• Pip installs on Archlinux fails to build egg

• python mysqldb - mysql server gone away - can't reconnect

  When attempting to import a bunch of data into mysql tables using python and mysqldb, I run into the following error '2006 - mySQL Server has gone away', and then I am unable to reconnect again within the script. I am iniitially re-using a connection object across transactions ( delineated by conn.commit() ), then when I first encounter this exception, if I create a new connection by calling MySQLdb.connect(), this new connection also fails with the same exception. This error does not occur immediately, I can pump a fair amount of data into the db, but then faithfully occurs after I have inserted a couple thousand records, so roughly once the db has committed a certain transaction volume, it always falls over like this. If I rerun the script, WITHOUT restarting the db server. then it resumes where it left off, pumps in some data, then falls over again. Before recommendations to change time-out timings, does anyone know why I am not able to establish a new connection after the initial failure ? - Even if I try a couple of times waiting a couple of seconds between each. (btw, I'm running Windows 7, mysql server 5.1.48, mysqldb 1.2.3.gamma.1, python 2.6)

  I have 2008 r2 64bit server that is stuck on installing updates. It shows message "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing 57 of 61.." This message is shown for 3 hours now. • Allowing non-admin users to unstick the print spooler

  I currently have an issue where the print que is getting stuck on a central print server (windows server 2008). Using the "Clear all documents" function does not clear it and gets stuck too. I need non-admin users to be able to clear the print cue from there work stations. I have tried using the following winforms program which I created and allows a user to stop the print spooler, delete printer files in the "C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder" and then start the print spooler but this functionality requires the program to be runs as an administrator, how can I allow my normal users to execute this program without giving them admin privileges? Or is there another way I can allow normal user to clear the print que on the server?   I have a small ASP.NET test script that opens a connection to a SQL Server database on another machine in the domain. It isn't working in all cases. Setup: IIS 7.5 under W2K8R2 trying to connect to a remote SQL Server 2008 R2 instance. All machines are in the same domain. Using the ApplicationPoolIdentity for the web site it fails to connect to the SQL Server with the following: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. However if I switch the Process Model Identity to NETWORK SERVICE or my domain account the database connection is successful. I've granted the \$ access in SQL Server. I am not doing any sort of authentication on the web site, it is just a simple script to open a connection to a database to make sure it works. I have Anonymous Authentication enabled and set to use the Application pool identity. How do I make this work? Why is the ApplicationPoolIdentity trying to use ANONYMOUS LOGON? Better yet, how do I make it stop using the Anonymous logon?

  Small business server 2011 standard - applications randomly closing for remote desktop users I have an issue where when you are connected through remote desktop (doesn't matter whether you have administrative rights or not). Most of the time it works OK and the restart count is anything up to 4. In this case the Trunk log confirms that the Restart Count is 5 and so is considered to be exceeded. Presumably, this triggers the termination of the other services and Trunk is actually doing its job.So, coould this just be a timing issue and we need to increase the tolerance level (i.e restart count) or do we need to address the 0xa08990002 error in vmd?

• iTunes Home Sharing only works one way between 2 Windows XP PC's on the same LAN

  Both PC's have the latest iTunes installed. PC (A) can "see" that there is a shared library "B library" but attempts to connect to it return this error message: The shared library "{Username}'s Library" is not responding (-3259) Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689. however the reverse works fine. e.g. PC (B) can "see" shared library "A library" and can access all content. Notes: Both PC's have Home Sharing enabled (turned off/on several times to verify). Both PC's have Windows Firewall turned on, but in the exceptions tab, iTunes is allowed, and Port 3689 is also added as a firewall exception (just in case) Both iTunes accounts have been "authorized" on both PC's Both PC's connect via LAN via D-Link DIR-615 router. In the advanced application rules, iTunes has also been added to allow traffic on port 3689 un-hindered. Is there any other magical setting/configuration option that I should be aware of and set in order to get this to work? I could care less about sharing apps etc. I just want the music sharing to work. Update: Solved! It turns out on PC (B) there were multiple accounts set up. 1 of the accounts had the checkbox checked under the Windows firewall "On" option which states "No exceptions" thus even though it was added to the exception list on the main user account, this other account was blocking access.

  I have a machine running a java app talking to a mysql instance running on the same instance. the app uses jdbc4 drivers from mysql. I keep getting com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException at random times. Here is the whole message. Could not open JDBC Connection for transaction; nested exception is com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: The last packet successfully received from the server was25899 milliseconds ago.The last packet sent successfully to the server was 25899 milliseconds ago, which is longer than the server configured value of 'wait_timeout'. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'autoReconnect=true' to avoid this problem. For mysql, the value of global 'wait_timeout' and 'interactive_timeout' is set to 3600 seconds and 'connect_timeout' is set to 60 secs. the wait timeout value is much higher than the 26 secs(25899 msecs). mentioned in the exception trace. However I am not completely sure that I have configured everything right and do not have the experience to check so I would be very grateful for some advice or just verification that all seems right so far. • Windows Small Business System 2003. SQL timeout in Server Performance Report

  I'm the volunteer IT admin at a small school. We have SBS 2003 with about ten desktops. The server performance report is emailed to me daily. It is setup with a wizard in the Monitoring and Performance part of the "Server Management" console. It often fails with a "The page cannot be displayed" error. The event log shows Event Type: Error Event Source: ServerStatusReports Event Category: None Event ID: 1 Date: 1/16/2011 Time: 6:03:14 AM User: N/A Computer: ALPHA Description: Server Status Report: URL: http://localhost/monitoring/perf.aspx?reportMode=1&allHours=1 Error Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It seems to be related to WSUS. When it happens, I run the Update Services "Server Cleanup Wizard". That takes a long time to run. If I haven't run it for a while it can take 10 hours. I also run the WsusDBMaintenance.sql script (from TechNet I think) which reindexes the database etc. Those two things seem to get it working again for a while. Recently the "while" has become a couple of weeks. My searching online has revealed lots of people having this problem but no real solution. Does anyone have any good ideas about this? I have to wonder if something in the WSUS SQL schema is not indexed properly. The time that the server cleanup wizard takes seems ridiculous. Thanks

• Utilu IE Collection IE6 crashes under Windows 7

  I've installed Utilu IE Collection under Windows 7 64-bit, but am unable to successfully run IE6 (specifically, "Internet Explorer 6.0 (6.00.2900.2180)"). I haven't tried other versions of IE from the package, so their behavior is unknown. It starts up fine, but the address bar isn't shown. (Attempted to post image, but I'm a newbie on SU and it wouldn't let me. Can be found here.) View-Toolbars shows 'Address Bar' already selected. • Constant crashes in windows 7 64bit when playing games

  I've tried everything I can possibly think of in trying to fix this problem and I'm totally out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated: The problem: whenever I fire up a game, it works for a short while with no problems and then it would crash. Either its a hard crash, forcing me to reboot, or windows would report that the display driver has stopped working and recovered. Here is a list of things I've already tried: Drivers - tried the latest drivers (catalyst 9.12) as well as the stock drivers that came with the video card. Also have the latest BIOS/chipset Memtest - Ran Memtest86+ overnight, had no problems, the windows diagnostic tool also does not find any problems. Overheating - Video card/cpu temperatures are well below peak (42 and 31 Celsius receptively) PSU Voltage - CPUID shows that the voltage levels are all above what they should be. The PSU itself is only roughly 16 months old and is a good model. HDD - No errors when checked GPU - Brand new (replaced previous card since I thought it was the problem, apparently not) Overclocking - Everything is at stock levels, memory voltage is set to manufacturer's standard Specs: Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 ghz OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Memory: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB DDR2 GPU: Sapphire HD 5850 1GB PSU: SeaSonic M12 600W ATX12V DirectX: DX11 Event Viewer after a crash always has these logged: A fatal hardware error has occurred. • A class meant for an alfresco behavior and its bean, how do they work and how are they deployed trough eclipse

  (This is a partial repost of a question asked 10 days ago because only 1 part was answered(not included), I've rewritten it into a way better question and added 3 more tags) where do I put the DeleteAsset.class or why isn't it being found? I've put the compiled class from the bin of the workspace of eclipse into alfresco-4.2.c/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/com/openerp/behavior/ and right now it's giving me Error loading class [com.openerp.behavior.DeleteAsset] for bean with name 'deletionBehavior' defined in URL [file:/home/openerp/alfresco-4.2.c/tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension/cust??om-web-context.xml]: problem with class file or dependent class; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/openerp/behavior/DeleteAsset (wrong name: DeleteAsset) when I put it in there.   I want to move to the new XCode 3.2.3 GM Seed build for development, but when I bring up my project I get 'base sdk missing' because my project is set to use iPhone SDK 3.0. If I change 'base SDK' to iPhone 3.2 or 4.0 and then compile I get a lot of errors that I don't understand. I dumped a few of them below. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? Also, can someone confirm that if I choose 'base sdk' of iPhone 3.2 or 4.0 that I can still choose 'target device' of iPhone 3.0 and not force my customers to install the new SDK.   I'm using JDBC to connect my program to a MySQL database. I already put the port number and yes, my database have permission to access. • Creating a dynamic proxy generator – Part 1 – Creating the Assembly builder, Module builder and cach

  I’ve recently started a project with a few mates to learn the ins and outs of Dependency Injection, AOP and a number of other pretty crucial patterns of development as we’ve all been using these patterns for a while but have relied totally on third part solutions to do the magic. We thought it would be interesting to really get into the details by rolling our own IoC container and hopefully learn a lot on the way, and you never know, we might even create an excellent framework. The open source project is called Rapid IoC and is hosted at http://rapidioc.codeplex.com/ One of the most interesting tasks for me is creating the dynamic proxy generator for enabling Aspect Orientated Programming (AOP). In this series of articles, I’m going to track each step I take for creating the dynamic proxy generator and I’ll try my best to explain what everything means - mainly as I’ll be using Reflection.Emit to emit a fair amount of intermediate language code (IL) to create the proxy types at runtime which can be a little taxing to read. It’s worth noting that building the proxy is without a doubt going to be slightly painful so I imagine there will be plenty of areas I’ll need to change along the way. Anyway lets get started…   Part 1 - Creating the Assembly builder, Module builder and caching mechanism Part 1 is going to be a really nice simple start, I’m just going to start by creating the assembly, module and type caches. The reason we need to create caches for the assembly, module and types is simply to save the overhead of recreating proxy types that have already been generated, this will be one of the important steps to ensure that the framework is fast… kind of important as we’re calling the IoC container ‘Rapid’ – will be a little bit embarrassing if we manage to create the slowest framework. The Assembly builder The assembly builder is what is used to create an assembly at runtime, we’re going to have two overloads, one will be for the actual use of the proxy generator, the other will be mainly for testing purposes as it will also save the assembly so we can use Reflector to examine the code that has been created. An AssemblyBuilder is then constructed with the current AppDomain and depending on the overload used, it is either just run in the current context or it is set up ready for saving. I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about the type of collection I should use to store the types and have finally decided that for the time being I’m going to use a generic dictionary. This may change when I can actually performance test the proxy generator but the time being I think it makes good sense in theory, mainly as it pretty much maintains it’s performance with varying numbers of items – almost constant (0)1. Plus I won’t ever need to loop through the items which is not the dictionaries strong point. Hopefully they should be clear enough, the Get is a TryGet as I do not want the dictionary to throw an exception if a proxy doesn’t exist within the cache. Other than that I’ve decided to create a key using the SHA1CryptoServiceProvider, this may change but my initial though is the SHA1 algorithm is pretty fast to put together using the provider and it is also very unlikely to have any hashing collisions. (there are some maths behind how unlikely this is – here’s the wiki if you’re interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA_hash_functions)   Anyway, that’s the end of part 1 – although I haven’t started any of the fun stuff (by fun I mean hairpulling, teeth grating Relfection.Emit style fun), I’ve got the basis of the DynamicProxy in place so all we have to worry about now is creating the types, interceptor classes, method invocation information classes and finally a really nice fluent interface that will abstract all of the hard-core craziness away and leave us with a lightning fast, easy to use AOP framework. • Customize the SimpleMembership in ASP.NET MVC 4.0

  As we know, .NET 4.5 have come up to us, and come along with a lot of new interesting features as well. Visual Studio 2012 was also introduced some days ago. They made us feel very happy with cool improvement along with us. Performance when loading code editor is very good at the moment (immediate after click on the solution). I explore some of cool features at these days. Some of them like Json.NET integrated in ASP.NET MVC 4.0, improvement on asynchronous action, new lightweight theme on Visual Studio, supporting very good on mobile development, improvement on authentication… I reviewed them, and found out that in this version of .NET Microsoft was not only developed new feature that suggest from community but also focused on improvement performance of existing features or components. Besides that, they also opened source more projects, like Entity Framework, Reactive Extensions, ASP.NET Web Stack… At the moment, I feel Microsoft want to open source more and more their projects. Today, I am going to dive in deep on new SimpleMembership model. It is really good because in this security model, Microsoft actually focus on development needs. As we know, in the past, they introduce some of provider supplied for coding security like MembershipProvider, RoleProvider… I don’t need to talk but everyone that have ever used it know that they were actually hard to use, and not easy to maintain and unit testing. Why? Because every time you inherit it, you need to override all methods inside it. Some people try to abstract it by introduce more method with virtual keyword, and try to implement basic behavior, so in the subclass we only need to override the method that need for their business. But to me, it’s only the way to work around. ASP.NET team and Web Matrix knew about it, so they built the new features based on existing components on .NET framework. And one of component that comes to us is SimpleMembership and SimpleRole. They implemented the Façade pattern on the top of those, and called it is WebSecurity. In the web, we can call WebSecurity anywhere we want, and make a call to inside wrapper of it. I read a lot of them on web blog, on technical news, on MSDN as well. Matthew Osborn had an excellent article about it at his blog. Jon Galloway had an article like this at here. He analyzed why old membership provider not fixed well to ASP.NET MVC and how to get over it. Those are very good to me. It introduced to me about how to doing SimpleMembership on it, how to doing it on new ASP.NET MVC web application. But one thing, those didn’t tell me was how to doing it on existing security model (that mean we already had Users and Roles on legacy system, and how we can integrate it to this system), that’s a reason I will introduce it today. I have spent couples of hours to see what’s inside this, and try to make one example to clarify my concern. And it’s lucky that I can make it working well.The first thing, we need to create new ASP.NET MVC application on Visual Studio 2012. We need to choose Internet type for this web application. ASP.NET MVC actually creates all needs components for the basic membership and basic role. The cool feature is DoNetOpenAuth come along with it that means we can log-in using facebook, twitter or Windows Live if you want. But it’s only for LocalDb, so we need to change it to fix with existing database model on SQL Server. The next step we have to make SimpleMembership can understand which database we use and show it which column need to point to for the ID and UserName. I really like this feature because SimpleMembership on need to know about the ID and UserName, and they don’t care about rest of it. • Loosely coupled .NET Cache Provider using Dependency Injection

  I have recently been reading the excellent book “Dependency Injection in .NET”, written by Mark Seemann. I do not generally buy software development related books, as I never seem to have the time to read them, but I have found the time to read Mark’s book, and it was time well spent I think. Reading the ideas around Dependency Injection made me realise that the Cache Provider code I wrote about earlier (see http://geekswithblogs.net/Rhames/archive/2011/01/10/using-the-asp.net-cache-to-cache-data-in-a-model.aspx) could be refactored to use Dependency Injection, which should produce cleaner code. The goals are to: Separate the cache provider implementation (using the ASP.NET data cache) from the consumers (loose coupling). This will also mean that the dependency on System.Web for the cache provider does not ripple down into the layers where it is being consumed (such as the domain layer). Provide a decorator pattern to allow a consumer of the cache provider to be implemented separately from the base consumer (i.e. if we have a base repository, we can decorate this with a caching version). Although I used the term repository, in reality the cache consumer could be just about anything. Use constructor injection to provide the Dependency Injection, with a suitable DI container (I use Castle Windsor). Consuming a Repository I have an existing couple of repository interfaces defined in my domain layer: IRepository.cs 1: using System; 2: using System.Collections.Generic; 3:   4: using CacheDiSample.Domain.Model; 5:   6: namespace CacheDiSample.Domain.Repositories 7: { 8: public interface IRepository<T> 9: where T : EntityBase 10: { 11: T GetById(int id); 12: IList<T> GetAll(); 13: } 14: }   IBlogRepository.cs 1: using System; 2: using CacheDiSample.Domain.Model; 3:   4: namespace CacheDiSample.Domain.Repositories 5: { 6: public interface IBlogRepository : IRepository<Blog> 7: { 8: Blog GetByName(string name); 9: } 10: }   These two repositories are implemented in the DataAccess layer, using Entity Framework to retrieve data (this is not important though). One important point is that in the BaseRepository implementation of IRepository, the methods are virtual. This will allow the decorator to override them. It also means that my controllers do not have any knowledge of the caching taking place, as the DI container will simply inject the decorator instead of the root implementation of the repository. The first step is to implement a BlogRepository decorator, with the caching logic in it. Note that this can reside in the domain layer, as it does not require any knowledge of the data access methods. This will make the cache provider functionality available to the repository. I inject the parent IBlogRepository implementation (which has the actual data access code), via the constructor. This will allow the methods implemented in the parent to be called if nothing is found in the cache. I override each of the methods implemented in the repository, including those implemented in the generic BaseRepository. Each override of these methods follows the same pattern. It makes a call to the CacheProvider.Fetch method, and passes in the parentBlogRepository implementation of the method as the retrieval method, to be used if nothing is present in the cache. Configuring the Caching Repository in the DI Container The final piece of the jigsaw is to tell Castle Windsor to use the BlogRepositoryWithCaching implementation of IBlogRepository, but to inject the actual Data Access implementation into this decorator. Now if the consumer of the repository makes a call to the repositories method, it will be routed via the caching mechanism. You can test this by stepping through the code, and seeing that the DataAccess.BlogRepository code is only called if there is no data in the cache, or this has expired. The next step is to add the SQL Cache Dependency support into this pattern, this will be a future post.

I know they exist (I had read of them in a tech magazine), but I can't seem to find the right search term for google to throw me a correct link.
