use NSLog to see what the sender value is, it crashes. Any advice for what's happening and how to correct it?

  • Help: Instance Variables & Properties [iPhone]

    - by Devoted
    In something like this: @interface Control_FunViewController : UIViewController { UITextField *nameField; UITextField *numberField; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *nameField; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *numberField; I understand that "UITextField *nameField;" is an instance variable and "@property ..." is a property. But what do these individual things do? I guess what I'm really asking is how the property is used for example in the implementation file (.m)

  • iPhone sdk, at dismissModalViewcontrollerAnimated, the parent change y origin coordinate

    - by DigitalVanilla
    Hi guys, my first post here :) I'm having a small trouble with a small but boring problem. I have a view, with a NavigationController. I load in the NC a simple view. Inside this view there's abutton where I fire the presentModalView... in the main view, not on NC, but it's parent view: ABVIEW NC NEWVIEW new attach a presentModalView... on ABVIEW, so [abview present...]; No problem till now. When it's the time to dismiss, after the temporary window (let's calls it NOTES) disappear, my ABVIEW with all the subviews change Y position from 0 to 20, the same height of the status bar. I was looking everywhere and I'm sure it's a stupid thing, but I miss a bit of knowledge here and I have no idea where to find the solution. thanks in advance!

  • iPhone - how to find a parent View

    - by Oscar Peli
    Hi there, I need some help to find a View inside a hierarchy. Here is how I build up the View stack. Inside my first UITableViewController I push an UIViewController that contains an UITabBarController: [[self navigationController] pushViewController:itemVC animated:YES]; Inside the UITabBarController I add an UITableViewController: ISSTableViewController *graphics = (ISSTableViewController *)[tabBarController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:3]; Inside the didSelectRowAtIndexPath I present a Modal View Controller using a UINavigationController: GraficoViewController *graph = [[GraficoViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"GraficoViewController" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:graph]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; [navigationController release]; Now the (BIG) question is: I have to hide the NagivationBar of my first UITableViewController inside my last view. I tried with this: [[[[[self parentViewController] parentViewController] parentViewController] navigationController] setNavigationBarHidden:YES]; but it doesn't work. Can someone tell me how I can find my ancestor View??? Thanks.

  • Make an iPhone InfoButton light/dark based on color behind it

    - by Paula
    How do I detect what color is under the InfoButton... so I can change the button from DARK to LIGHT? I set my view's color... but how do I tell if it's "kind of light" or "kind of dark"? Besides... I can't change the info-button from light to dark anyway. (read only) Ugh. Shouldn't Apple have some kind of a simple "cmdButton.doThisExtremelyCommonThingForMe = TRUE" statement? InfoButtons are useless if you can't even see them. (Or how would I put an image behind the button to make it stand-out more?)

  • img_data_lock iphone - imageNamed vs imageWithContentsofFile

    - by franz
    I am noticing a surge in memory and the responsible caller as listed in instruments is img_data_lock and responsible library is coregraphics. I have been reading that the issue relates to cached vs not cached image load ? (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/316236/uiimage-imagenamed-vs-uiimage-imagewithdata) Currently my app loads a series of images via "imageNamed:" replacing the "imageNamed:" call with "imageWithContentsOfFile" seems to solve the issue. Has anybody any information about the img_data_lock caller ? Why would someone use "imageNamed" if it takes such a toll on memory ?

  • URLCache - iPhone SDK

    - by Kevin
    Hello everyone.. I need some help in using the NSURLCache to download a simple file. It would need to be saved in the Documents folder of the app. I have seen the URLCache example that apple presented, but I didn't find it useful since it was an image that was being shown. In addition there was some complex code on the modification date. I actually need something when the application opens it will begin the download process. Can someone guide me through just the download process of any file? Thanks Kevin

  • iPhone: Activate UISlider and set its value to the location of the current touch programatically

    - by carloe
    Is it possible to set an UISlider as first responder and set its current value to the location of the current touch programatically? The way my app is set up I have a UIView container that takes up the whole screen. Inside the container I have another UIView offscreen at the bottom edge (I'll call this bottomBar). Inside the bottomBar there is a UISlider element. Right now, when the user swipes along the bottom edge of the screen the bottomBar the slider it contains slide up. What I am trying to achieve is to activate the UISlider, and set the position of the slider (the value) to the position of the users touch. Is this possible? Could someone please point me in the right direction?

  • Push notification on iphone from my server.

    - by Nithin
    Hi, I am creating an application and i'm planning to use a notification service in it. I've a server and the application is calling this server via webservices and updating its data. But i now need to enable a notification service where the user may get the updates in my server as a notification. I am planning to use Urban Airship service, but not sure how to make it communicate with my server. Or is there any other easy way to enable notifications.
