  • Why reduce the size of the Java JVM thread stack?

    - by djangofan
I was reading an article on handling Out Of Memory error conditions in Java (and on JBoss platform) and I saw this suggestion to reduce the size of the threadstack. Can anyone explain how "reducing" the size of threadstack will help with a max memory error condition? http://community.jboss.org/wiki/OutOfMemoryExceptions

  • Good programming website like Stack Overflow?

    - by hhafez
What other good collaborative programming/software development/engineering websites do you know of? I'm not looking for language or platform specific websites. Nor am I looking for something similar to the format of Stack Overflow. My main criteria is that the community is knowledgeable, helpful active friendly I know the question is open ended/subjective but I'd like to know as many places where I can get the help of my peers. The accepted answer will contain links to your recommended sites have a short description be concise be highly voted by your peers

  • Using C# to make Application for Maemo (convert code to QT)

    - by blwthompson
Hi, I want to make an application for my phone (Nokia N900) It uses the Maemo Platform, which is a Linux variant. Most applications are made with either QT or Python, i only have experience in C#, and am wondering if it is at all possible to convert C# to QT, or would i have to use something like Mono or Vala to write the code in C# and create the applications for the N900?? Cheers, Brendan

  • packaging and distributing Python code as executables

    - by user248237
How can I compile my python module into an executable, and distribute it in a way that doesn't require the user to download all the external Python packages that the module I wrote uses? Aside from that, is there a general guy on packaging and distributing python code? i.e. going from a script/module to someone that's user-friendly and can be run, ideally cross-platform (at least between unix and mac). thanks.

  • IIS serving pages extremely slowly

    - by mos
TL;DR: IIS 7 on WS2008R2 serves pages really slowly; everyone assumes it's because it's IIS and we should have gone with an Apache solution on Linux. I have no idea where to start debugging the problem. I work in a nearly all-MS shop with a bunch of fellow programmers who think Linux is the One True Way. Management recently added a Windows machine with IIS to serve Target Process (third-party agile system), but the site runs extremely slowly. Everyone, to a man, assumes it's because it's on IIS, and if only management would grow a brain and get some Linux servers in here, we could really start cleaning things up! ...Right. Everyone "knows" IIS isn't fit to serve .txt files. ...Well, as the only non-Microsoft hater in the bunch, I am apparently the only one who thinks maybe the Linux guy who hated being told to set up the IIS server may have screwed things up. I'd like to go fix it, but I don't have any clue as to where to start as I am not a sys admin. Help?

  • Which CMS or blogging engine supports multiple sites ?

    - by Lamnk
Dont know if SO is the appropriate place to ask this question, but anyway ... I have some sites running Wordpress and maintaining/managing them is a pain. Is there any CMS or blogging platform out there that support multiple sites/blogs in one codebase ? I know there are some hacks for Wordpress but they are quite ugly and do not scale (i need 100-1000 blogs supported). WPMU AFAIK run with subdomains only. Thanks in advance.

According to the Qt documentation, I need to call: Set DXSDK_DIR=C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (February 2007) %DXSDK_DIR%\utilities\bin\dx_setenv.cmd C:\program files\Microsoft Platform SDK\setenv.cmd How do I do this in the Qt Creator IDE? Thanks!

  • Enterprise Native Mobile Application Development

    - by ahsteele
I tend to believe that developing mobile applications in an enterprise environment is best suited by developing intranet web applications. That said I have been asked to think about whether there are specific enterprise applications that could only be accomplished or would be more successful as native applications. I am curious as to what the Stack Overflow community thinks. Note: As an organization we primarily use BlackBerry devices but are other platform curious.

  • Mobile Java Applet?

    - by luvieere
Is there any mobile platform that allows me to run Java Applets? In absence of browser integration, at least Java SE capabilities. I've heard of a mobile device capable of running Windows XP - that would probably include support for Java SE and applets; does any one have any hands-on experience with such a device? How well does it perform in terms of Java programs execution?
