• Socket Communication in C#- IP-Port

  I am testing my socket programs at home, in local network. Server and client programs are running on seperate machines. Server program socket is binded as: serverSocket.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse("127.0.0.1"), 8999)); Client program (on the other computer) is connected as: clientSocket.Connect(IPAddress.Parse("192.168.2.3"), 8999); Why can Client not communicate with server? Do I need to make some firewall configuration or something like that? Or am I writing Server Ip incorrectly to the Client? (I got it from cmd-ipconfig of server)

• EPIPE blocks server

  I have written a single-threaded asynchronous server in C running on Linux: The socket is non-blocking and as for polling, I am using epoll. Benchmarks show that the server performs fine and according to Valgrind, there are no memory leaks or other problems. The only problem is that when a write() command is interrupted (because the client closed the connection), the server will encounter a SIGPIPE. I am doing the interrupted artifically by running the benchmarking utility "siege" with the parameter -b. It does lots of requests in a row which all work perfectly. Now I press CTRL-C and restart the "siege". Sometimes I am lucky and the server does not manage to send the full response because the client's fd is invalid. As expected errno is set to EPIPE. I handle this situation, execute close() on the fd and then free the memory related to the connection. Now the problem is that the server blocks and does not answer properly anymore. Then, it's added to the EPOLL queue. epoll_wait() signalises that the client sent data (EPOLLIN). The request is parsed and and a response is composed. Sending the headers works fine but when it comes to the body, write() results in an EPIPE. It is not a bug in "siege" because it blocks any incoming connections, no matter from which client.

Currently, I get the atom feed and then get as many emails as the feed has with the OpenPOP client (starting from the first). • Is it possible to run my Windows Form application in Windows CE platform?

  I am new in Windows CE development and never done it yet. Need some advise from the expert in here. In our current project, we are developing a client-server application. The client side is using a windows form application that are base on Windows XP OS while the server is a web base application. This question are related to the client application (Windows Form). This application are using Sql Server Express Edition for data storage. The data is stored in XML object format. It also can transfer a data from client to server via web service. It also interact with hardware such as Magnetic Stripe Reader, Contactless Smart Card Reader, and a thermal printer. Most of the communication between hardware device and systems are base on Serial Port. It is use standard app.config for the configuration and is a multi threaded application. There is a new requirement to use a Handheld device which is use a Windows CE platform. This handheld included the required equipment such as Contactless Smart Card Reader, Printer and Magnetic Stripe Reader. Instead of developing a new client application, is it possible to me to convert my current application that are base on Windows XP to Windows CE? If yes, how can I do that?   Hey everyone, I have a dillema where our client relations department has been brought in for advice on UI and I vehemently disagree with it...even though I don't consider myself a designer at all. While I have been vocal about my disagreement about it, I've been asked to point to design standards to prove that what I'm saying is correct and that the guys in Client Relations are flat out wrong. A mockup is below, I'm trying to argue that the icons of the airplane, boat, and couch (ya, I didn't choose those either) belong in the header of the page (same area as the logo) and not in the content area of the page. • ViewModel updates after Model server roundtrip

  I have stateless services and anemic domain objects on server side. Model between server and client is POCO DTO. The client should become MVVM. The model could be graph of about 100 instances of 20 different classes. The client editor contains diverse tab-pages all of them live-connected to model/viewmodel. My problem is how to propagate changes after server round-trip nice way. It's quite easy to propagate changes from ViewModel to DTO. For way back it would be possible to throw away old DTO and replace it whole with new one, but it will cause lot of redrawing for lists/DataTemplates. I could gather the server side changes and transmit them to client side. But the names of fields changed would be domain/DTO specific, not ViewModel specific. And the mapping seems nontrivial to me. If I should do it imperative way after round-trip, it would break SOC/modularity of viewModels. I'm thinking about some kind of mapping rule engine, something like automappper or emit mapper. But it solves just very plain use-cases. I don't see how it would map/propagate/convert adding items to list or removal. How to identify instances in collections so it could merge values to existing instances. As well it should propagate validation/error info. Maybe I should implement INotifyPropertyChanged on DTO and try to replay server side events on it ? And then bind ViewModel to it ? Would binding solve the problems with collection merges nice way ? Is EventAgregator from PRISM useful for that ? Is there any event record-replay component ? Is there better client side pattern for architecture with server side logic ?

• Why aren't google api clients built on top of Apache's Abdera project ?

  Hey, Could anybody please explain that to me? As far as I can see, the developers of java's google api client library are reinventing the wheel. It's like writing a new JDK for a Java project. I'm aware of the fact that google data protocol is a little specific re atom publishing, but if one needs to use some of the fancy extensions and features that Apache Abdera project offers for this protocol, it is better not to use google api client library and implement the client from scratch with Abdera... And I'm sure that in a lot of cases its features such as Abdera's JCR adapter would become very handy for google docs, google translator toolkit and others. Now it's great that there is a google api client library to be used for google docs, but what am I going to do with the documents? I believe that in more than a half cases there is also a repository or database on the other side. And in that case, abdera is needed, not the simple google api clients that are only marshalling/unmarshalling the feeds... In fact, there is something to persist in all of the google APIs. It would make sense, if google decided to invest the effort into Abdera enhancement... This doesn't... Also for the question to be more specific: How are you developing google api clients, that need entry persistence (JCR for instance) ? What would be the best way to integrate a google api client library with Apache Abdera ?

Now I want this process to be done using a progress bar (so when the download progress is at 50% the progress bar is half-way through).   I am having a heck of a time returning an ArrayList of objects that implement IsSerializable via RPC. The IsSerializable pojo contains one variable, a String, and has a 0 parameter constructor. I have removed the .gwt.rpc file from my war and still I get: com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException: Type 'com.test.myApp.client.model.Test' was not included in the set of types which can be serialized by this SerializationPolicy or its Class object could not be loaded. For security purposes, this type will not be serialized.: instance = com.test.myApp.client.model.Test@17a9692 at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serialize(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:610) I am using GWT 2.0.2 with jdk 1.6.0_18. Any ideas on what might be going on or what I am doing wrong? Here is the code for the Test class and the remote method is returning ArrayList. Could there be a queue involved here? Shouldn't this be asynchronous?

Normal unsecure requests work fine and I can upgrade one time tokens to session tokens without any hassle. • BindException/Too many file open while using HttpClient under load

  I have got 1000 dedicated Java threads where each thread polls a corresponding url every one second. public class Poller { public static Node poll(Node node) { GetMethod method = null; try { HttpClient client = new HttpClient(new SimpleHttpConnectionManager(true)); ...... } catch (IOException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } finally { method.releaseConnection(); } } } The threads are run every one second: for (int i=0; i <1000; i++) { MyThread thread = threads.get(i) // threads is a static field if(thread.isAlive()) { // If the previous thread is still running, let it run. } else { thread.start(); } } The problem is if I run the job every one second I get random exceptions like these: java.net.BindException: Address already in use INFO httpclient.HttpMethodDirector: I/O exception (java.net.BindException) caught when processing request: Address already in use INFO httpclient.HttpMethodDirector: Retrying request But if I run the job every 2 seconds or more, everything runs fine. I even tried shutting down the instance of SimpleHttpConnectionManager() using shutDown() with no effect. If I do netstat, I see thousands of TCP connections in TIME_WAIT state, which means they are have been closed and are clearing up. So to limit the no of connections, I tried using a single instance of HttpClient and use it like this: public class MyHttpClientFactory { private static MyHttpClientFactory instance = new HttpClientFactory(); private MultiThreadedHttpConnectionManager connectionManager; private HttpClient client; private HttpClientFactory() { init(); } public static HttpClientFactory getInstance() { return instance; } public void init() { connectionManager = new MultiThreadedHttpConnectionManager(); HttpConnectionManagerParams managerParams = new HttpConnectionManagerParams(); managerParams.setMaxTotalConnections(1000); connectionManager.setParams(managerParams); client = new HttpClient(connectionManager); } public HttpClient getHttpClient() { if (client != null) { return client; } else { init(); return client; } } } However after running for exactly 2 hours, it starts throwing 'too many open files' and eventually cannot do anything at all. ERROR java.net.SocketException: Too many open files INFO httpclient.HttpMethodDirector: I/O exception (java.net.SocketException) caught when processing request: Too many open files INFO httpclient.HttpMethodDirector: Retrying request I should be able to increase the no of connections allowed and make it work, but I would just be prolonging the evil. Any idea what is the best practise to use HttpClient in a situation like above? Btw, I am still on HttpClient3.1.

The application has pagination to display only 25 profiles at a time. My requirement is the profileDataManager should be instantiated only once for respective client. On subsequent calls, it should use the existing object. For this i need the one service object should be created for user session.If a client sends another request, the service object created in previous call should be returned. On client side i am using Flex. In CXF webserice, my requirement is fulfilled with an annotation '@HttpSessionScope'. Is there away that i can get the abovementioned behavior in Axis? I have given the following trials. but no success added and modified the java client stub.setMaintainSession(true); The above didn't work for me.

• What ports does Advantage Database Server need?

  I have an application which uses ADS and I am attempting to deploy it in a Windows network environment with a rather restrictive firewall. I am having a problem configuring firewall ports appropriately. ADS lives on \server, and it's listening on port 1234. When \client tries to connect to \server\tables, I get Error 6420 (Discovery process failed). When \client tries to connect to \server:1234\tables, I get error 6097, bad IP address specified in the connection path. \server is pingable from \client, and I can telnet to \server:1234. If I try to connect from a client machine inside the firewall, either connection path works fine. It seems there must be something else I need to open in the firewall. Any ideas? Thanks, Aaron.

• Problems with GData Request Token

  We have successfully used GData libraries to access a user's Google Docs. But we encountered problems when many users log in to our site and authorize our web app at the same time or successively. Here's what happens: First user successful logs in, authorizes our web app via OAuth and is able to add rubric (or google spreadsheet). Second user, immediately after first user adds a rubric, successfully logs in then webapp fails on authorize (Token not given. I tried to log it.) Third user fails on login. Fourth user was able to log in, authorize via OAuth, and create rubrics successfully. Fifth user was able to log in but like the second user, gets an invalid token on authorize (Token not given.) And the list goes on. Results were unpredicatable. • How to setup custom DNS with Azure Websites Preview?

  I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go? Here's the error I get when I try adding the DNS entry to Azure (I'm in reserved mode, reemdairy is the name of the website): There was an error processing your request. • Now with GWT2, what are the advantages over wicket and likewise?

  Apart from the argument of wicket's simplicity (that is, wicket is a simpler system IMHO) and GWT's responsiveness in the client (GWT's client side state and javascript - potentially complex client side code) and GWT's greater potential for scaling, what is the argument for using GWT over wicket? Personally I've done a lot of wicket development, but have only had a quick look at GWT a long time ago.
